I submitted the Snarkpit as an Awful link of the day. I often hop between the sites, but I only lurk on SA.

I don't know if this has been proposed already, but a tutorial section for DOOM III mapping would be very much welcome.

Given that there's only one map for it, don't see much point

i can tell by the way the replies bounce around that some people do not yet realize that the maps forum has "chapters"
how can we make it more obvious?

I can't help but notice that the chapters system in the mapping forum
seems to be confusing a lot of people. Check out the dm_motel thread
for an example of this, or even dm_petrol. I can see that the system
has merit, but I don't think its that ideal in its current form.

Just an idea of some new
implementation.
It'd be cool if the images at the bottom of
each page on the index pages for the forums were links to sort the
threads.
Such as, if you clicked the firesnark it would only
show threads that were "on fire".
If you clicked the New
Post snark, it would refresh to only show new threads to your
user.
I think it would actually be very helpful on the editing
forums, since you could click the unanswered or answered snark to
show either.
Obviously, you'd have to put another link to
reset it (as well as have the option nulled when the person leaves
the site)
Just a thought.

I dunno, but the RSS feed isn't working in firefox. On the site it says
that people can add RSS feeds as live bookmarks. I refer to the .xml,
but nothing loads.
What RSS version are you using, lep ?

I'm not, it's just some XML file that's based around the same feed that PHP.net uses. Some people have told me it works great in normal RSS readers so try one of them if it doesn't work in your browser!

PHP.net uses a link tag of the kind I posted above. Maybe that's the
reason the live bookmarks don't work? I can't see any other difference.
Edit: Looks like I was wrong
also, the title attrib can be "Snarkpit" or something. I thought it was an RSS descriptor.

We can have a section but it'd be pretty useless without people to
write tutorials to fill it with - which I can almost certainly
guarantee won't happen!

Quake 3 section would be nice, I knew there are a few quake 3 mappers on this site. Although I cannot guarentee that I would add anything to the tutorials.
Small sugestion; when you click on a users's avatar in thread view, it takes them to their profile opposed to just the username link.
EDIT;
Another suggestion; In the viewforum page, the list of moderators are yellow, where I believe they should be green.

not to be rude to our new members, but we should put a restriction on avatar choices.
every time i look at habboi's reply, i see yak_fighter and do a double take.
i am not saying this to begin some sort of a battle royal, but i think some way could be incorporated to omit certain "used before" avatars. its not as if there are any shortages on choices.
/ 2 cents

That would be very difficult and time consuming to police. I've made a link from the avatar to your profile, though.

When editing you're profile, special characters like you're sig are converted into the ascii abbriviations, such as > to > , when you're profile is saved, it saves these abbrivations not as the proper ascii smbol but as plain text.
Secondly, again on the edit profile page, It would be nice to be able to use bbcode and / or html in the 'about me' field, for purpose of urls and the like.

with the massive influx of new (old) maps, would it be possible to add a "zero" rating?
i would request 10 minus ones as well, but those could easily be abused in retribution by some of the smaller minded community members.
i would be content with just the "0" though

There shouldn't be special characters in your sig, only bbcode! I'll also allow for image-less bbcode in profiles. I'll also have a think about 0 ratings

/me just noticed something missing.. perhaps it was moved and i just cannot find it, but the link that shows the BBCodes in the reply window area is missing.
i noticed because i needed the code for [ list ] and couldn't find/recall it exactly so i looked for the code link that used to be present.
where has the link strayed off to?

suggestion: if possible, we need two separate links for "date" in the maps area "sort by"
as it stands now, people whom update, no matter how trivial or major, are covering up the new maps.
it would work better i think to keep updates separate from new uploads.
assuming its possible to separate the two with code.

Well, it does say either "added on..." or "edited on..." so you can often differentiate between them, but I'll look into it

Why dont you have a sidebar on topic view? It would be more consistant
with the site's default theme, and more convienient for replys,
posting, and stuff like that imo.

I would be nice to have a hi-res theme, which enables the forum sidebar at all times without have to go into condensed mode.

I think the forums need a new rule: no recruiting for mods unless they have media to show.

in "standard,hi-res" mode, the images auto reduction needs to be lowered a bit to accommodate the new window size restrictions.
the side-slide scroll is showing up again.
BTW, other than that hi-res seems perfect IMO, nice addition.

The purpose of this was for, er, people with higher screen resolutions who can fit the sidebar and 800+ pixel wide images in. Besides, images are changed when you submit them, nothing I can do about resizing them depending on what mode you're viewing in really.
