Put up your hand if you have an unhealthy obsession with a fictional superhero! You did very well with those colours, I tried my hand at flatshading and eventually had to admit defeat. Nice work.

Yep, old screenshots, I added a bunch more detail since then. I will update the pics soon. Its a combo of the music, gameplay and flying that give it the superman feel...most of which you cant get from a screenshot.

LOL is the first thing I have to say about this map. Cool idea, sorta reminds me of the MrT map, but with some actual work put into the structure of the map.

Your post:

I noticed everyone had a topic open for their map...figured I would join in on the fun.

Basically, I designed the Superman map for 3 reasons:

1. Never did a standard HL DM map before and wanted to do at least 1 before D3 and HL2 came out.

2. I wanted to do a map that didnt look like everything else. So I picked red, yellow, and blue flat colors and went with the SUPERMAN theme.

3. I saw the snarkpit was having a competition and thought it would be fun. And it was. Congrats to all the other mappers who got in on it.

Other notes:

Why Superman...? 1. Christopher Reeves is the man. 2. Clark Kent is his alter ego, most other superheros are reverse. (See Kill Bill 2 for a better explanation). 3. Cause we all know Superman gets the girls...why else would he be called the MAN OF STEEL.

I put in the superman, batman, and spiderman models for your playing pleasure. Also added in waypoints for bots. also, r_speeds might get kinda high in corners since I skimped on the map optimizing. My bad...besides you should be playing Doom 3 right now anyway.

Ah, I see.

Yep, that sucks for him. I say he is the man since he was Superman when I was a kid. I think since then there was the Lois & Clark show and Smallville....never really saw either one. There is also a brand spanking new movie in the works...

But all of this doesnt have much to do with the map...except of course that its all about superman.

I thought the theme was pretty cool for what it is. I got the feeling of this being a museum to Superman, with sound bites, famous pictures, and areas where you can actually be 'Superman', all that cheesy s**t they have at crappy museums. Well pulled off theme in that sense. The texturing was kinda repetitive and lame, but it did add to that sense of it being a tourist trap. I doubt it'll make a strong DM map, however, but I didn't play it so I dunno. All in all its a decent effort.

Christopher Reeves can feel in his finger and toe tips now I believe... And hes going under the nerve treatment where ther implant stem cells into ur nervous cord in hope they'll bridge the gap so he can walk again or something, but its a while off yet I think.

Anyone else get a chance to run around in the map? Any good/bad comments?

Anyone feel like vomiting after all the bright red/yellow/blue colors? hehe.

But surely not essential to a map?

Mind you, saying that, I tend to forget i've got it when playing DM as i'm too busy concentrating on staying alive

EDIT: Regarding the map, I quite liked it, and the superman flying bit was a nice gimmick. Having shadows possibly spoilt the flat coloured look a little but it was still pretty cool  Kinda felt like I was running around a big lego fort at times too  I think that was due to the choice of colours (red, yellow and blue were more or less the standard lego colours here in the UK).

Getting the LJ should be your first priority when playing HLDM - when playing against decent opposition its your only chance of staying alive really.

yep, the layout and architecture are not all that complex. BUT, that doesnt change that fact that you CAN put on the SUPERMAN outfit and run around in TIGHTS shooting BAD GUYS with a ROCKET LAUNCHER. And you can even get a little FLIGHT TIME in there as well.

HAIL TO THE KING BABY, that would be CHRISTOPHER REEVES (aka SUPERMAN).

I bet in a few years, when he finally walks again, everyone will remember this old school DM map and how I helped keep the SUPERMAN legend alive!!!

Hmm, maybe I need sleep... nah, on second thought, I need to keep drinking!

Anyway, thank you to those who have been kind and posted their thoughts/comments. I appreciate the time you guys put into the snarkpit community.

I wish.
No, I actually dont like superman that much. But the contest called for a theme and Superman was the first thing I thought of. Sooo, I guess its a good thing that everyone keeps asking me if I am a superman nut, right? That means I got the theme across fairly well in the map. Either that or maybe I am just crazy...
excuse me, but I have to get my superman outfit outta the dryer.

Hm, if your texture limit allows it, maybe a secret room (which strips
weapons until you exit it) with an animated texture of Reeves doing the
"superman flying thing"

IMO, this map should have been the clear winner of the SP contest.

'course, this is my opinion, and I'll be flamed for it, but meh.

JMW - Well done map - very fun playable enjoyable map. I thought it was the best "themed" map of the contest.

Can't wait to see more maps from you ^^

Orph, shut up. Doc is perfectly entitled to his opinion; I thought it had a pretty damn good 'twist' to it and if it had been made "a bit better" then it could have won (quite how I don't know, but that's not my job  )

Agreed with the: 'if this map were done a bit better' part. If I knew Christopher Reeves, (SUPERMAN), was going to pass away, I would have put much more time into it.

The r_speeds kick up in the corners due to my skimping on the tweaking of the layout. ...This would be my main complaint if I were reviewing it. BBBUUUTTTTT, IT HAS SUPERMAN ALL OVER IT, SO ALL IS FORGIVEN!!!! Besides, this is my first novelty map...and the ONLY superman map that I know of. errr...there might be one in that old superhero mod for hl...not sure...

As for what Ive been doing, check www.jmwrightdesigns.com for more info.

CHRISTOPHER REEVES FOREVER!!!!
