I have poor ping, 150ish, and I get 15-60 fps (map dependent) and I
dont do that bad. Infact I would say I'm on average in the top
rung.
Ping and FPS only gets me killed when there is alot of s**t going down at once.
Have you ever had a dream where your in a fight and you feel like your
moving like your stuck in taffy? Thats how I play from time to
time.

I'm gonna have to start taking some screenies, and parade myself as a champion for the latency-challenged.

OK OK. No matter how much I optimize your never happy are you Orph  .
I think everyones got the message. You might want to tone it down,
other wise risk becoming the old man of the forums  .
Oh, and you might want to check the file size of that last shot you
posted too. Hows that saying go, practice what you... I think you know the rest  .

Settle down Orph, I was only joshing you a bit because I know how
peeved you get when people post under optimized pics. Thats the only
time I've seen you post a pic over 100K, so I had to rib you over it
 .
I know I should post optimized screen shots, but sometimes I forget, or
the optimization process didn't quite get the job done. Whatever the
reason I'm sorry, and I'll try harder next time, Ok.

dammit, don't apologize. defend yourself.
this is my crusade. no one else cares as much so i don't truly expect miracles.
at the end of the day, i would feel better if you didn't back off so easy. even if you're wrong.
/me goes back to bed.. i was mad because my critique was overlooked, and this was the icing on the cake.
from a friend too.

Fine then, you want a fight, you'll get one, just to prove that I'm
still a friend. Personally I think you go over the top when it comes to
screenshots, that and you seem to take it personally everytime someone
doesn't optimize a pic. Geez, just relax a little for once, its only a
fricken' mapping forum for Pete's sake. Fair enough, huge screenshots
are a pain in the ass, but I don't see how 150K is that big, I had no
trouble with such pics on dial-up, so I don't see how anyone else would
either.
I never challenged your opinion because you are a mate and it would
look bad in front of the n00bs. Happy now, you stubborn son-of-a-gun?

actually no, but you didn't expect that did you?
occasionally, i am forced to use my parents 56k. it connects at 2.4
you do the math.
now consider, its not a link to a pic, this is a forum thread, it contains many many shots. this "page" will take a long time to load for a 56k person, why compound it?
forget the fact that YOU loaded a 150k image and consider you added to a page that could have a total quite massive.
if you are expecting me to give up. forget it. i was on 56k way to long, suffered way to much to do it. the good news is, i have broadband now and can bitch really fast.
/ rant

Same here, I only got broadband end of last year. Hell, Australia's
telecommunications are so bad that my broadband doesn't work half the
frigging time, and when it does its always disconneting. Compounded by
the fact we are on the arse end of the world, and have to wait ages for
everything anyway. The difference is I have some f**king patience. I
mean, my ping on most servers is f**king awful, but you don't hear me
complaining everytime I die cause of lag. Don't talk to me about poor internet speeds.
Plus I'm also a stubborn bastard of a dog whose set in his ways, and
half the time couldn't bother learning new tricks just to make someone
else happy.

consider this. i believe in this so strongly, i have seriously revamped my critiquing system. my old way was way to demanding on anyone with 56k.
my new way takes me far longer, but the results are so that anyone, ANYONE can view it.
i do my damnedest to set a proper example. go look at my newest critique. you will see what i mean.
it now takes me about 1 hour to do a full critique. considering, dloading the map, walking around and jotting notes, optimizing the shots, uploading them and entering the text. i have essentially added about 20 minutes or more to the way i did yours..
now. who do you think puts in the most effort for the 56k members? :/
when you said "practice what you preach" it hurt way more than you know.

Look man, I'm sorry if I kicked you in the proverbial nuts. That wasn't
my intention. I take great delight in teasing you every now and then
about screenshot sizes because you get so riled up and are so
passionate about it. Don't get me wrong, I have mucho respect for you.
The fact I always take serious note of your criticism's of my maps and
incorporate much of them is evidence of this; as well as the fact I
respect most of your opinions on other issues, and if possible back you
up on stuff. I always joke around with my
mates, and give them a ribbing now and then, it's what we do. If you
were offended by this I am sorry, as I had no intention of doing so.

forget it.
sometimes a joke can go astray. but i do not only practice what i preach, i improve on the concept when ever and where ever i can.
i like the looks of the new critiques, but i have to admit that they are a pain now. i am not as keen on doing them for the effort it now takes.
perhaps its only the "new" method. i need some practice to get faster.
at the end of the day, sometimes a joke about someones passion, is not the best idea.
at the end of the next day, i usually realize that i did just that, and prolly offended some poor asswipe myself.

Sure thing, I've got no problems doing mini reviews. Nobody's ever
asked me to do 'em before. I usually just comment on maps by mappers
who will appreciate commentary and critiques; and occaisionally on
those who won't but really need it.
PUBLIC PROCLAMATION: If anyone wants a mini review done I am more than
willing and able if time is permitting (At Uni). Just PM me and I'll
take a gander.

Nice spray; kinda says something like "cuddle me!" . runs away
Na'h, just being jelous; it's really a nice idea.
Oh, and a question: how do you know that your opponents don't see that
missing material texture instead of your custom spraypaint? Is the
spraypaint uploaded by the server automaticaly like it would with a map
or material file?

My goal is making as many frags as possible by tossing grenades in
second 4 with the grav-gun. I rarely play with any other weapon. And
i'm getting better and better at it  . The n00bs never know what hit
them.
Also like playing suicide bomber. I chase people around with an armed
grenade and blow myself up next to them. A million laughs  .

I'm not even going to bother posting a screenshot of my score. I was lucky just to get an even kill/death ratio. I think I'll just stick to making a map.

My son and I have been lan fragging a bunch of late. (i currently only have one copy of HL2 so we can only frag online one at a time... = no fun watching the other  )
but my reason for posting. with only two of us in the game, its pretty easy to keep up with how and when we kill each other. we have noticed an appalling amount of "no hits" and yet its positive we connected.
has anyone else experienced this?
i can confirm on no less than a dozen occasions where i nailed him at point blank range, but his health remained at 100%.. same when the reverse is true.
is this my bug, or is it an engine bug?

I get that but times it by 10 once you've factored in lag. I don't know
how many times of blasted guys with a double shotty blast twice in the
back, and they still don't go down. Or hitting them full on with a
rocket which hurles them through the air but does little more than that.

What I don't get is why the hell do the the combine soldiers start off with the shotgunin every single match I play. I can't even get a kill with that crappy machine gun and I can never find any other weapons in the map. I usually just run around a corner and get my face blown off by a shotgun or a magnum.

I like using physics objects to get up to the quite sneaky ledges above
the xbow and behind the health charger nearby. The bed and desk are
handy for such adventures
