Sounds like fun, but one thing about your storyline...
Why would the UN be inspecting illegal terrorist weapons dumps? ^_^

Can the map not have to be on the edge of a mountain town? I have one in the works (not fparadise mind you) that I would love to enter, but it doesn't fit that setting (it's on an island).

Alright! For the first time ever, I opened up VHE and was happy to see a blanc grid. In a little over 1 hour I have my idea out on paper and I have nearly completed 1 of the bomb points. w00t!!
A few questions however:
1) I assume its 2 bomb points only correct (no more, no less)
2) Can I remove player buy zones and have the weapons on the ground so that the player picks them up? (if so, anyone want to tell me how I can do that; just like the fy_ maps)
3) Anybody can tell me how to make a de_ map, lol. I've never actually done a CS map before
Anyways, I'm off, I have an exam and interview tomorow to decide if I get my power scholarship this summer (most important day of the year tomorow) I cant get anything lower than a above average mark in both testings.
Sorry, flying takes priority.

I think its so funny when people declare that they are 'retired' from mapping... Especially since the so called retirement usually spans for a mere couple months...

It's been at least a year since I did any serious mapping and it really doesn't show any sign of stopping. Real Life(tm) happens in about four months and I just don't see myself involved in video games at that point. I decided quite some time ago I want nothing to do with the video game industry so far as jobs are concerned, and as a player I'm really starting to fall back more into a back-seat mode. As to whether I really accomplished anything worth retiring from, well maybe there's a case to be made there.

Sound to me like some company is trying to get off by not designing a level for Counter Strike 2 when HL2 comes out. But in anycase sounds like fun, and 200 bucks!! that'll help for 9800 XT
-omega
....if you cant tell by now im jokeing about someone trying to get off for free

I've started on a map already, not sure when I'll be finished seeing as I'm using a s**t computer.

Well,
Right now I have been keeping a list of every person who says there going to sign up. But some have not checked in either on the ztkforums or by email. So the list total of people who have said they are starting is a bit iffy at best. But the head count right now is 21.
I am also trying to get a couple other sponsers. (this will change the logo placed on the map) So I can have a 2nd and 3rd prize.
Ill keep you guys posted.

Well this might sound untrue. But Im not really in the competition for the money. Sure its a bonus. But since I've been with the Snarkpit, for about 2 years now, I have been unable to come up with a map on my own (the exception being Cliff Complex which evolved from 3 previous maps).
So everytime theres a comp, I perk up since finally, I am told what to do so its easier for me. lol

Ooh smart, my suggestion wouldn't of been to make this contest so open ended though, virtually every de_ counter strike map is illegible for this contest, and I think a lot of people will just submit all their old maps in hope of getting some of teh monies, meaning people who've made maps specially for it in the alloted time frame might be cheated out.
That and I have a cool idea for a mountain range based map

I think DANS got a point there. Although the map would have to be within the guidlines of rules - meaning ppl would have to recompile with the logo and such.

Well the theme is very original IMO because there arent too many maps out there that feature a mountain top of some sort. The logo isnt the biggest deal though. I mean, really, how hard is it to open your .RMF, insert a new texture and recompile?

That doesn't sound like a very good prize to me. (the 3rd place prize, not the 200 bucks, that'd be nice).
Seriously, how is the space free if you have to put advertisements on it?
(it's not)
And if normal users of their server have to do that, then why the hell are they playing money? You either get advertisement or money, not both. . .
sigh anyways, I wanna see your guy's maps when they're done, I'm sure they'll be amazing.

oh and btw the regular users dont pay money either, they're just limited on what they can do..besides your going for prize #1 not prize #3

I'm not going for any prize lol.
No where near the caliber as the people entering, nor do I have time to create these maps and tweak them to the point of near perfection. Also, then why did they specifically say free for a year if you normally don't have to pay for the service?
I was just commenting on the matter, so in the words of the hormone-ally challenged Vash: "Meh" lol
(sorry, man, I just had to lol . . . I know you'll think to look here because you're physic . . . lol ok ok sorry, Seriously I'm kidding.)

one reason is if i do decide to give up on pixelgames at least they will have the site for a year...chances are theyll have it for longer for a year but they will pretty much be certain to have it for a year. Oh and its also a subdomain, something we also dont normally offer.
