So you say you have map skillz?

Wanna prove it to everyone out there. Enter to win $200.00 bucks.

Heres how.

You make a map based on our guidelines and enter it into the contest.
Your map along with the other entrants will be judged on our forum.
All you have to do it start mapping.

Heres the Guidelines:

It must be a De_map Defuse only
The map is based on this storey.

Terrorist have taken over a small outpost in the outskirts of a mountain town. Upon realizing that there encampment has been discovered they have decided to blow up there ammo dumps.
The Counter Terrorist must beat them to the dumps in order to uncover the evidence for U.N inspection.

All creative parts are left to you! You decide how it looks how it works and how it maps out.
Remember it should play well before it looks good. But both will most likely win.

How to enter.
Email ztkillers@yahoo.com and let me know your starting to map.
Or post on our forums http://www.ztkclan.com/forums/phpbb2/. Once you have finished make a zip and send me the file with your name and a contact email address.

We will be running all contest entrants on our second server 69.93.58.74:27025 and some on our main server 69.93.58.74:27015
after the deadline.

All maps must have the following logo on them at completion. http://www.magiccirclegames.com/circlelogozt1k1.JPG
Somewhere on the map. You may enter as many maps as you wish.

Deadline for entrants is March 31st 2004
after this date a poll will go up on our forums to pick the winner.
The poll will run untill april 9th 2004 at 12am. At this time the winner will be picked and given there prize.

If it is found that you use someone elses map you will be removed from the contest. No remakes or old maps names. It must be 100% yours.

Contest sponsered by www.ztkclan.com

Sounds like fun, but one thing about your storyline...

Why would the UN be inspecting illegal terrorist weapons dumps? ^_^

Can the map not have to be on the edge of a mountain town? I have one in the works (not fparadise mind you) that I would love to enter, but it doesn't fit that setting (it's on an island).

hmmm scratches buttocks

didn't notice this bit of info the first few times i read it.

playing well is very personalized, but since i do not play CS, or even care to, i will leave it up to my fellow snarkpitters to inform me if the resulting winners truly did so.

i am more apt to trust a pitter than some contest judge.

as i said at PFL, good luck on the contest, it sounds like fun.

Hey, at least it isn't like that stupid "make the most detailed and impossible to play map you can" that happened a while ago...gameplay is subjective, but it's not too tough to determine if its accepable or crap, especially with CS. The standards are so low for that mod.

I'd attempt entering if I didn't have a huge map to finish, two prefabs to skin and make, and a new map to plan out on paper...

Hey guys,

Sorry I left things so open theres a bit more info on our forums. http://www.ztkclan.com/forums/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=209

Yes anyone can enter just remember we are paying in american dollars not pounds. As long as you can setup a paypal account you can handle the exchange rate.

The Story line was modifed slightly to let you guys be a bit more creative here it is.

A so called peaceful terrorist group have taken over a small outpost. Upon realizing that there encampment has been discovered they have decided to blow up there ammo dumps.
The Counter Terrorist must beat them to the dumps in order to uncover the evidence and prove to the U.N that they are indeed Terrorists.

Should have added that. The map is the only part that has to be yours. If you would like to use prefabs, etc from other sources thats up to you.

Again I will state this I am not a mapper. But I am very fond of you guys that take the time to make our games better. I wanted a way to 1 get some maps with our clans logo on it and 2. Get a few of you guys some exposure running this contest. Also offer up a nice big map pack to everyone who plays CS.

Well I hope that covers everything if not feel free to email me at admin@ztkclan.com or ztkillers@yahoo.com

Thanks guys,

Motter

Alright! For the first time ever, I opened up VHE and was happy to see a blanc grid. In a little over 1 hour I have my idea out on paper and I have nearly completed 1 of the bomb points. w00t!!

A few questions however:

1) I assume its 2 bomb points only correct (no more, no less)
2) Can I remove player buy zones and have the weapons on the ground so that the player picks them up? (if so, anyone want to tell me how I can do that; just like the fy_ maps)
3) Anybody can tell me how to make a de_ map, lol. I've never actually done a CS map before

Anyways, I'm off, I have an exam and interview tomorow to decide if I get my power scholarship this summer (most important day of the year tomorow) I cant get anything lower than a above average mark in both testings.

