Zombie Epidemic: What Would You Do?

Going along with the recent Urban Dead obssessions (maybe its just me)
here at the SP I was thinking maybe I'm not the only one who daydreams
about what they would do in the event that zombies became a reality.

What would you do if there was a zombie outbreak in your area?

Oh, and these are the slow shamblers we're used to in the original
Romero trilogy... not the freakishly fast and deadly kind like those
seen in 28 Days Later.

Slow ones? Barricading somewhere where there is lots of food sounds good. Going to sleep would suck. I'd also go raid any weapons stores before going mall with other people.

Buy a Shotgun and have fun blowing the heads off Zombies. And then raid
a mall, maybe try to have sex with all the women I have wanted too but
been to scared to ask.. =)

Shotguns. I hope those are skeet shotguns, not sprays.

I'd book it to Costco, get supplies with some friends and everyone who matters .. to me .. Hold out on the roof or upper areas. Make my way to lockable buildings, slowly working north.

Canada would be the place to be. Why? It's f**king cold (I'd go to the middle north area) Constricts their bodies and they move slow already. Also, Canada is spread out. There's large areas with no people.

Also. I have my trusty guide. Morphine, go buy this book (you could download it off the site, but having it in book form is cooler).

It's great. It even has a "journal" area in the back to recount your events ... since all these survivors always have some sort of place to keep them.

Even "zombie encounters throughout history". Then there's a bunch of sections on how to deal with zombies. Hunt them. Exterminate them. So on and so forth.

I love that book though. It's sadly, is the best "explanation". It just glosses over some things. Breathing. How can the zombies groan if they don't breath?

Other than that, it's pretty comprehensive. (Sort of).

I love the fishing tactic for getting water logged zombies. It also has a class system for "invasions". Class 1-4, four being world wide and lasting for at least 30 years.

Of course, a lot of stuff is off. Like the lifetime of a zombie. Not that long, right? They don't regrow muscle, so the more they move the weaker they get. There's still forms of decomposition.

You'd also be able to smell them coming. They are corpses after all.

You can guess what my zombie series will be like. (Yes, I'm planning a series to start off a film career) I just need money ... any investors? :dodgy:

You know what's funny, I was just talking about the plot of a zombie film I would write if I felt like it.

Basically -- my friends and I were wondering how zombies would actually come into existence.

I figured it would be a group of crazy scientists who wanted to create
a vacation island infested with zombies to be marketed to all the
zombie nerds who want to try out a weekend (or longer) of survival
amongst zombies. A Zombie Park if you will....

I thought it would be pretty funny to rip off two movies at once. Romero's Day of the Dead and Jurassic Park.

But seriously, you should start off with a Zombie series! I can't
get enough of these movies. I'd love to be an extra, and I'll
work for just a TShirt (like most of the extra's in Romero's
films). Let me know if you need a 20 year old half-asian zombie.

Have you started on the script? Wouldn't having an amazing script be a great way to get investors in on your idea?

You can guess what my zombie series will be like. (Yes, I'm

Well it's a proven fact that anykind of porn sells. There's always someone who gets his kicks out of something else. :rolleyes:

I'd probably go to the gun closet and take my fathers scoped hunting rifle and a double barreled shotgun. Then I'd hoard all the ammo I can get and get some not-so-easily-decomposing food and perhaps climb on a rooftop. Getting laid would be one of the things on the to do list after that, but first things first... :cool:

If you want to see a zombie film that actually explains how the zombies
appeared and how they can be gotten rid of, look for the film 'Undead'.
It's an Australian made film, has a great story and some classic
Australian humour. It's also one of the best zombie films I've seen,

Shotgun? Hell, no! Busting their heads off with my shovel is the best
thing to do. How hard could it be to kill a bunch of slow, decomposing
and not to witty zombies?

Too bad I don't own a machete. I think that's probably the perfect weapon.

Either that or a pike... but where can you find pikes nowadays?

Ooh, a combine harvester ! Kinda like a crowd pleaser.

I'd gather close family and friends and go somewhere remote. Then I'd
just stay there and protect the place as good as possible, trying to
stock up on food and gasoline and other useful things, perhaps a bunch
of first aid kits. :biggrin:

I'd try to keep myself updated on how things were progressing,
listening to radio or watching television if there were any broadcasts.

