A mod without a story will not attract a lot of mappers/skinners ..

We (your adoring public) know next to nothing about this mod. And
your website doesn't help much either. Basic information, like
single-player or multi-player, isn't even there. All I see are a few
unskinned model renders and some news posts. Please put more
information up so people can make a decision to join or not.
And please respect our forum members more in the future. You are the ones who are coming and asking for help, not us. Thanks.

Man - what the hell us up with people in this forum? When I registered I missed the part where it asked if you were an elitist ass-hole. If you want to join a mod team, email us for details. If you don't, ignore us. It's that simple.

I am not trying to be a prick or anything and I will be the first to
admit that I am not the most talented person. But I have been on the
modding forums for over 5 years and I know what kind of jerks and smart
asses post replies.
I dont really care if I piss anyone off... We are looking for people
who are serious. So if you are serious then you can email us and we
will discuss the mod in private. We are not ready to publicly tell
everyone our ideas just to get them ripped off.

DigiChaos: If you've been around the modding block, you would have noticed that very few mods actually get completed, and of those that are completed, very few are actually good.
There's a lot of talent here, and with the right attitude, you'll easily get people to work for you. Please, don't expect people to jump at the chance of working for a mod. Most people here have already seen the fate of mods that start of with enthusiasm, but dont get too far. I'm not saying this will happen to your mod, but lots of folks want more data of what exactly is happening before they are willing to commit.
Take this as you will, but I intended it as just a bit of advice. Your ideas usually won't get ripped off by anyone, so at the very least you need to give people a storyline.
What we have now is very little. You have model renders, and a general Urban Conflict setting. But people need more details. Is it single player, multi player, or both? Is it team based or deathmatch style? Does it have something unique? What, exactly, is unique? Do you have a clear plan of development for the mod? How big do you expect this will be? When do you realistically plan to complete?
Please, most smart asses who post have a valid reason for being smartasses, and the actual smartasses havent even started posting yet.

And we're not trying to be a prick collectively, either. It's just that we get quite a few people who flit in here and post things asking people to join mods, and it's really quite hard to determine if you want to work on a mod without recieving ANY information on what the mod actually entails.
However, if you were to first post something along those lines (the bit where you say we can get information if we email you) earlier, then things would have been more kosher.
Plus, Orpheus's post was something that you may not know about- it's a tiny little thing called "humor." No, I don't find it to be funny, either. But give the guy a break. This is a public forum. As they say, water off your back, man. Let that little thing slide. Don't retort with some comments saying that he's a smart-ass and that we're all elitist bastards.
Yeesh.

Yes we made cs_italy. And to reiterate, if you are interested in joining a mod team, email us for details. We have zero on our web site at this point and for good reason.

If I had a great idea for a mod and someone 'stole' it and made a great
mod, then I'd be happy I'd have a great mod to play without doing any
work. Good luck with the mod, and your attitude problems guys!

<DIV class=quotetext>My apologies glenc, forum trollism is a hard thing to beat, though there's no need for you to aggravate it either. Guys, please stop with the Mightier-Than-Thou attitude towards these mods (well, unless it's obviously some 12 year old kid who wants to make something utterly ridiculous!)</DIV></DIV>
I thought this particular one went through without any trolling at all :/. That said, ReNo and Orph make a nice "good cop, bad cop" combination

I'm no elitist, neither is Orph, far from it, but when people decide to
join a mod-team, they want to spend a lot of time to it, don't they ?
I don't want to spend a lot of time on a mod I don't even get the basic
info from. It puts me in the risk of devoting to a project I don't
really like, you see ...
And that would be bad for me, and for the mod team counting on me.

1)can someone explain the term "trolling" for me?
2)and how my replies fall into the hypocrisy end of the discussion?
i realize thats a 2 part question, but i really wanna know cause i thought i was very generous considering how the thread degraded so rapidly.
its obvious these guy's don't know what true elitism is, and they also doesn't seem to know that we do high level map critiques, hence the title "Master"
it has been my experience that elitist are anything but masters, more monsters than anything else.
still i want a definition to my two questions, before i misunderstand and decide that i was just accused of something. :/
lep, you wrote it, you define it.

I don't see how I was trolling... I just asked for more information
about the mod and more respect for forum members. Hell, I even said
"please"!
Oh well. I guess we'll just have to discourage every mod that tries to recruit here. That'll show 'em.

sighs I don't have a problem with people asking for more information or whatever; I agree this mod does seem to have the typical noob-style "we'll give you more information later but right now it's SECRET!!!1" description (in particular CJ I wasn't attacking you in any way). However, I DO get annoyed when certain members take the "oh look at my experience" attitude or somehow imply that an attack on them is somehow against unwritten forum rules... Perhaps trollism isn't the right term, but I am getting worried at the elitism that is slowly forming here

all i can say is, in times past this thread would have been locked already due to poorly thought out replies, and innuendo's. this thread went better than could have been expected, had timely intervention not occurred when it had.
most, if not all the replies were positive, yes they had some negative content, but dammit, even when discussing tumors one cannot be all rosy about the diagnosis. its expecting a bit to much to handle every new member with kids gloves, especially when they take the first poke at someone.
its also expected that a certain amount of defensiveness will occur, after all we have known each other for years. i fully expect that each of us can cope, and defend ourselves if need be, but most times it speaks 10 times clearer if others do it instead.
lep, i know you mean well, i know that you must take a stand, and yes it speaks mounds that you are defending the new member, but sometimes its best to let them swim or sink.
i will add, that if my term "Master Critiquer" is considered by majority to be an elitist title, i will lose it in a second.
most of you know, i tack on the title master off handedly to many people, because i truly feel they deserve a tiny bit of recognition.. fishy-master modeler, lep-master webmaster, gollum-master mod programmer, KFS- lucky son-of-a-bitch-level-designer-master
as i said, i apologize if my joke started all this, but i shouldn't HAVE TO
honestly, i think these two dug a hole, its up to them to decide if its to big a hole to fill, or move on.
another thing you need to consider lep, you are never going to dissuade us from uniting against a perceived threat.. as you said earlier today, learn from your mistakes.
/ 2 cents.

It is pretty obvious at this point that this approach was all
wrong. From now on we will contact people instead of trying to
reach out to the community. We currenly have enough members to get our
gameplay testing done.
Leperous, is it possible to delete this thread all together?

Both parties need to stop stoking the fire. There is a lot to be said for a flat response in terms of repairing diplomacy.
DigiChaos, I see little point in deleting the thread myself, but if you
want it gone you have to get glenC to ask - or turn it into a humongous
flame war, then it will be deleted
