Okay so all of you might know valve released Counter Strike: source beta version via steam (sorry to all you steam dislikers) to peopel who have bought the valve premere package (what I did) or to anyone who got CS:CZ, but when im playing the game I must say....OHH WOW Half Life 2 is going to be great. Just getting a look at what the source engine can do makes me confident that Half-Life 2 is going to be great. Not only have the graphics improved, but also the interactivity, now you can shoot a barrel (big deal right?) and take cover behind it! So to all of you who havent experenced it.....your missing out on a major scale. The only significant downside to this currently is the lag (probably due to the shere amount of people downloading) and the drop in fps (not so much to where I cared). Also the "demo" as I like to call it has a hardware benchmarking tool on it, it takes you through the area with the glass window of gordon in the e3 2003 HL2 video and gives you an average fps (mine was 29.9). I suggest getting this if possible to see where you stand on runing HL2 when it comes out.

I take it dust is the only map available? Also has anyone noticed any serious bugs within source? /jealousy

Not really, since, I doubt they really worked on source until the engine was 100% complete. And then, even after that they took cs 1.6 code and changed the weapon values and thats about it. I mean, it isn't CS2 or anything.

It would be better if they gave 2 maps or more instead of one.

Sorry by source I meant the engine. I noticed in a screenshot here that there was a barrel going into a cinderblock.

I'm leaving work early today so I can have a play with it (CS:Source...not it, you dirty minded sods  ).
Would have been able to play last night had it not been for US Wednesday = some time Thursday for UK
It's a shame they haven't released the editor yet, I mean, they have the Source engine out now so why stop people from mapping (or at least starting to map and get a grip with what the engine is capable of).

Looking round the map in spectator mode gives the impression that levels are built exactly the same way as HL1 too which is a big plus

Yeah, definately looks promising. Might be able to just dive in and negate a lot of the learning curve altogether.

Well the nice details such as the tree tops and the high detials (wires, Dome tops ect...) All this is made with a sorta teliportation recorder kinda thingy liek the sky box is the place were it shows these things its very hard to explain but off to teh side of the map are teh outside ground of dust and it has all the houses and hold a few other things and its all very small maybe a 1 in 15 to 20 scale of the original this is so that it doesnt cause a major lagg issue in graphics similar to bump mapping in a different way you should all try this out get CS source and create shortcut on desktop go to properties on it put in -console and then apply. after so load it up and type in sv_cheats 1 then load up the map and type in noclip when u move around outside the box you will see this littel thing looking liek land with a whoel in teh middle that right there is the thing im talking about.
I just wanted to fill your minds with some info i discovered a bit ago..... as if you guys didnt know if you already know this ohh well.....

Also, you wouldn't have to be in the Russian army. The Cold War has made the AK47 the most common assault rifle in the world (and China has discovered it can make money selling it, ensuring that it will remain common. WOOT!), followed by the M16.

You can see brush entities easily enough, if you make them obscenely
huge and bind multiple brushes into them. VIS will get confused and
will just decide to "always" render it. So, you could have, say, flying
birds and such in the skybox!

Is it me, or have 'wrecked cars' become the new crates? It seems like almost every single shot of HL2 / CS:S has a wrecked car in it.

The HL2 preload will become active on Monday, and it will only have things like textures and sounds, things that definately will not be changed. It won't be the whole game. It's already been delayed from yesterday, but that's because all of the CS:S preloading was eating the Steam bandwith, and instroducing a universal HL2 preload would just kill the network.

Personally if I actually buy a game, I like to have the box and an actual disc. Not that the steam method is much of an option for me on 56K at the moment

Same here, But, unless you pay online you can still buy the game box and all at a retailer and enter in the key under steam and your preloaded copy becomes playable.
I'm sure installing from the cd will just copy the GCF file (along with other crap) to your steam folder, so that's probably what you'll do (Because you're buying this game, Jeff ... I know where you live)
