NOTICE: READ THIS ENTIRE THREAD BEFORE REPLYING, ESPECIALLY MY REQUESTS/RULES.

Well kids, it's looking like I've made it to the big time, and now I'm an all-American official Snarkpit reviewer. This thread is for you aspiring mappers to send me your work, if you want it reviewed. But I have a few requests to make.

1. MOST IMPORTANTLY: Do not reply to this thread unless you have a WORKING URL for a WORKING .zip file that will give me a WORKING map. I will occasionally post a list of maps I'm currently reviewing, and if it is not on there, and you submitted a map, PM me, and I will tell you what's wrong or apologize for being a dumbass and not seeing it.

2. Do not send me your map unless you are ready for me to review it. Do not send me hate mail if killbox2k4 got a bad review. I am a pretty harsh reviewer, but if you sincerely want to learn and improve your mapping through the opinions of others, send it to me.

3. I will try my best to playtest the maps I'm sent with other human beings, however including waypoints for popular bots is suggested. Gameplay is an important part of the review.

4. I will accept any map that you made in the past, just released, or are going to release later, so long as it meets my criteria. If you do not wish for your map's URL to be posted publicly, PM it to me.

5. Start sendin' them maps, and pray I have mercy on your souls

6. Any type of mod map is accepted, but if I don't own the mod I can't rate it on terms of gameplay.

If you (somehow!) find yourself stuck for something to review, feel free to do one of Seneca of Torrent, they haven't been reviewed much. Do other people's over these though, they have been out a while and have been reviewed elsewhere, so I'm in no desperate need of one

I'd love for you to review mine, but since they are inlcuded with TS and are hence exclusive it's not really practical for me to release the as standalones.

Still, if you want to do any of 'em then feel free.

(A side note: This year of school has become way more stressful than I would have ever imagined, free time is now at second place and the reviews aren't quite top o' the list)

The guy barely has time to do one and you're giving him 8? This is why so many HL map review sites fail - the mappers have no respect for the time necessary to critique a map and the reviewer(s) get absolutely overloaded and give up.

Compared to making a map, doing a half-decent review is nothing. Several months compared to an hour maybe? The main problem is that most review sites let the maps pile up rather than keep doing at least a few reviews a weeks. Also, some sites kinda waste space/time reviewing maps that really aren't worth the effort. If I was running a review site, the point would be to spotlight maps that were at least good. Terrible killboxes etc. would be weeded out right off the bat.

That being said... I agree kind of. You shouldn't send all your maps at once to a new review site; just your newest. Then maybe a couple others that are particularly good later on. It's just common sense. But Schmung may have just wanted Cassius to pick his favorite, so no biggie.

Although, wouldn't it make more sense for Cassius to review any maps of Schmung's NOT in TS? Since part of the point is to let players know whether a 3rd party map is worth downloading?

A map can take several hours 'to do properly', and you really have to be in the mood to do it- i.e. the to-review list can grow quite alarmingly!

And about the killboxes, that was only meant as a laugh as I couldn't be arsed with proper maps any more, I find such terrible wastes of space quite funny sometimes (especially when you get to right about, say, the horrors of a house and it's toxic chairs)- hence 'shite map sunday' actually having a name and being a regular feature...

I enjoy humour in reviews. Reviewing crappy maps & making jokes about them are great fun to read.

after getting my feet wet recently in reviews, i have a new outlook and respect for the profession, anyone who thinks it is easy should try it..

also, i feel you can place funny within a good quality map as well as a box, its a waste of HD space to store a killbox map, why waste more HD space on a review of one

anyways, i plan on doing some, but will not bother with how behind i may appear... i figure if its really that important to someone, they can assist, or shut up about it, its that simple

also, since i would feel obligated to be 100% unbiased, and all, i would have to give the same level of attention to a s**tmap, why waste the time on one..

i have no more respect for a s**tmap author, than they do toward me for releasing one..

the link is borked bud

and this is the most recent humor i loved best in a review..
the r_speeds command was whispering in my ear, promising that it has never let me down before, and mentioned something about naming its first born child after me if only I would enable it, but through it all I resisted, and am now a changed person for doing so
i was laughing so hard writing it, i had to stop typing till i finished my fit

still i know what you are driving at, but my point is, everyone knows killbox's are nothing more than what they portend to be.. making fun of them doesn't help

to me, its like making fun of a downs child.. both are broken, why draw attention to them..??

I only put down them all for information purposes, it's up to him which ones he reviews, if any. Since they never really went through a sort of formal critiqueing process I'm betting theres tons of stuff I've missed. Actually, I know there is, now TS has been out for a few months I've spotted tons of problems and things that never cropped up in testing.

I started back wiht mapping on Central and that was all I did for several months until TS was released. Since then I've taken a break and I've been looking around a lot for ways to improve my maps. Being here has certainly helped me with that and while I'm for the most part happy with the way my maps play I feel they could do with something of a visual overhaul in places and probably some technical work to lower r_speeds.

I was hoping that if any of them were reviewed then it might give me a few pointers and whatnot. Anyway I was certainly considering posting here for crits and stuff with my next maps as the problem with working on TS was that sicne we had such a small team it was quite difficult to get any feedback. I'm sure you guys understand how after working on a map for a long time it gets difficult to find any sort of objectivity. I certainly had this problem after knocking out 6 of my own maps and trying to do something with someone elses in what was a fairly short space of time (about 8-9 months I think).

Anyway, thnaks for listening, sorry if I gave the impression that I wanted all those maps reviewd.
