This thread does take a long time to load...
Anyway -- saw Written on the Wind (1957) last night... and I loved it. Rock Hudson is pretty f**king sweet.

Watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind again last night.
It's my favorite love story by far... and perhaps my favorite movie in
general. If you haven't seen it, go rent it now. It may be
confusing, but bear with it. If you don't like it, we can't be
friends anymore.

Just watches Chicken Little... better than I had expected. IT was
pretty funny, but kinda short. I think it was only like 1:15, but
it's still worth the watch.

I just watched Amores Perros the Mexican film nominated for an oscar and the winner of a bunch of other awards.
It was f**king intense. If you like animals, especially dogs, I don't think you can sit through it. I barely could.
Some of the ideas behind the movie were good, but the whole thing is so
messed up and depressing I can't really recommend it to anyone else,
and I kind of wish I hadn't watched it.

Was Orlando Bloom bearable in Kingdom of Heaven? I just can't
imagine him leading people into battle... he seems like such a wimp, so
I never ended up watching that movie. Did you like it?

Yeah, he's actually good. I mean, it's Ridley Scott, do you think he'd accept a s**tty performance?
As for the movie, it's alright. It's better if you understand the point of the movie. (Which isn't obvious to a lot of people.)
It's one of those movies where it's like ... see it ... but ... judge for yourself. I know a lot of people who loved it ... I know a lot of people that didn't. It has an assload of history in it. It's dramatized a little bit, but for the most part true.
Liam Neeson rocks ... as always.

First I want to clarify that I have no religious beliefs to alter my view of the movie. Not having one might effect my view but having one other than the movies base would have seriously done damage I think.
I did not chose my online handle haphazardly. I favor movies that portray the underdog in a positive way.
The movie took a average, yet intelligent commoner and placed him in a position to make a difference in his small piece of the worlds events. His battle strategies and his charisma at getting almost everyone to die for him was well incorporated into the film. The character portrayed in the lead had such an open minded viewpoint that he actually got the respect of his future opponents before the conflict ever began. The act of simply giving a horse to someone he thought of as just another human being was one such an example.
The historical value, as previously mentioned is another nugget of gold in respect to encouraging one to watch the film.
I would rate this movie just short of the greats like "The Ten Commandments" and "Ben Hur" in its scope. The battle scenes alone were such as to move one to tears when you take into account the magnitude of the death tolls rendered. We are talking about a time period of or around the crusades. The worlds population was sparse at the time yet the battles involved 200,000 on one side and about 40,000 or so on the other. I am unsure about the actual numbers but when you think of how underpopulated the world was then its amazing to consider numbers of that scope.
If I were you, I'd watch it simply to see what all the hub bub is about. Then you can judge for yourself.
There is no history until something happens, then there is.

I didn't like how they didn't really go into Salah ah-Din much. He was a naturally respectful man and the only person in history to unite the entire muslim world. Something they hinted on, but didn't go into.

Watched "Spanglish" today.
Sandler's attempt at breaking out of his stereotype is well done in this film. I liked it and recommend anyone should see it.

Watched Office Space (for probably the fourth or fifth time) on the
busride back from the swim meet yesterday. I think French Toast
recommended it earlier, but I wanted to second his endorsement.
It's not exactly an obscure film, and many people have probably already
seen it, but if you haven't go check it out.
Besides, maybe after seeing this movie you'll get the "TPS Reports" reference in the Source version of cs_office.

No, I commented on the movie, no one responded.
I loved it too.
"I'm not suppose to die!"
I'm glad someone else on Earth liked it besides me. I think I liked Robert Ebert's review most. Everything he complains about are gripes about the story of Doom and not the movie really. He also proclaims that because of the movie he will never play the game. I thought it was funny.

quite suspenseful, watch it!

Watched WotW today. I was truly impressed with the improved graphic for such an old storyline. They were not overdone like most remakes. I particularly like the fact that they did not rewrite it to suit the new mindsets for how movies "should be"
H.G. Wells needs no assistance IMO.

I don't think I could ever watch that movie without a great sound system. Seeing that in theaters was nothing short of an experience (Mind you, I don't give two s**ts about the characters  ). I'm glad Spielberg is putting DTS tracks on all DVD versions too

Careful, thats 2 for 2. People may think we are beginning to agree on something.
I did like the film though. I liked the old B/W version. Not as well as this but still, for its day it was alright.
I really, really want to see Potter #4. If I can find the time, I may locate a matin?e this weekend. Sadly, I have not learned my way around this town yet so I do not even know where the cinema is yet.

