Does like very nice indeed, but what's with the big banner? It covers up half (EDIT ok...maybe not half!) the screenshot

Orph: I'm aware of no other ns map called forsaken.
As for the banner it's actually quite small just most of the time that corner has a rock/infest texture with red light on it which makes it look hugey

Could have taken the "S" out of the name
Forsaken ---> Foraken
So long as the name is great I have no probs though. Just make sure the player gets lots of head room (eh ReNo  )

If it's all the way up it shouldn't be so dark that you can't make any comments on it. I know there are dark areas but they're intentional and limited to corners pretty much. If it is that dark then shrug

You know what? I like the pics. They don't show off much, just the top and bottom of a stairwell from what I can see... but they still got a nice mood to them.

And he got a legit answer, orpheus. However he seemed to ignore the 2 smilies in my post which normally mean, hey i'm joking i don't expect you to go buy a new monitor i'm just to lazy to post some edited pictures. Also note the smiley in my reply about pissing meaning i'm not being serious and i haven't just stuck them in there right now, they're been there along! gasp

I do, i even specifically asked for people to tell me if they thought it was dark, i fully expected a few it's a bit dark. But as i said i'm to lazy to edit the images even for a 30 second job and you seemed to miss my sarcasm and smilies.

Truth is, Any atmospheric map gets nothing but "It's too dark", Looks fine on mine, If it doesnt on yours then its probably not the authors fault, Just that we all have very different monitors / gamma's brightnesses / room lighting / eyes & god knows what else.
Ive tried brightening up a shot because someone thought it was too dark, When it got to perfect on his it looked like a complete pile of crap on everyone elses.
I think you just have to hope that most people are calibrated much as you are or offer it to download.

the thing is korn, if a pic is obviously been edited (or better, a foot note was added to show it) then people know, and can comment on details OTHER than lights..
but if its dark, its dark, and i for one am not going to edit someone elses screens FOR THEM, well at least not often, i do sometimes for people i favor
bottomline, if the majority states, screens to dark, its prolly a pic issue, not a mapping one, so FIX THE SCREENS! :heee:

Looks very nice, and yeah, the lighting's dark, but it's NS, it's supposed to be. The infestation and lighting are all very good.

I'll get updated screenshots today with slighty brighter lighting and higher gamma settings, with no banner and probably something else. I didn't go to my last lesson today and i have no homework! YEY! Pretty lucky this week as i've kept on top of it. Err anyway.
Clipping is a big worry but i'm confident i'll be able to get it nice and easy, i may have to simplify it in places and in others put a nice smooth layer of a clip brush over the top but it shouldn't be too bad. Shame about 21% clipnodes mind.
Boxed corridors are more than likely. As long as i have some areas of high quality then i'm not that fussed.

I commented on this in the past, and unfortunately the screens are too dark for these uni monitors so I don't really see much difference. I can't really comment till I see it on a good monitor.

WOA see what a Full moon does.. I better pull out my armor platted undies to post in this thread..
/Puts on metal under wear.
I see the images just fine.. the red wash with the title does skew the images to where alot of the cool detail is lost, but from what I can see, it looks damn nice. I like the green light up thing on the one wall, the red lights facing up.. are they lighting up that red texture or is that the same wash thing? I just noticed the upstairs area you have that is a bit obscured by the red title image.. looks like there is more to this map than you have shown.. cant wait to see what else there is..
The Red light wall at the end looks pretty spiffy.. is that water I see? I also like that texture for the hanging wire.. that is really cool.
I also like the way you added the lights to the stairs... very cool.. It has that Alien high tech look to it.. Id like to load the map up and take a look inside and walk around for a better view... will that be possiable any time soon?

Okay, a compile or two later with a couple of gamma changes and i present you with the new shots... except i'm not going to post them again  I just updated the orginial ones on the first page instead
Hope the people who liked it before still like it, hope the people who didn't like it before now like it and i hope that it's no longer to dark that you can't make out any details  Also i removed that crappy red blood thing in the corner. Feed me back por favor, and cheers!

If you want to play it i'm afriad you have a helluva of a wait and i wouldn't expect anything new from me on this map any time soon. It's a miracle i've found time in the last 2 days to even do these small changes to it. Luckily for me i've been really starting to get on top of the homework being set in a lot of my subjects and i decided to bunk a lesson today  But even then i've got revision, exams and then NW to worry about before this hits full dev and then give me 18 months to finish it properly  . Expect it around 2006

Its really sharp.. I look forward to playing it when It is released. Finnaly a good reason to install NS and try to learn how to play the game. =) I made a Windows Background from the images you posted.. Ill stick it in my Snark pit for DL.

Your map is sexy. And I likes me some fog. In fact, I'd like a tutorial on various ways to make fog.
EDIT: M$, as if NS wasn't a good enough game before to warrant its installation...?

The fog / haziness is just a cheap, hacky way of doing it. Basically an overscaled additive sprite thrown into the level. Yeah, that's right MrBen, I called it cheap and hacky!! Just like you!
(ground fog is probably just an animated texture or a func_conveyor with scrolling fog texture)

I thought I'd seen ground fog done once with an animated cloud texture very lightly on a block a bit above the ground, too...
