Had a blast nite on my server.  Plenty of downloaders and peeps blasting away.

So much fun there, even with all the downloads, pings were very very good.

Now, why would so many people play on my server which runs nothing but custom maps of mine, when my maps suck so bad?  Don't make a lot of sense, does it?

And ya'd think that if only my "groupies" liked my maps, they would have them all....then what's up with so many people downloading them?  hmm..and this happens every single nite!!  hmm!

Let's let the picture speak for itself:

No, I have to agree it doesn't make a lot of sense.  I can't imagine what the reason might be....hmmm....thinks

Oh yes, I remember now!

People have no taste.

Honestly Doc, what do you expect us to say?  How about, "I used to think your maps were crap, but now I see that screenshot, I've changed my mind"?

I actually think that some of your maps are quite good.  I also think you have never lived up to your potential, because you are sloppy and lazy.

But regardless, this is no place for ego wars.  Take your insecurities somewhere else.

Look, all of you!  See the many faces of DocRock!  See how mutable he is.  Apprehend his inconsistency and learn.

Here I am DocRock;
Yet cannot hold this visible shape

If you wish to fool people, you must learn to control your emotions.  They give the lie to your public persona.  You are too easily manipulated and deserve to be exposed.

Fool

Hey, ya sound just like your older, jealous brother, Orpheus.

You really really do.

Shame he's out driving a bus today.  I'd really like to see him rant on and on about stuff, then say /outta here

and be back the next line down.

I'm suprised you haven't tried to impress me with your big words and ultimate entity knowledge of maps.

You guys are really really pathetic.

You don't know me, so don't pretend that you do, Gollum oh wise entity man.

Damn this is sickening.

Bless his heart, but I don't sound anything like Orpheus.  He's a good guy but he doesn't know how to manipulate you like I do.

The best part is that I hardly have to say anything to provoke you.  All the insecurities, the bitterness and jealousy are coming out now.

You know that it is a tactical error to reveal this infomation.  But you just can't control yourself.  Honestly Doc, I thought you would be more of a challenge.  Perhaps I overestimated your intellect.

You have a lot of talent.  You are one of the very few truly creative mappers.  I wish I could have helped you to develop your talent, rather than becoming a focus for your insecurity.  I would have loved to see the amazing maps you might have made, if you had cared more about quality and less about your ego.

You know, I think you could have been the best HL mapper ever.  I would be proud to have been even a small part of those maps.

Ok, out right bragging is just lame on all fronts. Gollum posts his map up in the map section, but he doesn't ever attempt to throw it in everyone else's face.

Also let me be the first to point out half the people in the server still busy dl'ing the map haven't actually seen it yet.

Well, I think it is quite funny that Doc's arrogant side has suddenly flared up, like some seasonal rash.  I always had given him the benefit of the doubt, when witnessing these arguments between he and Orph.  I felt that Orph was a little foolish (and still do) to keep coming back to the same circular argument - and seemed to be more of the antagonist.  Now I see the pattern of this relationship come full circle, and where the spark originates.

I can't say that Doc's maps 'suck' as apparently alot of people seem to like them.  I can say, however, that they do not appeal to MY taste visually, or gamewise, and I am willing to bet that there is a certain 'crowd' that feels the same way.  I have NEVER seen any hardcore halflife players boasting about the gameplay of DocRock maps.

Either be happy with the audience you have, or try to broaden your  horizons (skills, style) and gain more fans.  You are a fool, and a narcissist, however to think you can win one side, by boasting about the other.  All this does is cause more of a rift....but maybe that's what you want.  The more extreme people react to you, the easier it is to disregard them as 'irrational'.

I think Exentia is one of Doc's best maps.  The dual theme works well and some of the architecture is very good.

The teleporters are particularly spinkee, I recall!

Indeed, I only found 2 things wrong with it.  1 misaligned texture... no biggy, and the xen part looked somewhat "simple".  But it was fun to play on.

the saddest part is, even when i am gone, doc tries to pull me into his fights

at one time, i had doc on a pedestal almost as high as my mentor jeff meyer... its sad, when your hero falls so far..

ask around doc, if you have the balls... i used to post every new map you made, and brag about them... right here at SP..

i am almost ashamed to admit that now..

This is in the wrong forum.