Yeah, "good" was a little strong. I should have said, "Not painful to watch".
He's definitly not a leading man. I wish he'd learn to act ... well ... and THEN get in movies.
Goddamn you Peter Jackson. LOTR made him look like a decent actor, because his pale, stiff as a board acting suited the character.

Wow, I was personally bored to sleep by Kingdom of Heaven. The first time I watched it I was baked out of my mind too, which should have made it interesting in itself. I assumed that because I was high I didn't get the point of the film, so I tried watching it sober, but I couldn't get past the first chapter before I turned it off. Weird considering it's a Ridley Scott film and all.

Watched the Alien Quadrilogy last week. Loved 'em all, the only part I
didn't like was the CG in the 3rd one, I hate all the tacky CG in the
early 90s movies. Granted I watched the director's cuts which in some
ways are subtly better. I had only seen the first two previously.
Saw AvP after I had seen the entire Alien and Predator series, I only
need to buy Pred 2 now and I'll leave AvP off my list for now. The
first half was pretty interesting, had potential to be alright, but the
last half was just garbage.

"Goblet of Fire" was the best Harry Potter movie released yet. It
did not follow the book that closely, which is a good thing.
Otherwise, the amount of story and detailed plot that the film has to
cover would have been overwhelming.
It's full of action, and it recreates the magical feeling that the
readers get from Rowling's books. Ralph Fienne is a fine
Voldemort.

A lame emo-boy band that wears heavy make up and sings that s**ty song
"Girls don't like boys girls like cars and money" and their entire fan
base consists of 11 year old girls who cry themselves to sleep at night
and then write about it in their MSN Spaces because nobody loves them
and it's the only way they can express their anger about how much their
life sucks.

Watched Pulp Fiction yesterday. Nice movie. Also rented out all Kevin Smith movies, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Clerks and Mallrats. Also nice movies IMO. Trying to get hold of Aqua Teen Hunger Force DVD's.

A few things.
I haven't seen KoH, but I don't think Orlando Bloom can hold a candle
to someone like Russel Crowe when it comes to the "men, follow me to
your death!" department. I mean, when I watch Gladiator I have
this urge to fight alongside Crowe. Like BlisTer said, I don't
think Bloom has the charisma needed for the role. He's such a
pretty boy wimp.
Speaking of Crowe, I made a friend of mine watch LA Confidential (1997)
with me and he loved it (like I knew he would). Definitely go out
and see this movie if you haven't.
I made a different friend watch Shaun of the Dead with me, and he
thought it was great. It's a great film on its own, but if you're
familiar with zombie movies and their conventions, it really enriches
the viewing of Shaun of the Dead.
I rented the DVD for The Office Season 1 (UK) the other day just to
rewatch it, and I immediately remembered why I loved it so much.
Such a great series, and it really gets good in Season 2, when Dawn and
Tim's relationship starts taking center stage.

Definitely fair enough.
The problem is, I just don't like Orlando Bloom. For no
legitimate reason. I just don't like the way he looks, moves, and
talks.
I also don't like Elija Wood (he's so good at playing the douche in
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind that I can't help but think he's
not acting), but it doesn't stop me from enjoying Sin City or Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless mind, because we are supposed to dislike
him. However, in the LoTR trilogy where he played a character we
were supposed to like, I couldn't help but make fun of Frodo throughout
the entire thing.
So, while rationally I know that I shouldn't let my feelings about
particular actors sway my opinion of movies (especially before I've
seen them) I find it hard to actually suppress my anti-Bloom prejudices.
So, KoH may be a good movie, but I don't think I'll be able to enjoy it
as much as I would if I didn't know who Orlando Bloom was. Just the fact that he's in it may prevent me from ever watching
it.

I know what you mean. I used to actually boycott movies if it had an actor I disliked. Tom Hanks. Everything before Forrest Gump was pure unadulterated crap. I actually refused to watch his movies. I have since reevaluated my opinion because of Gump and now enjoy his stuff. John Travolta, horrible actor before the movie where he was the angel? (cannot recall the name now). His movies now are much more tolerable. Nick Cage, everything before he played in Fatherhood or whatever it was where he had the second chance was crap. I now think that as long as he doesn't attempt to be macho, or tough that he does an excellent job.
So yes, I know what you mean.

Yeah, the only two actors I have a problem with are the ones I
mentioned. Actually, Keira Knightly kinda gets on my nerves for
being so skinny. I want her to eat something.
I checked IMDB and I think you were referring to Michael and The Family Man.

I hate Keira Knightly. SHe looks like she's trying to act like a fish by sucking in her cheeks or soomething.
I like Tom Hanks, he earned my respect after Castaway, that was an amazing performance.
