Might be interesting to have a "daily average over past week" part to
the user stats alongside the total/average stats that exist. Would
probably clutter the interface a little and the name is much too
unwieldy, but it would be interesting to see how it matches up to the
average.

Color me curious (whatever that means), but how do I check the fate of my reviews? I wrote one a while ago and it's not on the page and I didn't get any message saying that it was received.

I know something like it was suggested already, but I'd like to see the
list of reviews sorted in chronological order, if that's possible.

i have noticed an annoyance, not a bug, but something that pisses me off and i assume others as well.

i have been working on these Christmas computers, and each time i get one going i update it. well while doing so i visit snarkpit, i log in but not permanently. before i can visit 3 threads and answer one, i am logged out and my message gets borked

i assume some people are on public PC's at libraries or net caf? and do not want to be permanently logged in there, so they do not check the boxes either.

can the default time be increased a bit to say 10 minutes or so ??

[edit] the log out function seems to work better than it previously did, so maybe this request is moot now. perhaps others who are on public computers have some input.

He's addressed this before, it's those computers cookie settings. Lower the security or allow the snarkpit through indefinitly.

If one attempts to post, and is greeted with the invalid/username
password + the body of their post, the "login" link on the top right is
a broken link.

Hrmm, one more comment about the reviewing system... if a reviewer isn't a moderator, they can't edit their reviews and I imagine that's why the Design and Gameplay boxes are left blank. Go to this for a look of what I mean: http://www.snarkpit.com/maps.php?map=745

I don't really know why, but Halo 2 sorta gave me a site idea.
How about, in the same vein as snarkmarks, you make an awards type
system? Users can gain awards, such as "Teacher" for writing a certain
number of tutorials, "Production Line" for having a certain number of
maps, "Old Timer" after having been a member for a certain length of
time, or "Critic" for having written a certain number of reviews. You
could even make special ones for contests or special events. These
could be represented as small icons at the bottom of their info stuff
on each post.

Perhaps its a bit much but it might encourage some of the newer users
to contribute in some site areas in order to gain these awards, as
opposed to just raising an arbitary number as with the snarkmarks.

I think it's a good idea Duncan, and probably wouldn't be too hard to code.... for a maths whiz like Lep

An option to display a users real name alongside their photo in the gallery of horror might be a nice addition.

Amen. The snarkmarks just encourage people to raise numbers through
cruder means (ie post resurrection/1/2 word replies etc) and
participation has dropped off of late in critiquing etc (I know I
haven't done as much as I could have for one).

We need something to gee up the masses and intergrate our newer members, something along these lines would do it I'd wager..

One problem that I can see is that there would no incentive to keep going once the rewards have been obtained.

Not so! Such a system can always be extended, even retrospectively. For example:

<BLOCKQUOTE dir=ltr style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px">
Bronze Teacher
Silver Teacher
Gold Teacher
And then you can add more:

<BLOCKQUOTE dir=ltr style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px">
Platinum Teacher
Diamond Teacher
And more:

<BLOCKQUOTE dir=ltr style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px">
Bronze Star Teacher
Silver Star Teacher
Gold Star Teacher
Platinum Star Teacher
Diamond Star Teacher
And more:

<BLOCKQUOTE dir=ltr style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px">
Bronze Shooting-star Teacher
Silver Shooting-star Teacher
Gold Shooting-star Teacher
Platinum Shooting-star Teacher
Diamond Shooting-star Teacher
The possibilities are endless. It could be just like E-bay's feedback system. Oh, the horror.

I have been having some trouble with the smiley system on here. Half the time when I go to click on "see all" smileys the little window will pop up but the it minimizes itself right away. I go to maximize it again and it minimizes it again. It's like its playing some kind of hide and seek with more or something. I never had this trouble on any other fourms but they may be because they were all PHP.

this may be another host related issue again, but for the past few weeks i have been having all sorts of issues with slow to no connection here at the pit.

today, the images to the map screens, some load, eventually.. and some don't load at all, but look like they want to as no red x appears to signify a dead link.

i have DSL, very good DSL and sometimes it takes upward of a minute to load one of the forum pages.

i am mostly posting to see if its american issues, world issues or just arkansas ones.

no other site is effected, i can go anywhere else in good time, so it is localized to snarkpit.

as i press "submit" i anticipate a very long time to upload

Whoops, fixed the register problem.

I have not noticed any slowdown of the site, though thankfully if you say it's due to images then it's simply because there are a lot of people trying to use the site at once (rather than the database deciding to die on me!) so this is a Good Thing.

And I've been thinking about RSS for a while...

lep, i just used images because they are a touch larger than simple text..

i have been having issues with the entire site for a few weeks now.. its off and on, but forever present..

like now, its smooth and speedy, but this morning it was horrible, so horrible that i was the only person here at one point.... the member list was empty save me, so i assume no one else could gain access, or had not tried recently and were absent at that moment.

i think its a host issue, but, am open to any interpretation.

sighs

bumps topic back on track

of late, we have had so many new members join, and so many new questions asked and answered. it has become obvious that some have not noticed the drop down box with the 2 options of posting an answer.

would it be better to have both displayed? 1) either have a tick box or 2) just side by side and when clicked it submits?

i like the way it currently is mind, but its also not idiot proof. if they were forced to chose one or the other the submit button would not function.

would not function.
That would mean that we would be forced to choose every time, which in the long run would be a little annoying.

agreed, but...

which is more annoying, having to click a link or constantly having to remind new members.
think about my second option Dave.. it would replace the "submit" link completely.. you wouldn't have to click two times.. in fact it would be easier than the current drop down method.

My apologies, I read it wrong. That's actually a capital idea, and has my full approval.

"Submit as suggestion" "Submit as anwser"

I think sometimes its hard to decide if you are giving an answer of
just a comment. If you're taking a stab in the dark, or just confirming
that the person is doing something, then you don't think you should put
it in as an answer. If that turned out to be the fix, sometimes it
slips through the system and gets left as a comment for pages into the
forum. Every now and then we tend to have a dig through the forums for
unanswered questions and figure out of any of the posts fit as answers,
and if not then mark the topic as case closed.

Good thinking

On another note, it seems that 3 of our tutorials have broken the 10,000 views mark!

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but I can't edit my
posts from Firefox anymore. I think I used to be able to do that, but
not now :/ All I get is a blank post in the edit field. (edited by Lep in Firefox?!)

Yeah it's always been a bit dodgy, mainly due to the way Java works :/ Let me know if it still doesn't work.
