I know last week I said hell froze over with the emergence of a new Duke Nukem Forever trailer ... but now it's just official:

I successfully printed on a XP printer (a printer hooked up to a computer running Win XP on my network) from Linux and Vista (!) with no configuration tweaking ...

The apocalypse, surely, is close.

Here's a few things I've found out today.

Apparently, many PSP titles aren't doing very well and are getting ported and overhauled for the PS2, two I know of right now are Ratchet and Clank Size Matters and Silent Hill Origins.

There's a chance Sony will no longer be making the 80GB PS3, and will phase everything to the 40GB model (this means PS3 will no longer have backwards compatibility)

Assassin's Creed on PC will have an outrageous memory requirement of 2GB, recommended 3GB! What the hell, man!? Hopefully, they have a good reason for requiring this, because it's absolutely outrageous to require that.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

They have already done that here in Aus, dropped the 60gb model, brought in the 40gb with no backwards compatibility, less USB ports and something else changed that I cant think of at the moment.

I don't get it. Doesn't the 360 have 512 MB Ram? Where does the jump come from?

Xbox 360 has ddr3 ram, though, but I'm wondering what's causing the huge cost as well.

Maybe the game was continuously grabbing stuff off the disc and putting it in memory on the consoles? Both of the ones it was on has more than 2 cores, so it's possible. I doubt they'd want to required more than dual core processors (they are requiring dual cores, by the way) so they can't dedicate a core to loading, which means everything needs to be loaded at one time.

Though, it's probably the case that they're enhancing the game at the same time. I know when they port games to PC developers are tending to be a little more meticulous as PC gamers aren't as forgiving.

I don't mind the memory so much as the dual core processor, memory is fairly cheap and easy to find ... unlike a retail 939 X2 processor. (Getting two more 1GB sticks of memory for me would be under $100USD, the processor would be like $180-$280 ... if anyone had them)

To note, the xbox uses a 512 MB pool of GDDR3 memory for graphics and system memory. That's not the same thing as DDR3.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

PS3 has a little catching up to do, 360 has been out longer, and the cell architecture takes more man-hours to develop games for. There was a lack of good titles for 360 for a while too. There are AAA studios developing exclusive titles on all current-gen systems, same as it's always been since game consoles and AAA games both existed (read: the dawn of time). There have always been fanboys too =/

To name a few:
Resistance: Fall of Man
Metal Gear Solid 4
Gran Turismo 5
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
God of War 3
Ratchet and Clank Future

While 360 has:
Halo
Gears of War
Huxley
Burnout
Oblivion
Perfect Dark Zero

Edit: As for GTA4, time spent working out kinks for PS3 is likely also time spent polishing for 360, so everybody wins

I have trouble recalling a single player fps I've played that's worse than Resistance, and three of the other five for PS3 haven't even been released yet. Huxley hasn't been released yet either, and it's gonna be god awful in every conceivable way.

Oblivion and Burnout:Paradise are on both systems as well.

Why do I know this garbage when I hate all the consoles argh

MGS4 (hopefully)
Ratchet and Clank 5
Uncharted
Little Big Planet (Rag Doll Physics guys)
Silent Hill 5 should be good too.

The 360 has ... Dead Rising, everything else isn't exclusive except Halo 3 and that doesn't really concern me (nor will it continue to be exclusive)

I do count the PC as a platform, by the way.

There are plenty of FPS out there that are worse than Resistance ... Killzone is one of them. The game has plenty of issues, though.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

No doubt, but I haven't played them

I would claim to have good taste were it not for owning and enjoying Rebel Assault II, Gunman Chronicles, or SimCopter. I do have Unreal 2 despite never installing it... perhaps I could run through that and knock Resistance off the 'worst fps ever played' list.

EDIT: damnit, I totally forgot I played DX2:IW for way longer than it deserved. That game is worse than Resistance.

Crono, Baron, when I say good games, I mean good, not just average good.

Xbox 360 has Halo 3 and Gears of War, and some might even consider Forza 2 or maybe Mass Effect just fits into that category. Like these games or not, they are very stressful and almost every Xbox 360 owner has at least one of these titles. What exclusive games does Play station 3 have that are really successful and good?

