this is spinal tap was funny in its aim and message but the movie itself was really lame

except for the scene where the guitarists talks about his guitars and amps that makes it worth watching

Watched The Notebook last night. I have no clue as to how this movie slid past me but I am so glad I finally discovered it.

Yeah, The Notebook's not bad... for a chick flick. Some good lines in it, anyway. What I found weirdest about it is that I stayed awake through the whole thing and the girl I was with didn't. :/ Oh well.

Watched Domino last night, pretty cool flick, lots of ass-kicking and violence, and Keira Knightley's tits, not that they're big or spectacular or anything, but they ARE Keira Knightley's. Mostly about bounty hunting, but with a smidge of unorthodox feminism.

Best part in movie - "Remove his shirt, he's got the combo on his right arm" ... thanks to phone static, it becomes "Remove his right arm"

I've started watching the HBO original series "Entourage" which is
loosely based on Mark Wahlberg moocher friends who followed him to
hollywood.

Overall I like it. The film making isn't spectacular, and the
life it glamorizies kind of makes me sick, but at the same time the
characters are good. Drama and Turtle are great to laugh at, Ari
is fun to watch in action, and E is easy to identify with.

All the guest stars are fun to see in action, as it blurs the line
between reality and fiction and gives the show a metatheatrical style.

Worth checking out an episode or two if you haven't seen it yet.

I just watched Breathless: A bout de souffle (1960) for class and I didn't like it at all. 400 Blows was such a better watch.

I just watched in Theatre:
 • Date movie: Funny, but not TOO funny. It takes quite a bit to actually make me LOL. This didn't. Some parts were pretty funny and others were just like "WTF?"
 • Final Destination 3: I laughed more during this than during Date Movie. It was pretty cool. There was some nudity that really was not necessary. (Pretty much like ALL nudity in movies[except pr0n, which is centered around nudity]) There was some good killings, some innovative deaths, some hot girls and some funny lines. Pretty good.
 • The End of the Spear: A great film. I really liked it an It was one of those movies that just makes you THINK about it afterwards. I would advise you all to go see it. Because it r0x0red the most out of these 3 and out of most of the ones I've seen recently
I just watched on DVD:
 • Lord of War: Good movie! has some great stuff. Lots of Russian signs that add to the movie if you can read them, some are kinda funny and stuff. I like guns.
 • Waiting: That movie is SO great. All i can say is WATCH IT. and The game they play? yeah, we played that at church camp YEARS ago. Only our moves were called "the smashed thumb," and "the turkey breast."

I tried sniffing coke, but the ice cubes kept getting stuck in my nose.

I've just seen EuroTrip. Although I did laugh a couple of times, the
humor in this movie is a little trashy (and this coming from an Al
Bundy fan; that says a lot). The Bratislava and Vatican scenes had me
rolling on the floor though.

I just watched the first half of Lord of War because of so many positive recommendations on this site.

I normally don't like to split a movie into seperate viewings, but
right now I'm just watching it alone and its very hard for me to enjoy
a film unless I'm watching it with friends. With that in mind,
I'm going to rewatch/finish this with some guys this weekend.

So far in the first hour all the setting up is making me queesy. I have a feeling the s**ts just about to hit the fan...

So I started the movie over and watched it with 3 friends, and to tell
you the truth I didn't enjoy it. The lines in the movie were
really quite bad, and Nicolas Cage's acting was sub par. I'd say
the best acting was done by the guy who played Simian, and the guy who
played the role of the Liberian president. Ethan Hawke is one
ugly motherf**ker to top it all off.

Anyway -- there was a good message at the end, but the script and the
acting really ruined it for me. All my friends felt the same way
too, I'm not just being a movie snob

I just saw Kurt Wimmer's UltraViolet. You probably shouldn't do the same.
Not that the movie looked good or anything like that, but even then it was lame (overall). It starts out very powerfully and is quite acceptable for the scenario it sets up (live action comic book, and hyper-real society) ... then they try to build character ... sigh. The first half of the movie is at the very least: very entertaining. But, it tumbles into a forced emotional storyline, which is sad, because the movie its self is quite beautiful to look at. Everything is done really well ... except the plot. There are darker story lines Wimmer should have explored in this, it had the set up and the means.

I suppose if you can put yourself into a coma for the unbearable 15 minutes of dialog and story building that's throughout the movie, then it'd be worth a ... rental ... if your rental prices aren't too high, that is.

In other words, his other hyper-sci-fi-rip-off Equilibrium is Oscar worthy in comparison. Really sad, actually.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I watched half of Undead today. The Aussie zombie flick with the
triple shotgun and girl with the gas mask. I only watched half of
it because it just wasn't doing it for me, and I usually like zombie
movies.

Some of it was funny, and I liked how it was over the top, but I
couldn't deal with the characters... especially the bug-eyed heroine.

I wouldn't recommend it.

