I thought "Fisheye and the Egyptians" was a pretty good one that Fishy said. My mom is always coming up with crazy band names. I think it's because she is on some drug I don't know about. I thought a good thread would be to post funny band names, either real or just ones you made up.

I always thought "Butthole Surfers" was just a completely ludicrous band name.

Other REAL band names:
  • Mustard Plug
  • Adickdid
  • UFOFU
  • The Yeastie Girls
  • Nomad Nipples
  • Butt trumpett

I tried sniffing coke, but the ice cubes kept getting stuck in my nose.

Yes, there's a band called Hole with Courtney Love in it, and I don't like Yellowcard or Green Day so there!!!!!11

The only fake band name that I can remember, one of my friends (they exist!?!?!?) came up with: The Long-Distance Rainbows.

And here's some real ones.
  • Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin
  • Haley Bonar (if you have a dirty mind... Hairy Boner. But that's her real name so what can you do?)
  • Wooden Wand (again, dirty mind... wooden wand!?)

One day you'll know what you're talking about, I can hardly imagine

Yellow Cards music is much better than the crap Green Day produces. God I hate Green Day.

Anyhoo, best band name ever is Rainbow Butt Monkeys. That was Finger Eleven's name until they changed it to Finger Eleven.

Barenaked Ladies is a good one. Nobody was coming to their shows,
but when the sign said "Barenaked Ladies sept. 3rd" a lot of people
showed up

Wow Omega, by all means hate Yellowcard, but whats with the Green Day comparison? Both play music in similar genres, but that is pretty much where the similarities end. The only commonality between the names is the use of a colour, which I hardly think is justification for calling them a rip off. Since when did Green Day get a monopoly on the pop/rock/punk musical style?

Anyways, when I first got into ska I bought a load of compilation CDs, and from those I come across a whole barrelful of crazy band names, mostly trying to work "ska" in somewhere  Unfortunately I haven't ripped quite a lot of those and can't remember some of the obscure ones (there was one called "Ali Skaba and the Forty Pounds of Beef" or something along those lines!), but below is a list of some of the wierder band names I've come across.

Atom and his Package
The Skatalites
The Alcoskalics
Cherry Poppin' Daddies
Distorted Penguins
Electric Eel Shock
Kicked in the Head
Lets Go Bowling
Bowling for Soup
MegaSuperUltra
Pharmaceutical Bandits
Reggie and the Full Effect
Ska King Crab
Skankin' Pickle
Slow Gherkin
Asian Kung Fu Generation

My mate and I were gonna start up a band called "Kerbside Hedgehog", inspired by the sad sight of a spikey little corpse splatted on the road.

If you like Ska/punk, you can check out the band I drum for at uni called Kid Chameleon. If you have myspace (curse of the devil!) then you can find us on there with some samples. The singing and guitaring is a bit off, and I was fed up of drumming during that recording of the EP (it was the 4th time we had tried to record it, kept messing up- took 4 solid days before we had anything).

Otherwise I'll try and upload the live video of me playing during a gig, in which I played for Kid Chameleon and a Metallica tribute band called Metallicats (from the inside cover of Garage inc.)

On the topic of names though, Kid Chameleon originated from the computer game.

Another name which is more interesting is the band "Jimmy Eat World". Thier name came from the lead singers brother, who he said was so fat that he could eat the world!

Forgive the code, im posting from school on a crappy lap top
? but to the best of my knowledge no one holds a monopoly over anything (unless
your talking about Michael Jackson and pop music).

There really wasn?t a comparison, green day is good listening
music from the 80s, yellowcard is a 2000 spin on 80s rock. It goes for the same
deal with the name of the band (trivial I know, but why not set yourself apart
by choosing your own name than copying others).

Just some names to add to the list:

Green Day ? since when are you having a ?green day?? when
you get sick from listening to their music too much? Or having ?Good Ridince?
played an excessive amount of time in college dorms on the gutar, or their ?Bulavard
of Broken Dreams? on the radio every hour?

Blink 182 ? do you blink 182 times a second or something?

Limp Bizkit ? WTF is a limp bizkit?

Flogging Molly (Maybe im mixing this up with a song) ? why does
molly need to be flogged?

Linkin Park ? Where is this linking park?

Phish ? great band, but why spell ?fish? like ?phish??

Green Day isn't an 80's band. Their first album wasn't released
until 1990, and Dookie wasn't out until 1993. They're also still
playing today...

Also, as for their name... Green Day is slang for a day spent smoking pot.

As for Blink 182's name:
wikipedia said:
Shortly after the release of Cheshire Cat, blink was threatened with legal action by a techno band in Ireland
of the same name. In order to avoid a lengthy lawsuit, blink added
"-182" to the end of their name. Although there are rumours as to why
these numbers were chosen (for example, that it is the number of times
Al Pacino utters the word "f**k" in Scarface Also 1+8+2= 11 which was the number that the amplifier went up to in the 1984 spoof Heavy Metal Rocumentary This Is Spinal Tap,
that they represent Hoppus's ideal weight, or the position in the
alphabet of the letters 'R' and 'B,' referring to the northern San
Diego suburb of Rancho Bernardo, making the meaning of 'blink' [possibly f**k]
RB.), all the band members but one have made it clear that the numbers
were picked at random. In one interview, Travis stated that the "182"
was the U.S. radio codeword meaning 'homicide' (apparently confusing
"182," the radio codeword for conspiracy, for "187"). During the pop punk boom of the 1990s, blink-182 was signed by MCA in 1996 which later became Geffen Records, which they stayed with.

I really don't see anything 80's about Yellowcard mate, sorry  Green Day, up until the most recent albums at any rate (I haven't really listened to their new stuff) was fairly raucous and rough, while Yellowcard are really pretty melodic and "clean" with their music. I still don't see how using a colour in your name is ripping off Green Day either - I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they probably picked the name without giving a second's thought to Green Day.

I think most of the band names you listed probably have a reason behind them, you'll just have to hunt about for it  Then again, some bands just pick their names because they sound good, which is perfectly valid too.

While I'm not a big fan of Yellowcard, I know they do have a violinist
so I think that alone makes them hard to compare with Green Day.

Also, ReNo are you going to keep the holiday themed avatar until next Christmas?

this isnt the place for it. But I leave you with this: No matter what
anyone says, a violin will never be punk rock enough.

Almost all of the songs they produce aren't even a minute long and they

Back when I was in high school, I was in the class that I now teach, and myself and the other guys wanted to make a techno band called CTRL+ALT+DEL, and we had songs like "CSMACD da hoe" and "Blue screen of Death" and others. Now it's just the name we put on any random music that gets recorded in the class, techno, bluegrass/gospel. Anything I freestyle or that a brave student makes up.

Phish ? great band, but why spell ?fish? like ?phish??

Blink 182 ? Someones answered

Limp Bizkit ? Relating to the sexual ideas within the music.

[Highlight to see mature content] They have a fascination with sex and buttrape, hence the album "Chocolate starfish and the hotdog flavoured water", meaning basically cum in your ass... Limp Bizkit is relating his penis to a limp crumby penis, one that may be crumbling and moist because he dipped it in his tea... who knows?! [End Highlight]

Linkin Park ? Something to do with Linoln Park in the US, loads of websites talk about it and where the "band" started.

Phish ? Some kinda mythological beast/god thing. Look it up.