And Dock, you're right, a lot of people do find your maps fun to play as is obvious from this. That doesn't change the fact that they're pretty s**ttily made, which I think is what most of us here have against you. So you're halfway, but I don't get why you don't bother making a proper effort, because if you did you could make some awesome maps.

its pretty self explanatory but,

1) people of like minds tend to congregate..

2) snarkpit is fair, but for the most part pretty rigid in its values..

3) it is pretty clear what those values entail without rehashing them.

4) your maps are pretty popular, but not here..

5) make maps befitting the environment you are in, if you want our approval, make one by our standards..

6) if you don't need our approval, then that portion of your goal is assured already..

7) we value fun in maps, we do not feel it is in the same league of importance as you do.. an ugly map, cannot be fun to play, a map without good connectivity cannot be fun to play, am map with to many items cannot be fun to play, a map with r_speeds over 1000 cannot be fun to play.. see the pattern?

we are not seeking out your maps, you are bringing them to us... there's where you erred, if you want our approval, bring us maps, we would approve of.. its that simple..

we have mappers here with 1/10 your experience, 1/100 of your reputation, but 5 times your skill at a finished product..

thats as plain as it gets, no harsh words, no hidden intent.. if you want peace, stop thinking your way is the only way.. if thats what you want, make a "doc pit website"

make your own rules, where you can control them.. here we have few rules, but they are ones we like, and intend on keeping, your maps do not easily fall into our rules..

plain enuff?

that last shot looks pretty good doc. Gameplay would flow quite well if the player can get across the rooftops. Its difficult to make rooftops look any good though, Often you end up with a plain grey flat surface.

Orph:
So basically you're saying:

It's the SnarkPit way's of mapping, or it's the highway?

okey, my bags are packed.  You won't see another map of mine here unless someone else brings it here.

you deliberately misquote my intent..

you asked how we prefer maps, not how they must be to be a member..

i would love to see you gone, but i refuse to let you leave because you are pouting..

snarkpit embraces all mapping, but refuse to acknowledge them in the same light you do..

my maps are popular, to some, it does not mean i would remove them if no one cared..

you could map correctly, you just chose not to.. if you want our approval, make maps we would approve of.. i cannot say it any other way..

you don't need or require our approval to be here.. all you have to do is accept, your current style, is not as popular as you would have it be..

leave, or stay, i don't give a rats ass, but do so because you chose to, dont try to pawn it off on me..

There's many times you misquote my intent as well, which is why we don't get along...

you know what tho...f**k it.  I'm sick n tired of the stupidity of trying to explain myself to you or make a map for someone to show I can make progress...it doesn't matter.

What matters in life is to be happy.  To be content and not have to worry about being killed on the highway by some murderer who likes to kill for fun...no I don't fear that, I'm just using it as an example.

There are more important things in life than the Valve Hammer editor and making a map with it...or to impress your "friends" by how well you keep the rspeeds in check or the epolies in a certain spot or not have split faces, or no leaks, or textured lighting...

I'm at a spot right now in my life where I am the most content I've ever been.  I don't need to show you guys I can do better maps, because it don't matter..it's just a free program off the internet...lol

I can't apologize to you guys if you don't like my style.  I won't change to adhere to the snarkpit style of approved mapping...and I know you're not asking me to change.
I'm just so sick n tired of the bashing and the immaturity..and I know I am just as guilty as the next guy.

I wish we all could get along...but I know it will never happen, so I will stfu now.

until next time...happy mapping.

i cannot rightly "speak" for everyone, but my words are very much the concensus...

some of our most patient, forgiving, and quiet members posted within this thread yesterday.. you went OTT, and the fact that they said anything at all says alot..

your maps, are yours, we just fail to see them in the same venue that you want them to be..

should you alter your maps for us?

nope.

should you require our advice?

nope.

but, if you want our outlook on them to alter, you might consider posting them in beta form.. after-all, you have shown no inclination to "FIX" any defects we point out afterwards..

we value your maps, just not as much as others may..

if a map of yours, is posted for advice, you will get it, no matter how well you receive it, and no matter if it wasn't you who brought it to our attention... any map posted on snarkpit, is open for debate, feelings, or reputation of the author, are not a factor...

i never reached my current level of skill, by being  placated, you will never improve till you stop requiring it from others..

thats about as clear as anyone can make it.. i can only hope, a portion of it penetrates that mantle you have firmly placed between us, and yourself..

My thoughts exactly.

I think I've finally found someone who's ego can measure up to mine, and then some.

