All I know is that it's been a horrible weekend for me, having been deprived of Snarkpit. Let's hope it doesn't happen again.

But what caused all the consumption? Too many members? Outside linking with pits? cough

I think its kind of funny, even though I didn't enjoy the site being down, because this would have only been a very temporary bandwidth block, taking that the new month just started (I'm assuming UK time, because it's still Feb. 29th here).

The off chance of it being a leap year caused the bandwidth to be exceded or it made it so that it wouldn't come back for an extra day . . .

Anyway, it would have sucked more if the bandwidth was exceeded in the middle of the month....

Also, don't the pit user's sites count against the pit's overall bandwidth limit?

I was quite taken aback, but as I've just got FFX-2 and Ico for my PS2, I wasn't gonna be around here much anyway

I've been trying to get a copy for quite some time but never found it anywhere, including online (people who stock it are ALWAYS out of stock!), but I stumbled across a second hand copy in Game the other day so snapped it up. Loving it so far - sometimes its a bit annoying that you don't know WHY you are flicking switches until you've flicked them and so on, but the style of the game is breathtaking and its worth playing just to take in the view!

Absolutely stunning graphically, quite possibly the best on the PS2 when you get those marvelous outdoors views.

I'm not sure what caused it to be honest, I thought it was people coming here for a PAK editor (the main file extensions website http://www.filext.com fowards people here for PAK files) but the access logs seem to tell me that a lot of people have visited looking for COD maps... Dunno, anyway I'm trying to sort it out for this month, but the hosts are being a bit slow at replying.

Remote linking from pits was actually disabled ages ago, but still people seem intent on having a box with a red X in it as their forum avatar :/

How much bandwidth does this site use a month?

And how much could you save by, for example, removing all the vowels from all the text on the site?

mght b n t smthng.

Lep already posted it, 2gb. Also, lowering the text amount wouldn't really lower the bandwidth used. (and I know you were joking).
I just wish I had a faster connection, like a T3 or something, then I'd host sites out of my server...sigh but I cannot get that type of connection, nor do I have the money, yikes.

[Comment to below]
Oh, oh well, it's 2gb now.

Actually the site bandwith used to be 10gig and Lep just upgraded it to 20. So Horn, the site goes through about 10 gigs a month.

Does any of that get used up (alot) by dead profiles? large PM inboxes? lots of stuff in our pits? all the graphics to the site?

This is bandwidth, not disk space that ran out. In other words, stuff buried on the site which no one is looking at shouldn't make much of an impact - unless someone's going around looking at all the dead profiles. I could see the gallery of horror accounting for an increase of some sort.

Compared to maps being downloaded the gallery wouldn't have that much of an effect. Back in the day, some posts had as many screenshots as there are pictures in the gallery.

It's not the gallery, but possibly due to this PAK file thing. Shouldn't happen again until HL2 comes out and this place gets really popular though

Don't worry, I'm sure Snarkpit will be as big as... Something really big, someday. Then we'll all leave from the huge amount of "n00bs" for another community. It's the circle of life!

Yeah, but Yak, if you wanted to be a God, hang around the Steam forums for about a day . . . it's that easy, If you can tolerate all those, well Noob is too nice of a word . . . . morons on the steam forum, then you truly are God.

The last time I checked back there (because there are a few who aren't the dolts of the lot) and I almost ripped my eyes out . . . it's painful to read the messages people put up there.

But I'm sure if the pit ever became that big you could issue an enterence exam . . . and allow membership based on the scores, however all the current members would be good to go . . .we could even make up the questions in private polls

Yeah I know I'm putting way too much thought into that, anyway, continue.

I can deal with newbie mappers, not those morons. I would drone on and on like "Back in my day we didn't have server-side prediction, and pings below 250 were considered good..." and get called a dumbass nub or whatever the f**k the lexicon is today.

I'm more of an old softie for hating anime stories. One has to admit though, they have the capacity to be very touching - when one is watching that episode of Pokemon where Pikachu leaves Ash, and one is in the fourth grade, that is.

As a general rule of thumb, hate what people do, don't hate what people are. Western society since Greece has had a thing for the concept of 'flawed personalities' - that one is too proud, too shy, too immature, et cetera, and, especially these days, tends to focus on who people are and how that influences their actions instead of how they think and how that influences their actions.

Alright, then why do you hate things I post?
I mean, I'm not pissed or anything like that, I just find it an odd coincidence that my comments are ridiculed by you on many occasions when there is really no need. This would also lead you to believe I can't take some humor, but I can see no sign that you're joking or even remotely close to it.
All in all it?s no big deal, it?s just your choice in wording is very ambiguous to your meaning.
