Announcing the project Mr Wales said it was needed because the existing search systems for the net were "broken".

They were broken, he said, because they lacked freedom, community, accountability and transparency.

Does that mean Wikipedia is a golden standard of excellence? If it does, I'll stay with my googles tyvm. I think it'll probably be one hell of a search engine for anime, porn, and internet memes. The longest, most detailed articles on the wikipedia are almost always about anime or internet memes, and any connection to either that could possibly be made with any subject is documented and linked. It's all because the most active members of the wikipedia 'community' are internet trolls, who stereotypically watch almost nothing but anime, flash cartoons, and porn.

By all means, fix the whole "accountability and transparency" thing however you think you can, but honestly I'd rather have my searches guided by a handful of programmers than a 'community' from all corners of the internet.

I just found one of the most helpful programs ever.

I'm sure you all know this kind of error: "The file is in use by another program or user."

It can get really annoying and there's no way you can access the file. It doesn't even tell you which program uses it.

Now here's the solution:

It lets you access, delete, copy files blocked by windows because of this error. It's freeware, small and saved me a lot of time and trouble.

Seems like a good idea, is the idea to save paper? I can't help but
feel that if it's like that, it could be hassle to "upload" the daily
newspaper to it say.

I wonder how it's lit? That's my biggest issue with reading on a
laptop/PDA, the "backlight" effect. Gives a glare and makes it hard on
the eyes.

My yard is already plagued with the neighbors plastic bags and old news papers. I can just imagine these floating across the fences.

Anyway, I admit I am slow sometimes, but I found out today just how doctors can preform abortions, without breaking their oath to do no harm.

It seems there is a loophole in that oath to do no harm. The baby isn't assigned a doctor until after it is born. Up to that point, the mother has an OB/GYN. This particular doctor is the mothers, and preforming said abortion, if done well, does no harm to her. :rolleyes:

Another thing I found out today:

In the states where abortion is legal, the woman has the right to kill her unborn child, BUT in this very same state, if someone were to knock her down accidentally and kill her unborn child, the person who killed the child can land in jail for doing so.

Talk about having your cake and eating it too.

It is a pure miracle software. A must have! The version I had been using had a time limit, but it won me over lock stock and barrel. It cut my time spent by 1/2.

This program moved into my hall of fame and joined XAT in its greatness.

A DLP HDTV on sale for $800. It's at a "thrift" shop (don't you wish you had thrift shops like mine?) There's a sign on it that says "works great", but the place has a policy of "return for store credit only" and that doesn't bode well with me. I've gotten electronics from them before, one actually busted after about 2 years (which isn't that bad considering it was probably already 10 years old), I bought a monitor there that's fantastic (it was also $15).

I just would like to really try the thing out before I even think about purchasing it. To clarify it is Widescreen (duh) and is 44". it has the 44" sticker still on it though, so I'm thinking, maybe, it was a floor model at a local Best Buy, maybe. I wish I payed more attention to the brand, I know it wasn't Sony, so I'm not totally against the tv yet. The only issue I really have is that I can't test anything HD on it, I don't have any HD stuff to bring with me to try out on it.

Oh well, it's only like $600 off a brand new one. (Unless the bulbs are close to burning out, then it's only $350 cheaper)

You would be more woeful if the scanner actually went through and figured out how many files there were on the computer. It would double the time complexity of the scanner because you'd be visiting each file at least two times. Keep in mind, that's also double the disc access', which are very slow.

No operating system keeps a running count of the number of files on the system because there's too many. The actual act of managing this constantly would incur overhead.

The only way I can think this could be approximated is look at the length of the partition ... but then that only says how large the disc partition is ... which is something you already know.

I think, instead, a better idea than a counting down file number (which would make the thing run twice as slow) is calculating about how long it would take to scan the entire partition(s). This could easily work by averaging the amount of time scanning has taken so far in regards to the amount of data you've processed and the size of the partition. That is the only feasible way you could do this!

No rebuttals of "well it would be nice if it worked this or that way", because it doesn't.

Live with it. Or develop your own computer system that does this accurately with no added overhead.
