Finger... Your words are my own. I am glad you've said this. I wish you'd post more.

Although i find it Ironic that your link at the bottom is a Sony site.

NYTimes.com is a very liberal news site, true, but here is some food for thought:

syria had a military 'peace keeping' presence in the lebanon until fairly recently. they were reluctant to leave, but the fact that the lebanon had attained a reasonable degree of stability ended their mandate to be there.
before they left, however, there were several assassinations of the leading political opposition, creating a power vacuum that was initially filled by the remaining pro-syrian elements. this was all well documented at the time.

now, by orchestrating the attacks through hezbollah, and drawing the expected response from israel; destabalizing the infrastructure, killing civillians, ground invasion etc, syria will soon enough reason to re-enter the lebanon.

yes, israel have acted barbarically, but everyone knows that this is the expected response from them. syria are using it to their own political ends, in order to re-occupy the lebanon. whether or not this meddeling leads to damascus (capial of syria, btw) being nuked, as i stated in a previous post, time will tell, but it's the only city to have a 'smashed to dust' prophesy made against it in the bible, that has never in it's history actually received such a blow. in the olden days, a roman army could do this to a city quite quickly (good engineers the romans) , but what would it take today?

i'll keep watching the news, even if it does make me cry.

I blame the allied powers, and the Europian powers before them for cutting up the region with no care for political, religious, or social boundries. The middle east was a far advanced power not so long ago (reletivly speaking) and now it is seen as a sand pit of raticals.

I also strongly agree Finger. I feel that the last generation who will ever have any hope of free will (so to speak) was born before 1989. There are many exeptions to this, but the 90's destroyed most kids. America needs another 60's and fast, its sad though that the music is controled, and the flow of ideas is being killed off by an archaic political machine that is making liberal thinking a horrible thing. The statusquoe is going to ruin the world and most people are all too happy to do that.

DrGlass, I'm surprised you would say such things. It's the overly liberal media that is the main cause of these stupid children we see. No one could ever claim that Conservative Baby-Boomers are to blame for things like MTV and Saturday Night Live. It may seem silly at first, but if you think about it, these are the things children are doing instead of thier studies, these are the things that enable this horrible stupididty that has gone as far as being a worldwide stereotype!

The liberal media and the artists therein are constantly pushing the envelope to see just how far they can go outside the established "box." But just because things are established doesnt mean they are bad. Thinking outside the box is good to a certain extent, but a litle outside that is a ledge, and we're soon to be pushed off it!

Think of how many kids you knew in gradeschool who sat there in class, not listening, with thier shirts pulled over thier heads like "The great Cornholio."

Now think of how many kids who were trading school-work for imitations of republican senators.

All this "Archaic Machine" stuff is bull-crap

I probably have asked this before, but, what does conservative and Liberal in USA-english means? I 'm rather confused now.

And yes, most people seem to follow blindly what is aired on television, bloody scary. Then again, media is power and control. Just try to 'brainwash' people at school/work. Really interesting to try.

Yes Finger, we fight for the $$$ and power. Need Democracy? We've got bombs to bring it about.

I'm waiting to see if this stuff in Lebanon takes a week or two and then fades out of the media, or if something big happens and more nations become involved. Didn't Somalia just declare war on Ethiopia too? Funny how all but two or three UN nations are for some sort of more peaceful end to this Lebanon conflict. Go figure the US supports Israel. Bullies stick together it seems. I know I live in the US, but all this war crap doesn't seem to be getting us anywhere but in body bags and national debt. Wish the middle east could find a better way to end these conflicts, but I guess bombing whole countries for a single group that lives there is the popular thing to do.

You know more then I and I live in isreal, I just, strangly enough, don't care about the news. I and my family seem to have no love for our country, only distaste.
I agree with Gwil about isreal's inhuman retalitory acts. Bomb a building that might be a hideout to some body they want to kill, doesn't matter if inocent people will die in the explosion.
About that flag I really don't know what to say. Isreal has many racists in it, in fact most of the people I met are racist. Some say the 'jewish' brain is supirior to others, some think arabs spawn like mice and are equel to dust, there is even lots of hate between jews themselfs based on racisim, but I wont fill these forums with all the crap the people think.

I won't pretend to know anything near enough to analyze this conflic.

All I can say is that if you go back in history long enough you can blame pretty much everyone for the political wrong-doings of his forefathers (or much more of his forefther's rulers).

Brain-washed peoples are used as cannon fodder because of the ill-fated vision of pride and revenge or corrupt thoughts of a few, power-hungry individuals. Blaming history is only used as a propaganda tool. With enough propaganda even a democracy is nothing but cynicism. From a humane standpoint wars have never been started for the right reason. And it's impossible to tell who started.

That's like jailing me because my dad shot a cop.

So... you can't blame people for what their predecessors do. That would be stupid.

And that's exactly what this war is all about. Israel was founded almost 2 generations ago.

Their offense now is just a piece in a much larger puzzle. You can't punish the people that live there now. Or make the whole state go away.

I just finished reading todays newspaper. Apparently Israel launched an
attack against UN observation post last night killing four United
Nations' observers, including one from my country. I'll try to find
some net sources for this so you can read the whole thing...

Edit: Read the whole thing here.

I don't think Israel is dumb enough to purposely draw even more animosity from the UN.

Well, as it happens the UN post apparently called the Israelis ten
times to try and halt the shelling, only to be met by an airstrike
which completely obliterated the observation post. It wouldn't be the
first time these white outposts have been targeted deliberately in
conflict - look at the Srebrenica massacre.

Also, I notice that Israels other misdemeanour has gone unnoticed in
this discussion. What was it? Oh, the air strike on 2 Red Cross
ambulances which are always clearly marked as being humanitarian
vehicles.

World Powers Fail to Agree on Plan to End Fighting, Underscoring U.S. Influence on Israel

While they agreed on the need for aid and for an international force in southern Lebanon, the U.S. kept the group from demanding an immediate cease-fire.

Yep, we surely are dumb! And that example you just gave isn't the only reason.
The weird thing is that I never saw it on the news, or heard my mother speak of it, she is more intrested then I...
Maybe it's because I missed it, or maybe it's another propoganda.

The attack on UN troups marks the first Austrian casulty in the conflict. And we're the most neutral country in the world next to Switzerland.

If you don't know anything about Hezbollah and what's going on right now in Lebanon, this is a pretty good way to get caught up (as long as you don't mind reading the NYTimes, which I know some of you do  ).
