KILL BILL.

I love this movie. Lots of humour, good story, LOTS of violence, REALLY stylish. There is so much violence in this movie; nothing can prepare you for how much blood is everywhere. And all of it is done very, very stylishly. So much style. It oozes style. I honestly like this movie better than either of the Matrix's or whatever you kids watch these days.

Oh, and the music is all top-notch. I must hunt down the soundtrack as soon as humanly possible.

GO SEE IT. RIGHT NOW. (well, if you live in the continental United States...)

I hear the story is a load of crap though, but might be improved with viewing the second installment? Ah well.. bides his time to watch it

I thought the story was:

Bill kills Uma Thurman's hubby.  Uma Thurman vows to kill Bill.  Uma Thurman fights lots of people, eventually killing Bill.  The end.

it's pretty kick ass. not only did my sister and I love it, my parents loved it, too.

it's a fun, stylish action movie. one of the best in a while. go go go see it now! :biggrin:

watched jonathan woss a while back & tbh it looked like storyless, pointless crap :/

the fight scenes in Kill Bill are nothing like the Matrix. the Matrix lacks the fountains of blood and constant limb severings! and there are no evil japanese schoolgirls in the Matrix, either!!!

it looks like theres a lot of Bruce Lee in it, with the yellow jump suit and the masked guy's. i havent seen it yet, wanna see finding nemo first :razz:

Yeah, as Jinx said, it's pretty different from the Matrix; a lot of it is pretty realistic except the blood (i.e. Uma can't jump 3 floors up or fly around on the ceiling) and from what I could tell they didn't use much computer or wire effects at all. Everyone in Kill Bill pretty much exclusively uses katanas or knives too. I suppose the story is kind of thin as well, but for a movie like this I feel it doesn't have to have much more depth than it does already.

Oh, and it's not just Uma Thurman's hubby; her child as well.

Its baced on the Bruce Lee films cos Tarentino wanted to make a 70's style kung fu movie.

there are a lot of anime influence too. erm, literally, even, in that there's a rather long sequence that is... well... anime... hehe.

Wow. I've got to agree with CJ- its a very, very stylish movie. The storyline is a bit thicker than I thought it would be, and much less gory than I'd heard. Well, let me rephrase that. The gore is overdone to the point where it is humerous, so its not just overwhelming in its goriness (and it was intentional)(so thats good and all).

And the swords? Oooooh. I can't stop drooling.

I thought Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was superb!

All the martial arts stunts were done using strings, none of this bullet time malarky (Which by the way was so over used in Reloaded, really disappointed me Reloaded did)

Much better technically speaking!

freddy was better, but only to a point, then the movies declined into trash.

CTHD sucked so badly i couldn't begin to watch it, but i just finished watching bulletproof monk, it had a superb storyline and very little of the acrobatics..

i wish this trend would end soon, all martial arts movies such IMO because of the floating bits

Come on! Nazis stealing peoples memories for a scroll etched on some d00d's skin?

Given, some of the action scenes were neat-o, but I'm sorry, the storyline was seriously lacking.

sure, it had a bit of silly thrown in, but the basic plot was quite good IMO.. the thought of one person retaining "ALL" like he did was kinda cool, especially when e had to pass the torch on to a veritable dweeb, because he fulfilled the 3 pieces of the prophecy.

still, when compared, my list of all time movies prolly would not have many titles as most of you kids..

if asked, IMO what makes a movie great, is the ability to entertain you, no matter how many times its watched..

if i had to throw out one title that fills that description, it would be "The African Queen" an excellent bit of cinematography.

I guess I'm kind of the opposite then. I mean, I like eye-candy and all, and its important in some films, but if a movie has a plot that makes no sense, and tries too hard to be something that it just isn't, I can't watch it a second time.

I can't believe what I just read. Someone on this planet actually likes Bulletproof Monk?! It's one of the worst movies I've ever seen in a while. Simply he fact that it had Nazis seeking some source of power already degrades it to a low level (can't come up with anything original?); but the whole story/theme of the movie was very shallow and terrible. This itself would not be so bad if only the movie did not actually take this "message" seriously instead of embedding it everywhere. I must agree with Monqui... If I ever had to watch that movie again, I would... I would...

well, i am not burning effigies to the monk movie or something, i am just saying, i preferred it to CTHD .. it was not as bad as you said tho :razz:

still, it doesn't fall into the same bracket as african queen either...

if you wanna know the truth, i have a nearly 2 year old grandson, his favorite movie is "dinosaur" i have seen it almost 100 times now, watched it so much that the color is fading from it, but i watch it every single time i am home and he is here, as many times as he wishes :smile:

it has re-watch-ability :smile: especially when you throw in his joy as well ..

Oh yeah? Well, what about that fight between Peter and the invalid coupon giving chicken on Family Guy? Yeah, that's what I thought. Uma can't handle that.

Don't see House of the Dead. Ever. Please. I just got back and... just... wow. Its almost better than "House of 1000 Corpses". Almost...

It was funny only because we 4 out of the 8 people in the theater. By the end, we were all cracking jokes about it with each other. So in that sense, its a good way to meet interesting new people. But the movie? Stay away. I think there was, at MAX, 1 good shot. Not one good scene, one good SHOT. And they showed the good part of it in the commercials. Blegch.

You know what movie I really want to see? Gigli.

I actually do want to see that just to say "I saw Gigli!" And say that, I would.

CTHD bashing?! No no no! Its a quality film, the first Chinese movie that really struck a chord with me and I'm now a big fan of Hong Kong cinema.

Anyone here seen Hero? I know a few folks have, and this has been mentioned before, but if you haven't seen it I thoroughly recommend you do. Excellent martial arts action, a nice interesting story, and that "whoa!" factor happens quite frequently.

downloaded it days after you mentioned it, tis a nice flick ..

personally, one of my altime favorite chink flick was "anne and the king" very much in the "re-watchable" categorie

I'm with ya whole heartedly on Hero, ReNo, but I just didn't think CTHD was as great as everyone said it was. I mean, sure, it had a decent plot, looked nice, and had a very good director behind it, but I really don't think all the praise heaped upon it was fully warrented.

Translation is sort of botched for CTHD (the subtitles are decent, but the dub is pretty bad); it's better if you speak Chinese, as the dialogue will sound much more beautiful and poetic. But of course not everyone speaks Chinese, and thus can't really feel the full impact of the film...

i wanna watch kill bill but it will be R18+ when released here

CTHD won an Oscar for best foreign film so it must have some credence... commiting seppaku bit harsh innit

I don't watched dubbed things, other than anime, which is normally dubbed pretty well. Subtitles all the way for me :smile:

Yeah :smile: I can't imagine Ring working too well if it had been dubbed. Kinda frustrating at times trying to read and watch what's happening on the rest of the screen at the same time as you tend to miss the odd small detail but it gives a better overall experience.

Not seen Kill Bill yet, but I might try and get to the cinema this weekend. Looks pretty good :smile:
