It might have been a Valve version of the snarkpit if I could edit your post and make it say zOMG SPANK THE MONKEY LOL.
It's a nice idea . But I think there are going to be a lot of
I'm-not-a-n00b mappers/modellers/coders who'll be running around
editing things before understanding what's happening properly. I
suppose it shouldn't make too much trouble if the original article
authors maintain it properly, but with mappers leaving for jobs and
real-life stuff all the time, it may be tough :/

As they say, never trust a company who can't spell... Well on the frontpage of that site, by Source... They can't use grammar very well

Nothing is like the SnarkPit. Not only do we have professional
mappers who work in the industry, but we also have this sense of
comraderie that's hard to cultivate in a big commercially sponsored
site.
I've been to other mapping communities before, but they're far too
commercial. Without Lep's hard work and TLC, SnarkPit would just
be another one of those pay-as-you-go type of site or something that's
overrun by annoying flashing ads about the next Splinter-Cell game.
Man, how else would I be able to waste hundreds of hours on the internet?

I don't think Valve likes the idea of mapping sites like this one, to be honest- though I think it's more about stopping misinformation being spread, than jealousy  And yes, I agree about the community feel - there are these sad little nooks and crannies that you have to hide in, and it's the same with Wikipedia - though I hope they address this, as Wikis are quite a funky idea.

Its a new thing, a wiki. Its an updatable database that can be edited by anyone.
