What's the most popular file sharing application with young folk these
days? I usually use torrents, but sometimes I'm after a particular
song. I was searching for a Johnny Cash song (yeah, the one from Dawn
Of The Dead) and only got one result with Kazaa lite.

On a slightly related note, does anyone happen to know what the song
playing is when the black evangelist appears on tv and talks about the
dead walking the earth?

Thanks.

Not without watching the film, I couldn't help you on the second
question  As for file sharing, the naughty naughty activity that it
is, I personally use Soulseek - never have a problem with it, although
some claim it is the devils own creation.

Produces results consistently for me, from Erasure, to the Animals back down to the Chemical Brothers.

http://www.slsk.org[removed  ] i think the website is :/ not entirely sure though, be on google liek

If I had broadband I'd probably be using DC++ and Kazaa lite.

Cheers guys. I'm getting soulseek now, and I'll try the others if
that's not to my liking. The site is http://www.slsknet.org/ I'd take
down that link you posted Gwil, it's in german and nearly had me using
one of those dialers that cost 4 euro a minute. Don't want anyone
slightly stupider than me actually doing it. (I ripped out my internet
cable in a panic  )

I use SoulSeek, it's a good app for getting obscure stuff.

I never understood how SoulSeek hasn't been shut down. It's the only service that uses a central server, and that along with it's name makes me a bit suspicious of it.

I use eMule.

i tried emule, it refused to connect, because i was behind my router.. there may be a cure for this, but.. i figure if its requires my setting something up special just to use it, they can get screwed..

i predominantly use torrent, but i care little for music acquisition, which torrent is not the best method of doing so,so it suits me.. if i need music, i use kazaa lite.

it's because it's not as well known as you think. And that the RIAA think they can shut down p2p by only going after Kazaa.

Well until I get the internet in my flat I won't be using anything. When I do I'll use DC++... I've heard good things about it from my flatmate.

Limewire (basic version) although lately there have been some problems connecting to the network. But other than that this network has been great for looking for music.

I use Shareaza, which I think would be the best file sharing utility if everyone was on it. But, since so few are, I also use that bitch of a memory hogger, K++ to get results fast.

Of course, my system has steadily declined into a state of anarchy over the course of this year ever since I installed gAyOL Instant Messenger, and the stupid fags that rename files are responsible for it (On top of me downloading them though in the first place).

Also, the ISP I'm on (Rogers) has a policy that they will not disclose any information on one of their customers, nor allow any line tapping. So I don't need to worry about some idiot riding a horse to smash in.

If it does I didn't notice it, it just contains some ads that they put on your desk top, but just delete them and your golden. But I just remembered that you need to instal Java runtime for it to work.

Orph, you just have to set up port forwarding in your router configuration pages. Emule sucks for occasional use, but if you leave it for while and get a nice highID, it's the mutt's nuts IMO. Ports 4666-4667 should be forwarded to the machine running emule.

Pretty much, although it's not as good as it used to be with the combination of Share Reactor. I use the aptly named Warez P2P. It's been fast and has had 0 junk files out of 22 so far. I went and tried all of the other mentioned programs both recently and a long time ago and none of them ended up being as good as this one.

There was a DC++ set-up for just my campus back during the spring and I found it a very useful app. Can search video too (got myself about half of Clone High and a fistful of Upright Citizen's Brigades).

speaking of which, i have to hand it to torrent, i have dloaded perhaps 20-30 gigs of stuff, with zero bad files.. my only complaint, waiting days and finding out is a spanish, italian, or some other version

torrent gets my vote on shear accuracy.

I think it's very hard to get no bad files ever. Foreign versions that aren't labeled as such are pretty common - if you were in france, would you refer to 'I Robot' as 'I Robot - French version'?

I never understood though why people will take a film, and rename it to something completely different? Who does this help... all it does is waste their upload bandwidth sending files that people don't even want D:

i suppose you're right, since the end of time hasn't occurred yet.. but torrent has some sort of a file checking system, that continuously scans what you have received, vs. what they have, and will redownload any bad portion... course, if someone uploaded a faulty file, you would receive it in pristine condition, but just as faulty..

let us hope torrent continues to provide such accuracy

Yeah I meant bad as in not the file you thought it was. Long gone are the days when you would get a file that was just corrupted

Because some people like to be f**s.

Speaking of which, I've tried downloading a recent city simulation game since April. I have downloaded the 600-1200 meg file/files a good 12 times since then. I still do not have the game.
But I did recieve a large quantity of other games, many of which didn't work, one or 2 of which were actually good. Still don't have the game I was after.

Of course he is A_S. I doubt anyone on the SP community would attempt to get ahold of something like that otherwise.

Soulseek is great because not very many people know about it, but those that do tend to have tons of songs. The best of both worlds, really.

You know what is really cool about soulseek ? They have some kind of
e-record company that hosts albums from unknown artists ... totally
free for download. If you're looking for some good
ambient/lounge/electronical/chill-out music ... it's the place to be:

http://www.soulseekrecords.net/gods/index.php

I would recommend New Delhi FM - Far from Yesterday.
