Ultra pretty, making good use of the new engine I see myrk :) Smooth groups are discussed in the SDK documentation I believe, seemed quite finicky if I remember correctly. As for the metal - are you sure your using a world material and not one meant for a model? If it is, thats probably your problem, they always come out with dodgy light issues on world brushes.

Is it listed as "self-illuminating" in the materials browser, or as any other type for that matter?

Best use of the fog effect in any HL2 map in existence!

But how's the gameplay? Does the arena provide any cover? Like rocks? Trees don't block bullets effectively as far as I know.

Just wanna see peoples' opinions so far... In the last month or so I've spent all of 20 minutes making it.

I'll soon send it to be Orphorized.

I think you might be overusing point_spotlight a little too much, it
looks rather bad in the first screen on those light fixtures. The
indoor lighting also seems too muddled to me without any clear focus.
I'm not too sure what to really look at and there's just too many
colors going on. Architecture looks okay though, and I like the
outdoors area.

Yer the spotlights on the bar lights I'm going to remove, and in the 3rd pic theres a blank one because the damn model won't load. I've actually tried one of each kind of prop on the model and it doesn't work at all!

Looks nice

Any custom materials or models in this? I assume the prop that
won't load that you mentioned is one the comes packaged with the sdk...

Your right, as well...you outdoor area is much more interesting looking than mine :/

At least what we can see of it so far

No offence to anyone, but I really don't like the majority of the style of HL2 maps out there, most of the good mappers don't seem to be making good old DM maps anymore...

Always making these docks or sub stations rather than spinkee labs or random death arenas. I miss the old days- HL2 is too limiting...

I agree to some extent. I've played alot of hl2:dm maps and most of them are very much alike.

But I never really liked to doom style maps of death match. I
like the player to feel like they are in a place that could really
exist. Locked doors, blocked streets, etc. just so the player
knows that there is something outside the level and not just in some
boxed in place.

Looking nice so far. Could possibly benefit from more detail on the walls etc. The architecture is there, but looking a little sparse. Needs more pipes and stuff.

Doom 3 cheated with the plasti-mapping for detail, but I think you might need to add some detail with brushwork for HL2.

The outside area looks ace. Nice sense of depth with the bridge in the background - is it an accessible area?

Yup, its a drop-off boarding bridge for combine ships... though theres not gunna be one there. As for the walls, they are already filled with stuff, I suppose you have to walk around it to see it though.