Sorry, flying takes priority.

Wild Card, I'm not them but I would anticipate:

1 - Two is best. There are no official maps with more or less, and I'm assuming they want something official-ish gameplay wise.

2 - I would assume no. Budgeting for weapons is an integral part to clan-based CS games.

3 - There are tutorials at http://countermap.counter-strike.net

Who knows, maybe this'll bring me out of retirement.

I think its so funny when people declare that they are 'retired' from mapping... Especially since the so called retirement usually spans for a mere couple months...

It's been at least a year since I did any serious mapping and it really doesn't show any sign of stopping. Real Life(tm) happens in about four months and I just don't see myself involved in video games at that point. I decided quite some time ago I want nothing to do with the video game industry so far as jobs are concerned, and as a player I'm really starting to fall back more into a back-seat mode. As to whether I really accomplished anything worth retiring from, well maybe there's a case to be made there.

Sound to me like some company is trying to get off by not designing a level for Counter Strike 2 when HL2 comes out. But in anycase sounds like fun, and 200 bucks!! that'll help for 9800 XT

Wow. About time there was another mapping contest for a prize.

I suggest you pimp your contest over all the mapping sites. With a $200
prize at stake if you do that you will get a LOT of very good entries.
Here is where I would post news of the contest:

http://www.forumplanet.com/counterstrike/forum.asp?fid=4965
http://countermap.counter-strike.net/cgi-bin/ubb/Ultimate.cgi
http://forums.gamedesign.net

At those sites you are likely to get a fair number of skilled
"old-school" mappers who are waiting for HL2 and have time inbetween.

Its also a good idea to email Planet Half-Life and cscentral. They are
likely to post the news. Then bang, you have 10x as many entries.

http://www.planethalflife.com
http://www.cscentral.com/

However, you'd better be prepared to pay up to the winner. If you don't
pay up then realistically theres not much the winner can do, BUT you
and your clan will be shunned by mappers and gamers everywhere.

Well,

Right now I have been keeping a list of every person who says there going to sign up. But some have not checked in either on the ztkforums or by email. So the list total of people who have said they are starting is a bit iffy at best. But the head count right now is 21.

I am also trying to get a couple other sponsers. (this will change the logo placed on the map) So I can have a 2nd and 3rd prize.

Ill keep you guys posted.

Well this might sound untrue. But Im not really in the competition for the money. Sure its a bonus. But since I've been with the Snarkpit, for about 2 years now, I have been unable to come up with a map on my own (the exception being Cliff Complex which evolved from 3 previous maps).

So everytime theres a comp, I perk up since finally, I am told what to do so its easier for me. lol

Ooh smart, my suggestion wouldn't of been to make this contest so open ended though, virtually every de_ counter strike map is illegible for this contest, and I think a lot of people will just submit all their old maps in hope of getting some of teh monies, meaning people who've made maps specially for it in the alloted time frame might be cheated out.

That and I have a cool idea for a mountain range based map

I think DANS got a point there. Although the map would have to be within the guidlines of rules - meaning ppl would have to recompile with the logo and such.

Well the theme is very original IMO because there arent too many maps out there that feature a mountain top of some sort. The logo isnt the biggest deal though. I mean, really, how hard is it to open your .RMF, insert a new texture and recompile?

That doesn't sound like a very good prize to me. (the 3rd place prize, not the 200 bucks, that'd be nice).

Seriously, how is the space free if you have to put advertisements on it?

(it's not)

And if normal users of their server have to do that, then why the hell are they playing money? You either get advertisement or money, not both. . .

sigh anyways, I wanna see your guy's maps when they're done, I'm sure they'll be amazing.

I'm not going for any prize lol.

No where near the caliber as the people entering, nor do I have time to create these maps and tweak them to the point of near perfection. Also, then why did they specifically say free for a year if you normally don't have to pay for the service?

I was just commenting on the matter, so in the words of the hormone-ally challenged Vash: "Meh" lol

(sorry, man, I just had to lol . . . I know you'll think to look here because you're physic . . . lol ok ok sorry, Seriously I'm kidding.)

one reason is if i do decide to give up on pixelgames at least they will have the site for a year...chances are theyll have it for longer for a year but they will pretty much be certain to have it for a year. Oh and its also a subdomain, something we also dont normally offer.
