Yeah, that chopper looks cool.
That gun in the 2nd pic, it looks like an MP7-PDW.

Oooh that looks positively lovely that does  Even easily mappable areas like that shown in screenshot 4 (ignoring the background!) turn out looking nice. Level design for this should be fun

Although, the shadows are a bit funny in the 1st pic- the combine soldiers are casting them, but the trees/pole/buildings don't seem to be...

That helicopter looks damn cool, and better than the flying walrus one that was in the videos. Here's hoping the delay lets them crank out tons of cool stuff.

That will be a combine helicopter, the walrus thing would have been an alien one probably (though there were combine soldiers around that scene...maybe I'm wrong). It looked too organic and alive to be combine, which come across as more technical.

I might need to have an upgrade over summer, and I'll certainly need to sort out this odd problem of not being able to install DX9

I know for sure it wont run on my vid card. Its a MX series and they dont have pixel shaders. AND... its in a PCI slot.
Well, maybe I'll get a job this summer and save some cash. The vid card is the only thing I really need now.
Anybody can give a ruff estimate to the game's system requirements?
And ReNo, I think most people here will need to upgrade for HL2.

I'm using a GF4 MX 440 SE which basically has nothing. But I don't intend to upgrade either. I suppose I'll miss out on the reflections and bumpmapping and whatnot. As long as I can play the game...

You wont be able to play the game. Its like Deus Ex 2. If you try running it, it wont let you cause the MX dosent have pixel shaders. Unless Im missing something?

HL2 and Doom3 will be the first two games that I won't be running at the minimum possible settings, but I'm definately waiting for the game to come out and some benchmarks to become available before upgrading. The old magazine scans from maximumPC say that HL2 will run on the original GeForce, so I imagine that in theory, it should let you run it on a GeForce4mx.

God you guys! You love HL so blindly you don't realise the truth. HL2 is dissapointing, its bog standard graphics. Released in september it would have blown the world away, but please, Stalker...
Stalker has an advanced weather engine, and it looks good, HL2 doesn't even cast shadows from { textures ffs! Look at the fences, no shadows. The graphics are just as good as Splinter Cell lol!
If you wanna see a good game I advise you try and find out more about the game Gearbox are anouncing... they released 5 screenshots of oh so goodness. When they were loading I thought they were photos!

Myrk, HL2 isnt just about its graphics etc. Its also because it IS Half-Life 2 that some of us want it.

Not features fraggy... the game itself. Is why MX's wont run DX2. But I can only guess for HL2. So as I said, we'll have to wait t'ill the system requirements are released. As they will say what cards are not supported.

I agree with Myrk that the graphics are going to be just average when the game comes out, comparing it to FarCry or Stalker, but what these games definately don't do as well as HL2 is the facial animations. Valve has said these make a big difference to the gaming experience, but we will have to see how much of an impact they really have.

Stalker looks cool, and I'm looking forward to it, but I don't see why that means you have to put down HL2. I'm actually incredibly fed up with Myrk's repetitive whining about it being some shoddy piece of crap - you have played a leaked version man, stop thinking you know all about the damn game. Sure, some scenes here don't look breathtaking, but in general it looks damn nice, and in a more realistic sense than seen in games such as Far Cry (yes its lovely, but still fake looking). Besides, if its just graphics you care about, why the hell are you still hanging around with the HL modding scene?

Reno I dis cus no one else does. Can't have a 1 sided argument, and HL2 has gotten too big for its boots  I'm just trying to show people the other view, cus it seems that everyones just captivated by this bog standard game that no ones played

Magasin scans arent all that illegal. well, depending. If they are made to show images no, but if they also are contrasted enough to let others read the whole mag online then yes.

i'm drowning in my own drool over the screenies. please help me.
I also saw a Creative Labs demo video (not in the E3 demo), a new e, called Tunnels. ordon fights off a few manhacks (flying sawblade robots) and then locks the remainder of them behind a steel door. Then gordon goes into a side tunnel and kills a combine. then he sets another one on fire with an incendiary nade launcher. then he dropdown and meets ALyx who goes :" Hope u didnt have trouble finding me..." then a combine drops down from somewhere, landing in a cool smus-like pose. then the hydra impales him and smacks him on the ground several times. the end.

PS I almost forgot. I would rather have Valve spend a whole year working on content, gameplay, and story then wasting their time making an engine cast shadows from a f**king chainlink fence.

Who cares about graphics. Want super-realistic, real-life graphics? Go outside. Half-life 2 offers much more than a pretty face. It seems to offer a variety of style, and content, rather than making levels full of polygons and labeling it a game. People these days are so distracted by how much prettier games have gotten that they havent noticed the fact that playing them is like stabbing yourself in the balls...What made Half-Life so compelling was its robust single-play story line, its online frag-fest of multiplayer, and its moddable content which kept it alive till this day. The reason I cant wait for Half-Life2 is because its just Half-Life 1, repackaged and suped up a lot for our pleasures. Just thinking of all my ideas from Half-Life 1 that couldnt be modded, but now can be in Half-Life2 is mind blowing.
To make it short: f**k graphics; give me fun gameplay.
