So when I first found this place nine weeks ago I thought it was a Half-Life website with the Half-Life 2 bit added on. But I notice that people submit maps for Quake and s**t plus I've seen these mysterious references like "Radiant editor" so naturally I'm starting to wonder if any of you guys are actually H-L 2 gamers or some mysterious mutants that come out at night. Btw, sorry for my weird posts I blame it on this new found excuse called "Asperger Syndrome". When I mention those words on the internet people immediately seem to give me extra leeway and be all sympathetic :heee:

Snarkpit is a progressive website. As such we are well above the curve. You won't receive anything here, you do not aptly deserve.

We used most of your alloted sympathy, shortly after you joined. You are fresh out of it, until you have earned a bit more.

Never fear though. We will treat you as you deserve.

Asperger Syndrome, eh?
Good excuse, but I wouldn't be sympathetic to someone with it, if anything, I'd be jealous.

Is this a Half-Life website?
Erm, actually...no. It's a mapping site. Half life just happens to be the most popular game to map for so that's why you get to see more resources for it than for any other game.

Oh and are you by chance biased towards the classics, like quake? :leper:

Asperger Syndrome, actually, that's a good excuse, if it's not just some self-diagnosed s**t.

Anyway, the Snarkpit is a mapping website. It was most popular among HL1 mappers when it started, but of course it's mainly about HL2 and its mods today (with an unusual focus on HL2DM). You can find maps for a few other games, but those never got as popular here.
Why snark works.

Respect. I have heard that word alot lately. I thought snarkpit is a place where mappers, noob and expert can come together and talk about half-life and there maps and share maps and other half-life files.

But there are people talking about respect and shivers. Man who cares. Why should you care if you have respect...

You know, come to think of it, I think he meant something else with that "Why should you care if you have respect...", more like "If all members are treated with equal respect, including me, why should you care how annoying I am?".

A fair definition but, I respect a goodly portion of the people here, and I make fun of them constantly.

Part of respect is the ability to do so with a high level of impunity. With that level of respect one can get away with being funny. Now, I don't get crude and talk about sensitive things but with a bit of tact, you can make fun indefinitely.

Bah, you know what I meant, Orph. I just meant that disrespecting respect on a non-funny level can backfire. I'm loosing my respect towards aaron_da_killa, for example. I'm more and more feeling the urge to get cynical on a personal level and that's something I usually try to avoid.
Why snark works.

You mean with me trying to avoid doing so with Flynn?

You see though, the general flaw in that is that one assumes that you had respect for them to lose. True respect isn't something that comes with the package. I mean, a new member shows up and you automatically delegate some to them?? They arrived with the rudimentary kinds of course. No ones gonna use racial slurs or something similar to them upon arrival but real respect, the kind thats earned doesn't arrive with a new member. At least not very often. I respected Gustavo before he arrived, but thats because we were in communication since just about his first release.

Anyway, I know what you meant, sorta. However, I am not losing any respect for Aaron just because of one post. Flynn ruined several before I said very much. Aaron, it seems doesn't use English as a first language so I allow him some leeway. Even if English is his first, he doesn't use it very well yet. But the point is, he hasn't ruined enough threads to get upset over.

Make sense?

I don't think English is a second language to Aaron, I think he's just very young
and does not yet understand forum etiquete. The short attention span in the posts gave it away. That is forgiveable to an extent. He will learn one day like the rest of us did.

"Respect is earned, not given" I've always been told. I don't expect it from people. I can try my best, but there is a certain point if you try too hard its desperation, life is too short to try and make everyone happy.
