So when I first found this place nine weeks ago I thought it was a Half-Life website with the Half-Life 2 bit added on. But I notice that people submit maps for Quake and s**t plus I've seen these mysterious references like "Radiant editor" so naturally I'm starting to wonder if any of you guys are actually H-L 2 gamers or some mysterious mutants that come out at night. Btw, sorry for my weird posts I blame it on this new found excuse called "Asperger Syndrome". When I mention those words on the internet people immediately seem to give me extra leeway and be all sympathetic :heee:

I always seem to get the same treatment on all forums I visit and post in. Strange...

oh and by they way, you don't have to be a mapper to find a home here, i was a member for over a year before i even started mapping, you just have to earn your respect in other ways

You know, come to think of it, I think he meant something else with that "Why should you care if you have respect...", more like "If all members are treated with equal respect, including me, why should you care how annoying I am?".

A fair definition but, I respect a goodly portion of the people here, and I make fun of them constantly.
Part of respect is the ability to do so with a high level of impunity. With that level of respect one can get away with being funny. Now, I don't get crude and talk about sensitive things but with a bit of tact, you can make fun indefinitely.

You mean with me trying to avoid doing so with Flynn?
You see though, the general flaw in that is that one assumes that you had respect for them to lose. True respect isn't something that comes with the package. I mean, a new member shows up and you automatically delegate some to them?? They arrived with the rudimentary kinds of course. No ones gonna use racial slurs or something similar to them upon arrival but real respect, the kind thats earned doesn't arrive with a new member. At least not very often. I respected Gustavo before he arrived, but thats because we were in communication since just about his first release.
Anyway, I know what you meant, sorta. However, I am not losing any respect for Aaron just because of one post. Flynn ruined several before I said very much. Aaron, it seems doesn't use English as a first language so I allow him some leeway. Even if English is his first, he doesn't use it very well yet. But the point is, he hasn't ruined enough threads to get upset over.
Make sense?

I don't think English is a second language to Aaron, I think he's just very young
and does not yet understand forum etiquete. The short attention span in the posts gave it away. That is forgiveable to an extent. He will learn one day like the rest of us did.
"Respect is earned, not given" I've always been told. I don't expect it from people. I can try my best, but there is a certain point if you try too hard its desperation, life is too short to try and make everyone happy.
