Valve was going to make an announcement about TF:S and/or TF2 after HL2's release. Has anyone heard anything?

My biggest regret with HL1 was that I never got to make a TFC map, so I was hoping to get a jump on things with HL2 and start a Source TF map now. I'd kinda hate to make a TF map for an non-existant mod/game, though.

ps: this look like a good start on a flag room?!

pps: going to work, so I probably won't respond till tonight

looks good, You ought to make those pillars that go to the middle of the roof into displacement surfaces and subdivide them to make them round and organic looking. it would be COOL.

Last I heard TF2 is going to be a stand-alone retail product

Haven't heard a word about TF:S unforunately.

*valve is working on TF2 (but wont give more info like dates etc)
*an indepentent group is working on TF:S, under the name "Fortress Forever". They've been on it for a year, and using their previous work and extensive research as a starting point, and given the HL2 SDK's release, the Fortress Forever team is now pushing forward in full force.

Seems they're not really looking for an extra mapper but im sure high quality submissions will be apprectiated, so go for it

the more reason to try to convince them of your work
well he didnt have unlimited room for creativity as its a remake of the original openfire, so i think he did a pretty ok job, but indeed not mind-blowing.

That's what I said to Defrag who's on the team (he maded bases2k3 stuff
like that..) - apparently the openfire conversion is nothing to do with
their work.

Heh, I get the opposite impression of AlienS-, err, "TwoKnives" . They look pretty good. Though I can
see why someone wouldn't be impressed; not enough static-mesh
stuff/junk littering the entire level.

There's no doubt about it being good work, I won't contest that. It's
just not up to the unreasonably high standard I was hoping for. If the
gameplay stays intact I'll cease my whinging, I promise. The only
reason I stopped playing TFC was the lack of players.

You don't happen to have any 'official' screenshots Gwil? Preferably of Warpath, the greatest TFC map to grace my computer.

As far as I'm aware there isn't any out yet TwoKnives - theyre dragging
their heels until they can show us weapons and in game action, before
the maps.

I doubt warpath is high on the conversion list though, you'll have to volunteer your services! As long as it doesnt touch badlands or crap like that, do it

Team Fortess was never about pretty graphics. Hell, most TFC maps were downright UGLY, because TF is all about the gameplay

I'll check out that mod, looks interesting. I'm not interested in working ON a mod team right now, though I might submit maps to one independently.

cause there might be a chance tf2 wont have the same gameplay as tfc. i think the FF team is after only taking the "classic" out of tfc, i.e. modern maps, models,... but still with conc, limited-BH,... Also they seem to be very community oriented (with their roots in the uktfcl community), close to the ppl, listening to ideas...
ps: im glad they're not after the nowadays-popular "junk littering the entire level"-approach, grav gun doesnt fit in tfc imo

Although I later played mostly Action HL and UT2k4 Onslaught, TFC is still my favorite game of all time really.

What I saw of early TF2 looked a lot more like Battlefield 1942 etc. than the original Team Fortress, so I think there's definitely some value in a mod that seeks to recapture and enhance the original's style of gameplay.

In other news, I now have my 'old' computer up and running- Athlon 2700+, GF4800se 128mb, and 1GB pc3200. Having two gaming pcs is so fun bwahahaha

I'm not really excited about any tFC. Whenever i played, ppl always cheated. It pissed me off and i stopped playing. I just hope that if they make it, it will be VERY cheat-resistant.

Er wait, you see - you could be rferrring to people using concussion
grenades to jump ridiculous heights/lengths? I know this was a huge
issue on the US side of ther pond, and american leagues got concussion
jumping culled back, and bunnyhopping all but removed :/

Despite the fact the rest of the world saw the ability as a skill, not
an exploit, valve still took it out. it's very much a European minded
project if my thinking is correct, trying to cut off ties with valve
and their bowing to US leagues, and subsequent death of the game :/

no way! I think that being ble to use your weapons to jump high and having that great timing is a great skill. I was talking about some ppl who had weapons that would shoot with machingun rates and fire grenade projectiles. Anyway, It was worse than COGS with Jedi Knight.

Conc jumping, rocket jumping, grenade jumping, pipebomb jumping... TFC was all about jumping. I loved it! And blowing enemies up by self-destructing my dispenser as an Engineer was also pretty cool.

amen. good tfc clanwars couldnt be compared to anything.

the concing/ BH were great as they added the dimension of speed and the stress on reaction skills. still its good they limited BH. nothing worse then an offy spamming bunnyhopping HW.
anyway..looking forward to how FF is gonna turn out
