LOL, no s**t  Dunno the reasoning behind that quadruple post, but in
future if something doesn't work in the first one, go back and edit it
rather than posting again.

That concert scene looks like a mapper who has gone overboard with point_spotlight. I don't know why, but it doesn't look like a real place to me. The architecture is too simple, and the lighting could be better done.

Good colorful ambiance though, and I like the smoke effect.

Is it my imagination or is everyone using photoshop 5 or old versions? All the photoshop icons people have on thier desktops are well old versions. Adobe Photoshop CS2 is out now, theres not much difference between it and CS1 though.

I look at some of these desktops and wonder "My God, what have they done"

I cannot imagine having more than one or two icons on my taskbar.. Not the open ones, sometimes I have ten or more of those.. I am talking about the quick launch resource eaters..

On my wifes I have my Kodak one only. On mine I have my ATI power strip only. On my son's I have nothing.. Nada.

In fact, I often reboot just to frag or play a game cause I want every single erg there is.

Perhaps, just perhaps its no longer necessary but old habits die hard. I have had substandard machines for way to long.. Try fragging a FPS online with a crappy pci video card for a while on 56k.. :/

Anywho's.. I am not positive my machine runs better, but I feel better and since I am the one that needs to be pleased.. Its a no lose scenario

I don't worry about it too much to be honest. For the few bytes of
memory you are losing out on, I'm happy to have the added useabilty of
a few system tray icons. I don't play much in the way of PC games these
days anyway, so grabbing all my resources isn't normally too big a
worry for me. I'm currently back using the WinXP shell instead of the
LiteStep one I was using for a while, because the LiteStep theme wasn't
loving dual monitor setups. I alternate my second screen between my
spare 17" monitor and my big TV; the former for general computer use,
and the latter for watching anime  Here is my primary desktop...

PRT SCR works much like "ctrl C" so when you load your paint editor of choice (IE PSP 9) all you need do is press "ctrl V"

then save as and upload to your host of choice.

I have a strict "Only my work goes on my desktop rule". That way I have to stare at whatever it is I have done until I find all the flaws in it and fix it, or hate myself and cry. Eitherway it stays on the desktop.

Winamp MMD3 Skin (For the last 3 or 4 years now I think) It's the best what can I say.

I have made peace with the big Apple and bought one of their monitors... actually I bought it in the "big apple" on a vacation now that I think about it... no pun intended.

Icon placement is fairly exacting...
System icons along top row.
General linkage on left column.
Folder links on second column.
Temporary files on the rest.

Floating island on first column is project based apps. (in this case
VTF explorer
MDLDecompiler
Studio MDL (with fancy green arrow icon I found)
1152x864 - the winning resolution.
Hellllll No. 1920x1200 is the best resolution. 100 DPI is perfection.

That is a hell of a screen resolution. Although I work on 1280 by 1024 I am the only one of the local boys with a resolution that high.

Why does having a high screen resolution make you worthy of respect? It just means you can afford better hardware, no more, no less.

I hear Mac screens are very high-quality... but yes, I still think that Apple logo on the front might have cost you upwards of $100

Unlike my computer which I replace, if I'm lucky, every 18 months, my monitors usually last me about 6 years or so. Doing design day in and day out, it's a better investment than a fancy sports car, and actually pays for itself pretty quickly in productivity. It's nice when computer equipment starts to pay for itself. High resolution earns me money not respect. Out of the box, I send a printing company a PSD, it comes back, except for RGB to CMYK loss, it's as close as I could ever ask for. No more spiders for me.

P.S. Apple monitors are cheaper and better than Dell's.

I am amazed at the ammount of desktops that are filled with shortcuts, it breaks my heart...

There is a nice trick with windows to avoid this, make a new folder on
your c:, lets call it 'Shortcuts', put all of the shortcuts in it, then right click on your
taskbar (not the start button) and select toolbars -> new toolbar,
then browse to the location of the folder you created. This will give
you a nice spanking new menu on the taskbar next to your system tray in
which you can access all of your favourite shortcuts in two clicks.

(in XP you may need to 'unlock' the taskbar in order to move it around)

Just like the start menu but waaaayy better

I'll post my desktop showing an example of this whenever photobucket pull their thumbs out and let me host the image.

P.S. i think frenchtoast is right, that might just be the best wallpaper ever.

edit Here is my desktop:

You can also stick 'My Computer' into its own taskbar and add your quicklaunch icons to it like so:

Do this by dagging the 'My Computer' icon to the side of your desktop
and letting go, it will 'stick' to the side as a toolbar with which you
can edit via right clicking on it to make it auto-hide. You can also
add toolbars to it such as quick-launch. There is a downside to this -
you cannot access this toolbar with other windows open. I have got used
to pressing 'start + d' on my keyboard to show the desktop if i need to
acess 'My Computer' and I wouldn't go back now that I am used to it.

I can bet 99% of you who try it won't like it, but I thought I'd let you know how its done anyway.

I'm gonna shut up now, peace.

The graphics aren't a big deal, because people can create their own
custom addons, I have one that replaces almost half the models in the
game.

Its not just the graphics its the general gameplay. when you run in a
diaganal well you dont. you just run forwards and move left. Playing
EQ2 too much, when you run in a diaganal they character actualy Turns
in that direction and runs how he should.

I did make my owm maps and stuff for morrowind.... when i was instested
in it, im just not anymore. it gets to a point where you get redicuasly
Uber and you can fly when you jump etc etc.

Another thing im not so keen on morrowind is that the actual storyline
quest is realy realy boring and rubbish, i just did all the guild
thingies and general killed anything and everything.

Why does having a high screen resolution make you worthy of respect? It just means you can afford better hardware, no more, no less.
I show respect for in fact using a high resolution. I use 17'' CRTs with the highest possible resolution.
Most people (I know) just don't.
I show respect for not being mainstream (as far as I experience). Probably 80 % of SnarkPits' users use a high res - so I just have to get used to it.
Never try to be perfect - just try it and make the best out of it