I haven't played any of those games as the latest console I own is an xbox. I've briefly played a Shadowrun demo on 360, other than that I have no direct experience with any of these consoles. Right now I'd be more inclined to get a 360, mostly because Mass Effect looks so damn awesome. Once GT5 and MGS4 are out though, PS3 is the only logical choice for me. Naughty Dog developing for PS3 is another big reason, they rock.
three of the other five for PS3 haven't even been released yet.
that was my point.

Crono, Baron, when I say good games, I mean good, not just average good.
Then you can knock the number of 360 exclusives down to one: Mass Effect. Everything else is average (or not exclusive).

I don't think the Ratchet, Silent Hill, or MGS series' are average in "good", they generally set the bar in some fashion.

haha, do not resist clicking this link!!! http://twhl.co.za/forums.php?pgt=17&action=viewthread&id=13141&pg=1 that topic it the most amusing thing i have ever read since garfeild! (i was a kid, i don't read those anymore) but, yeah, i would vote ps3. like everyone else said, standing in you're room (or even worse, in you're living room when theres a whole crowd outside staring at you and you don't know about it) dancing or bowling or something else like that is just extremly embarrasing, and, yes, you never know when it might just slip out of your hand (hey, you were swinging the thing around for so long that you are sweating, yet you stupidly think the wii is a great addicting console that you don't want to stop playing) and break your tv AND your remote, and even better, it might even hit someone on the way to the tv. the avertisments were people are dancing or bowling are just stupid. also, i really don't want to start another flame war or anything, but WHY THE HECK DOES STEAM HAVE TO ACCESS THE INTERNET EVERYTIME I TRY TO RUN HALF LIFE 2!? and you wonder why i hate steam... no, i am running in offline mode, no, half life 2 isn't trying to access the internet, steam is... and last but not least, if i deny it, it won't start half life 2. why the heck does valve always say "oh, steam is a GREAT GREAT program! steam keeps your games up to date with the latest patches, fixes and more!"? please allow me to fix this sentence to my liking: oh, steam is a horrible HORRIBLE program! steam keeps you from running half life 2 if you don't let it access the internet! in fact, you HAVE to let it access the internet when you first try it to make sure we get every single detail from your computer like, you're ip address, your full name, your credit card number, your credit card password and more!

oh, we nearly forgot the best part! steam realizes alot of members are saying steam is a pain in the rear end but half life 2 runs perfectly! guess what? steam got mad and lagged half life 2 down to 1 fps, and you can't turn water relections because steam thinks your computer is crappy and can't run anything!

/translation of valves thoughts of steam

OLED Technology can be used to make lights that produce 45 Lumens per Watt currently and potentially in the near future up to 150 Lumens per Watt.

That would make a 900 Lumen light take 6W ... if your wondering, that's the same amount of light output as a 13W halogen and more than a 60W incandescent.

Not to mention there's the possibility for making cool project-able vistas in your a room!

I think if OLED technology can become more sustaining (it's organic so there's a time frame for the materials) it will take over everything, we'll see it in use everywhere.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

There has to be only a hand full of people who fide that funny. Or am i just too young? The short life span of organic OLED's will only make it more enticing for the manufactures.
Looks like pocket projectors are just around the corner. lol

If you think "organic" means natural or biodegradable, you're wrong. OLEDs are LEDs just like those using standard semiconductor materials, except they are made out of plastics, which if anything have a much longer environmental half-life than inorganic materials. Their primary advantage is that they may become very cheap to manufacture and can be mechanically flexible. their lifetime should eventually be comparable to that of inorganic devices.

In this rather lengthy gametrailers video there's new info on Episode 3 (stuff that "hasn't been done in games before, graphically; guns "cooler than the portal gun") and L4D looks better and better since Turtle Rock merged with Valve (they finally got the lighting right). drool

And yes, CS2... not drool

Heh, I used the randomizer to make this comic:

Panel 1
(Jon's dressed for a date)
Garfield: Uh, Jon...
Jon: One minute she was there, and the next minute...

Panel 2
(Garfield has a full supper dish)
Jon: That looks like beef.

Panel 3
Jon: So I got this leather jacket. What you think, Garfield?
