Not to be a jerk but what is the point of starting a thread just to tell everyone what song you are listening to? It seems pointless, wasteful, and it gets on my nerves that their is someone who thinks I care about their personnel life. And there is my opinion of the day.

So don't read the thread  And it's not what song, it's albums and people with similar musical tastes might take a recommendation and find something they really like...

You're completly missing the point! This thread is about giving an opinion so that like AH said people with similar musical tastes might take a reccomandation to and find something they like, we are not forcing you to read this thread and we will carry on giving our comments on bands which in our opinion are good/bad.

Getting back on topic...

Obtained Rammstein's new album ("Reise, Reise"), and it's fantastic, as expected. The language barrier is a bit more evident this time around; you can tell they're putting more emphisis on lyrics now, so all the German might be a bit off-putting on some songs. But musically, it's probably the best Rammstein have done. A lot more diverse than usual. Also, it seems Rammstein have finally realised subtle can work just as well as skullf**king your head aurally.

Oh, and the lyrics to Amerika are just hilarious to listen to. "We all live in Amerika, Amerika, it's wunderbar! We all live in Amerika, Coca Cola Wonderbra!"

Recommendations: Dalai Lama, Los, Amerika, Moskau

ugh, Chevelle is revolting. Send the Pain Below is one of the worst songs I have ever heard.

Kage: Don't forget Keine Lust and Mein Teil, as they are both great songs too.

This Ramstein group sounds good, I'll see if i can some aquire some of
their mp3's. I'm listening to the stereophonics first album at
the moment, which is a lot better than their latest material (this is
before they sold out) In particular track 11 "To many sandwiches" and
"more life in a tramps vest" are good tracks.

The last thing they released was St. Anger, and it wasn't exactly the best album of 2003, so I'm not really suprised no mention has been made of them...it was still pretty good though.

I just picked up a copy of Interpol's Antics CD. I really enjoyed Turn on the Bright Lights, and I was quite surprised when I started listening to Antics. TotBL is such a dark, brooding album, and Antics still has dark undertones in the lyrics, although it's masked better with quicker riffs and more intonation in the vocals.

While it's probably not going to become an overall favorite with me, there are several tracks of worth on the CD that really showcase the new 'feel' of the CD- Evil, Narc, Slow Hands, and Public Pervert to name a few.

Also, there are a few little references to the first CD (TotBL lyric - "She puts the weights into my little heart", Antics lyric - "You put the weights all around yourself") which are rather interesting, because they give a new view to whatever depression had to inspire TotBL.

Overall, not bad, but it's a huge departure from the first CD. Which is actually quite a good thing, because I don't like bands that feel they are forced to adhere to the same styles simply because they were once successful (Strokes, anyone?).

I heard that "At Doom's Gate" was based off of something they did -- I believe it was called "Master of the Puppets" ?

The only stuff that's not on there is Cake's day-old CD, The Dandy Warhols, and Slut.

The singer from Disturbed is a great vocalist, but everyone else can't
seem to keep up. Funnily enough, their best song is the one where the
vocalist is pretty much the focus (Darkness) and everyone else shuts
up.

Been listening to Reuben's album 'Racecar Is Racecar Backwards' a lot recently, and also just got the new Thirteen Senses one. Both nothing really original but they're really good...

Reuben remind me of Hundred Reasons, and for some reason, Thirteen Senses bring back memories of Catherine Wheel (yeah, I like soft stuff too...who'd have thunk it!)

Streets are terrible, for the reason that he simply puts 7-year-old poetry about getting drunk or watching TV over the top of some repetitive beat. For example:
Hmm, brandy or beer? Waters a good idea,
Wish that bar lady'd appear; and come serve over here.
Where the f**k could they be? Still not over in the corner,
This nights' a tragedy, I keep thinking I saw her.
And Dry Your Eyes? There are a million and one love songs out there which are deeper, more musical, and will touch you on a deeper level. As ever with this type of music, without the 'nice singing' in the chorus (courtesy of some unnamed sample), I don't think people would listen to this sort of vacuous cack at all :/ Only type of rap I can stand is Goldie Lookin' Chain, because they just take the constant piss out of it all and because there is some intelligence deep underneath!

Apparently I didn't start a trend with playlists. Thus, I conform to the strange masses by listing some songs I've got that I love to bits (but it's not really love because I want them for their money... whatever)

Cake - Wheels (It's Cake for Christ's sake... my favorite song on their new album.)
Slut - Ground (Indie rock, lovely lovely tune.)
The Dandy Warhols - Get Off (The Dandy Warhols for Christ's sake! AND it's about getting off! Truly wonderful.)

I've also snagged a bunch of Reise Reise... it's still good, just they've gone downhill IMO. Amerika and Ohne Dich are killer tracks.

And yes, Disturbed's good. Much better than that Killswitch Engage nonsense

For all you metalhead types out there, get some stuff from 8 Foot Sativa, namely Chelsea Smile and Hate Made Me. Excellent New Zealand heavy metal band.

I'm also a fan of $loth's signature

I don't really like the lyrics of both songs, but the synth beat on
"Lights are blinding ..." is pretty ok, and the violin-sample on "Dry
Your Eyes" is good too.

Of course there are a lot of better love songs ...

Billy Joel - Just The Way You Are

Elvis Presley - The Wonder Of You

The Beatles - And I Love her

So Cold sucks ass, and can't hold a candle to Polyamorous. It's like Breaking Benjamin felt that there was more money in becoming more nu metal so they shat out that song. It's tuneless and grating, like most of what is played on current rock stations. I had some hope for them as I liked some of their early stuff, but this just isn't good.

I've never heard a good Breaking Benjamin's song but that's because I've only heard whatever crappy song they play on the radio.

I don't know if anyone read this original post, but I didn't like Reise Reise... listening to it for the 4th time, I do like it... crazy.

Never even heard of these 'Breaking Benjamin' bods (that a good or bad thing? )

I don't personally like Rammstein, but my dad loves 'em for some reason! He usually listens to stuff like Mark Knopfler and James Taylor, but one Xmas asked me to get him Rammstein's album (Mutter), and the Xmas after that I had to get him Laibach.

This is years after him telling me that all the music I listen to is crude bollocks too!

Hugh- so, how is the new Cake album? I loved Fashion Nugget, but never really got too into Comfort Eagle. But the clip that I've heard from Crude Chief (I think it was "No Phone") sounded like a throwback to Fashion. So, how does it stand up in comparison?

Pressure Chief*. And I think it kicks ass myself, whatever that means. I've listened to both Fashion Nugget and Comfort Eagle and can't remember which is which since I don't actually have them myself, but their new one's definitely good.

Currently I am listening to:

Story of the Year

Trapt

Thursday

Funeral For a Friend

Matchbook Romance

and ... Kingskin (Kerrang 2004 Best Unsigned Band)

I'm going to see Kingskin at a local gig next month too, England does produce some talent every now and then

I'm very much looking forward to the new Jimmy Eat World album next week. And recently been listening to Embrace's new offering; some very good songs at the start but it peters off a bit imho :/

At the moment I'm listening to the Fall Out Boy album "Take This To
Your Grave", and while there are a few songs which are kinda throwaway
pop-punk, a lot of it is really well done (though still pop-punk).