If I may put it frankly, Doc, you stupid son of a bitch, your kind of pride is very interesting. Interesting strictly in the sense that you are married to/macking with/are currently stalking a stripper and spend a good part of your time online in the desperate attempt to prove that you are better and have a bigger c**k than all other mappers that might oppose you, neither of which are remotely close to the truth.

That, and you go on about your skill at an art you neither appreciate nor understand, or even try to improve at. One day you may realize, that the skill of mapping is to not have a bunch of pizza faced twelve year olds giggle over something you knocked up for a couple of hours. Any stupid f**k can look at killbox or fy_iceworld and see that (but as they say, love is blind, especially when you're whacking off looking in the mirror, Doc). I could never begin to explain the art of level design to you, and that's not even a holier-than-thou overstatement; when you refuse to believe that a good map requires you to learn how to f**king map first, there is precious little even I can do.

So, Doc, guess what: I hear your overinflated head opening it's mouth already, and I think you already know that any of the garbage that's about to spew out of it will not mean a god damned thing to a soul at the Snarkpit, much less a single person on the earth.

A map's quality is not proportional to the amount of people playing it.

Because you say it is good, because your bitch wife says it's good, does not mean that it is good. And none of the fine gentleman who spend their days trying to suck your dick have very meaningful opinions either.

Even if you spent your whole life working on a map, if it's s**tty, it's s**tty.

And we will tell you when it is, and congratulate you when it isn't. If you're too good to be questioned, find something else to do, instead of sobbing over in the corner like an attention whore when we periodically realize you're a dick.

No, there are no completed maps on my profile. No, they obviously are not played online. I myself can tell you that half of a single one of my maps, of the maps of anyone who reads this, is worth twice everything you've ever made.

If Orph won't speak for everyone, I will, when I say

FUCK YOU, DOC.

And if Lep or Orph or Gwil or Gollum or anyone doesn't like me being so mean, or will lock this thread because of me, then please ban me while you're at it, because I won't be able to stand looking at this place anymore.

Nobody seems to have mentioned that 11 out of those 24 players in the screenshot are bots... And bots that seem to have been added for the shot since they haven't died or killed anything.
Those are people dl'ing the map, not bots. Bots have a ping of 5.

Ya know, Cass, I don't give a flying f**k if you talk about my maps, ok, but talking about my wife was entirely uncalledfor.

You owe her an apology.

When it starts getting personal, it's time to lock the thread, please.

bringing your wife into this was a bit OTT, but..

knowing cassius, and you doc, i can at least relate to it..

getting personnel, never stopped you tho, if i recall, you accused me of child something or another, cause i drive busses??

and worse..

just because i have not brought it up, your compulsion over your wifes origins, is a bit OTT as well, but IMO has no place in this thread..

give cass a chance, he might edit it out, cause.. the rest of his message, is dead on right.. and even not, it is "within" his rights to say it..

The most popular custom Half-Life deathmatch map is killbox.

The most popular custom Counter Strike map is fy_iceworld.

People have no taste. End of discussion.

and i am not a pedophile, so whats your point exactly?

we don't need to know, or care about it really doc..

your wife may be a saint, but what you have caused us, is not, from my standpoint, she may have inadvertently done it to us...

but thats beside the point..

forum etiquette says " leave your personal life out of a forum, if you cannot take it being unacceptable information to someone"

still...i support cass, and always will over you, BUT the wife thing was wrong.. i can support cass and still see wrong..

There is absolutely no justification for insulting "KitKat".  So far as I know, no-one here (apart from Doc, obviously) has ever communicated with her in any way.  How, then, are we supposed to know anything about her at all?

Just because she's Doc's wife doesn't make her a "bitch".

Cassius: tear into Doc all you like, but leave KitKat alone.  I think Doc deserves much of the criticism you've given, but KitKat most certainly does not.

I agree with Doc here: you owe her an apology.  Alright, so she may not ever read these boards, but I still think it would be the right thing to do.

As an aside, note that you don't have to like someone to believe he's in the right.  Fairness is a virtue; But it's only a negative virtue/Until it is tried by fire.

lol you two, you both love this really. Doc half your threads end up a flame war so you must know it's going to happen when you post. Orph you always turn 1/4 of docs threads into flame wars, you must love it to. I think it's all a big cover up and Orph in fact is kitkat, and this is all a big hoax to try and make the rest of us look silly.
