I can't wait. Honestly, I'll probably get a PS3 exclusively for GTA IV.
I can't friggin' wait...

mmm... look at that light changing on the buildings in the trailer. I've been waiting for a game to do that so faithfully for years.

Also there's rumor they're using a new animation/physics engine called endorphin. Check out the video, it's pretty impressive. You can have characters getting knocked down and then getting up again, naturally. All done dynamically with physics.
Why snark works.

It looks like Rockstar might have gotten their collective heads out of the ass of controversial games for the sake of controversy. Don't get me wrong, I love killing hookers and blowing up cars as much as the next guy, but taste and tact haven't the developer's strong points, historically. From the trailer and what little information they've released it looks like GTA4 will be a more serious and mature game.

That endorphin video was awesome. I checked out their site and there's a free time-unlimited learning edition http://www.naturalmotion.com/ele.htm

I can't wait to play as an illegal immigrant. sarcasm

Honestly, I think Vice City was a masterpiece, perfect settings & characterisations etc.

San Andreas was over developed and crammed with too much content and not enough focus on what made GTA fun in the first place.

If they follow trend and add even more stuff to the genre, it's gonna be overbaked and I won't bother even looking at it. I also find they are being contraversial for the sake of it more recently - there's no real need to see how far you can push things before people start waving big pointy sticks.

They obviously have the graphics engine to do something really amazing - lets hope they can distill it into a focussed enjoyable game this time.

That game looks pretty nice, but I hope they make the gameplay a bit longer lasting than the last 2 parts in the series, completed them and got bored of them too quickly imo for the price I paid for the games.

I saw the trailer for number 4 a while back. I was damn impressed -- it appears that this one'll take place in Liberty City, just like GTA3.

I too would like to see the game take a slightly more serious approach to things -- GTA3 was great, I personally thought Vice City was down right stupid, and I disliked it so much that I never had any hope for San Andreas, and thus, never played it.

On a final note, I really hope that GTA 4 will be released with a PC version along with the PS3 version. I have no intent on getting a PS3 any time soon... bleh.

I have to say that even though I had suspected that it would be a one-city game, I'm still disappointed that there will be no flying with aeroplanes. It would be stupid not to include Helicopters.

>>You can have characters getting knocked down and then getting up again, naturally. All done dynamically with physics.

-- Saints Row already did this and it was very impressive. In general, Saints Row was an excellent next gen GTA style game - they did alot of things better than GTA (mainly combat and variety).

>>taste and tact haven't the developer's strong points, historically. From the trailer and what little information they've released it looks like GTA4 will be a more serious and mature game.

-- Personally, I wouldn't want them to change their formula dramatically. I would like them to improve the core gameplay, but going 'serious' will only hurt them; thus, I don't think they intend to do that. I expect the same angle of humor, and drama, hopefully with more dramatic impact, better story telling, and characters you care more about.

>>I also find they are being contraversial for the sake of it more recently - there's no real need to see how far you can push things before people start waving big pointy sticks.I also find they are being contraversial for the sake of it more recently - there's no real need to see how far you can push things before people start waving big pointy sticks.

--I don't see what you see. Though they are known for creating games with controversial focus, they surely aren't doing it just for the sake of it - I haven't played it, but from waht i hear, Bully was a good game, and not 'crass' as some may expect. Also, they created an excellent Table Tennis game for 360, which was the most non-controversial game I've ever seen.

>> That game looks pretty nice, but I hope they make the gameplay a bit longer lasting than the last 2 parts in the series, completed them and got bored of them too quickly imo for the price I paid for the games.

-- Jesus, what do you want, 200 hour games? I'd say for the price, you got a ton more content and replayability than most games. I couldn't finish any of the GTA games - mainly due to the lackluster missions and fairly poor combat mechanic. To me, the fun was the sandbox nature of the game; driving around, getting into trouble. I just hope they take note from Saints Row and improve their aiming mechanic, if they expect us to do alot of shooting.

Afaik, they will include helicopters, just not airplanes like the ones in San Andreas because they are unrealistic and wouldn't work well with only one city to fly over.

Personally I think San Andreas was amazing, even more amazing than Vice City.
I can't see why you wouldn't want to play an illegal immigrant. Really, what's the difference? This guy has a lot more character than any of the other GTA protagonists so far (although, Carl Johnson was one hell of a man) and I'm certain it will be a pleasure playing an immigrants American dream for a change.

I don't want my protagonists to have any character. I want him to be a blank shell so i can have my own opinions. The most annoying thing in the overrated game Pray was that the main character would say annoying phrases totally contradicting what i was thinking. I felt like they were trying to force me what to think. I like what they did in the Half Life series or Halo ware the main character only has 2 or 3 lines.

I liked the bold 80ies retro style of Vice City.

I mean, what game had ever done this before (successfully)? I didn't know they had a real-world soundtrack the first time I played, expecting something like the excellent fake radio-stations of gta3 but then a Michael Jackson song came up while I was driving that 80ies sports car into the sunset. Awesome!

It looks sweet. And I liked GTA 3 and Vice City, San Andreas was also fun but not quite as good as the other two imo. I have high hopes for this game.

If you listen to sensationalist media, yes. In actuality? I don't think there is a game like that in existence.