The thing is with slow zombies I bet you wouldn't even need a gun if you had a deadly blade of some sort.

The only limitations would be if you were in a tight area where you
couldn't swing, or if you were really really tired and couldn't keep it
up. But then again if your life was on the line I bet you could
swing a machete forever.

i like zombies, i enjoy them (in games....) But if they were real well..heres what may happen...

• If i dont know anything about that zombie evolution thing, and
  happened suddenly, i would head right through a weapon store ( as
  everyone stated) but unfortunatly, they road may be blocked by zombies before you
  reach there, so you may think of running them over? well, running over
  bones and flesh would make the car swirl around, ending with a big smash

I'm waiting for my Zombie Survival Guide to come in the mail before I write out my plan of action.

But I think a zombie pandemic would definitely be survivable.
Food and clean water would be a huge concern, maybe as big a concern as
the zombies (if you're armed and and smart keep moving).

I think if you hid somewhere in the middle of nowhere, with all the
necessary supplies I think you'd have a good chance of surviving. And
if a great deal of the human population turned into zombies, at some
point, there wouldn't be anything left for the zombies to feed on. So,
in the end I think the zombie epidemic would kind of put an end to
itself, just like the plague during the dark age in Europe did.

Not really, iv seen in games and one movie i forgot, that when zombies
find a lack of food, they would get out of control, and start tearing
themselves apart, eating each other, which will reduce their
amount...oh..yeah, your right, they ARE putting an end to theirselves,
but before that, it would take a long time for it to happen, and in
that time, 99% of the earth would be crawling with starving dead
corpses...and hey sythe, as i said, its not hard to use a shotgun, but
i doubt that everyone in the world knows how to use them, not a lot
man..but if you're a fast learner, you can learn and kick ass, but you
will die :razz:

explained, and then we would, so to speak, start from beginning of the
Human Race. At that time (couple of years) people should be turned into
zombies and those zombies have died already because of hunger.

The zombie thing is quite frightening, but a lone island (necessary
supplies, as I said...) somewhere in equatorial islands where zombies
possibly cannot reach, should be enough. If equipped with handy
weaponry (such as machette's or katanas, and preferably firearms
aswell). Then we would "live happily ever after on that small island
and mate and replicate and grow a new human race, which would be
independent and free".

Your style, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary were all really
good. Only a few things need changing. Took should be
take. And I would change one of the sentences, for clarity, to:
"After a couple of years all the people who have turned into zombies
should have died of hunger." And it should be machetes not
machette's.

As for your idea, who's going to deliver the babies?

I think you'd have some serious inbreeding problems on that island after a while. :wink:

And Dark|Killer, think about it this way: How much of the area of the
earth is covered with humans now? If every single human on earth turned
into a zombie there would still be huge areas without a single one.
As someone suggested earlier, Alaska is one fine example. Not many
people and on top of that, a not so zombie friendly climate.

A melee weapon is much more useful when it comes to zombies, because you don't have to worry about running out of ammos.

Remember "Pulp Fiction", when Bruce Willis was going through that pawn
shop and try to pick out the best weapon to go to the back and
slaughter everyone. There was a chain saw, but it's too noisy and
too heavy. Besides, it's too cliched to hack off zombies with it.

But a samauri sword. . . Now, that's a weapon with character and
prestige. How nice is that? You can slash open those dead
bodies and look pretty darn cool while you're at it.

A gravity gun would be nice, but it might be too heavy to lug around too.

Yeah, Zombie Survival Guide says to use a pike, but I don't have one for obvious reasons... got a nice metal baseball bat, though, and I know for a fact my dad has a lot of guns, along with everyone in this town (I think one of my friends has at least 4 on his wall)... so yes. You don't even have to know how to aim a gun if they're moving slow, since you can just wait until they're a few feet away and fire... yay. I've been meaning to buy some kevlar leggings and whatnot off of Amazon...

I really don't know what I'd do. Probably make my way to the military/naval bases in the city I'm in. Plymouth has almost all of UK's current fleet at it, so I'm sure with a load of nuclear subs and the protection around them I'd be safe there (if it wasn't like Resident Evil: Apocalypse where they barricade everyone into quarantine).
