Basically what happened in half-life is that you apparently 'cause' a residence cascade. This how all the monsters came to earth. Your basically trying to escape the Black Mesa Facility alive, running away from the monsters and the government forces (hgrunt.....)

Its a very basic, singular story.

Halo and Half-life are both extremely popular games, both have sold millions of copies, both are very good games, halo and halo 2 both received 10/10 and half-life and half-life 2 got 96%, which is a 10/10 , and both have extremely large fan bases, it up to you weather you like both of them or only one.

Ain't nothing wrong with Halo, infact I greatly enjoyed Halo1 singleplayer on legendary. It's right up there with Goldeneye as the best console fps.

The problem is when people claim it's the best fps ever, or a better game than any of the fps classics on the pc, or that it's revolutionary. Cause it just isn't. It would maybe crack the top 10 in the list of best fps ever, but it is not qualitatively better than Half-Life1, Quake1, Jedi Knight1, Doom2, or Unreal Tournament 99 at least :dorky: (and I'm not even mentioning games I personally don't care about but could probably be argued for like Deus Ex, System Shock, Tribes1, Rainbow Six, Duke Nukem...)

And this isn't a dig at you aaron, it's just that it's pretty easy to find 'Halo is the best most revolutionary FPS ever' all over the internet, which annoys fps fans who have played the aforementioned games, cause it sure as s**t isn't. Which is why many times long time pc fps players will be pretty negative towards Halo (and its fans) :shocked:

The best First Person Shooter ever made for any system is Descent. Not even Half-Life can touch the old-school bad ass that is Descent. Before you call this fanboyism, remember, fanboys only like new games. :rolleyes:

so is X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Freelancer, every combat flight sim ever made, and all the Mechwarriors + crappy knockoffs

I think of mechwarrior as a First Person Shooter, why wouldn't it be? You're restricted to limited movement along the Z axis (unless you get a very light mech with nothing but jump jets).

I draw the line at where the player is allowed to fly (Descent 3 was pushing it). In Descents 1&2, you were restricted mostly to small rooms, as well as most of Descent 3. TIE fighter let you go pretty much whereever you wanted.
The ceiling constitutes a limit on Z movement as far as I'm concerned.

Mechwarrior has much more in common with a tank sim than a fps, at least in my eyes. You have objective-based missions, you never pick up any weapon or ammo during those missions, you have to worry about damage to specific sections of your chassis, you have to customize your loadout before the mission, combat is slow paced and maneuverability and positioning is as important as anything else. Obviously all those spaceship games I mentioned were space sims. I'd classify Descent as an action 'sim' myself.

sigh, almost all of my favorite games of my youth are in the dead simulation genre. No wonder I hate almost every game released these days and can't stand any of the current console generation, they have zero depth . What I wouldn't give for a new Mechwarrior!

What I wouldn't give for Mechwarriors 2 and 3 with 4's graphics!
Great, now I want to play them all, I guess I'll have to dig up MW3.

I thought Mechwarrior 2 Mercs was the best. Sadly I can't get my copy running on my computer

Maybe this will help I can't seem to find anything for the first Mechwarrior ... not even people talking about it, everything starts at Mechwarrior 2. Does the first one suck unbelievable amounts of ass?