But ... but ... I didn't want a plot! I wanted the hyper-real action scenes (don't be fooled they're there) It's just sad, because it sets it up really well to be something cool ... then s**ts on it.

Undead takes a little while, then it gets pretty damn funny. You can't expect a zombie movie though ... if you want one of those watch Shaun/Dawn of the Dead.

Speaking of which, I'm looking forward to the Day of the Dead remake. Looking at what they did for Dawn of the Dead, I'm excited. (If you don't think the 2004 remake is better, then you're a fanboy and not a fan of zombies, there's no other explanation)

The old romero movies are hard for me to sit through. It's just
hard to suspend disbelief. Although I still need to see the

I liked the 2004 remake, I thought it was very entertaining, and the post credits ending was awesome.

I might give UltraViolet a shot - looked better than Aeon Flux to me from the trailer (not that I had the highest opinion of Aeon Flux!), and I'm happy to put up with some less than stellar scenes in order to get my fix of over the top action  I won't say you didn't warn me though Crono  Is it better then RE:Apocalypse at least? Even the action in that was s**t

Watched Serenity last night, and we all really enjoyed it. Ordered the Firefly series too, as the film really did drag me in. I was tempted to pick up the series first to get it all in the correct order, and I somewhat wish I had so as to have a bit more of an emotional investment for the film, but I'm sure the series will be great regardless. My only real niggle with the film was that some of the characters were somewhat ignored or portrayed with only one facet, which I'm sure is more of byproduct of it being just an average length film than the characters being that bland or shallow. I hope the series goes a bit deeper into each of the characters, which I'm sure it will given that a series has far more potential to do so. Awesome action scenes, stylish CG, and a great personality.

I'm gonna skip Ultraviolet and opt for V for Vendetta instead. I'm going to see it tomorrow or the day after methinks.

Anyways, just finished Orange County. Jack Black kicks ass. Watching Shaun of the Dead tomorrw.

No, the action is f**king awesome (Except the end scene: cool idea ... but it just looks like everyone stopped caring). Aeon Flux is a better movie though. By leaps and bounds. I'd say it's better than Apocalypse. Let's put it this way ... the dialog is the only thing I shook my head at, otherwise, I was fully and thoroughly entertained. Also, I heard some stuff about the next two RE movies. If done better than the last one, they have the potential to be pretty cool. (Check out superherohype.com and read the interview with Mila on UltraViolet, if you're interested)

I hope I'm not disappointed by V, I mean, if that movie gets screwed up as bad as LXG did ... well ... let's just say you'll all hear about it. (Note: I love the Alan Moore, David Lloyd Book.) I really do hope it's good. It'll give me high hopes for the adaptation of The Watchmen. (Which I love more than V)

When does V for Vendetta come out there? It's out here on the 17th ...

Reno, it's too late, Firefly is really good ... but ... you got all the answers before you even had questions ... so you probably wont like it as much. (I enjoy FireFly more than the movie, however. Just seeing the battle in Serenity valley is awesome) You really forget you're watching a TV show, honestly. Insanely high production value.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

After some prodding from Crono I finished off Undead.

I liked the "classic sci-fi" feel it had to it... which isn't something
I can put my finger on but probably stems from the soundtrack and the
over-the-top story. I didn't think the story was very compelling
though, and the movie overall was stuck somewhere between the A and B
movie genres.

I still wouldn't recommend the movie, and I think the coolest part overall was just the cover of the DVD.

For those of you who are curious, here's what it looks like:
http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0339840/Ss/0339840/undead.jpg?path=gallery&path_key=0339840

Edit: I just
realized what I didn't like about Undead. The movie alternated
too much between horror and comedy, never really pulling off
either. The movie needed to commit to one type of movie, either
go for the Dawn of the Dead (2004) style or the Shaun of the Dead
style. This wishy washy s**t didn't cut it.

Serenity was good but you had to have watched the series to know everything that went on. 9 original characters leaves alot of room for story telling. When you get the box set, look on the back. Theres a picture of Adam Baldwin holding a rifle. I took that and submitted it to fireflyfans.net. It somehow wound up on the box set. Make sure you watch the two hour pilot titled "Serenity" First. Then watch train Job. It was the second pilot ordered by FOX, because someone upstairs did'nt like the first one.

(PS. The two hour pilot was the most expensive one made in FOX history at about 10 to 12 million total including re-shoots)

Serenity the movie was fanfreakingtastic to say the least.

I am curious, if I were to buy everything associated with this (assuming its all in disk now) what should I be looking for Juim?

How many box sets are there to this?

and, if you've bought them already, what was the pricetag?

Consider, they do not have these in the video store so I won't be borrowing them. I will have to buy them. So don't consider this a ploy to help me borrow.

I watched the new Appleseed movie tonight, and really enjoyed it. It was a tad slow in places (dwelling on some points, essentially just repeating them 3 or 4 times, got on my nerves a bit) and some action scenes didn't live up to others, but in general it was excellent. I really liked the cel-shaded visuals - it definately retained the anime feel despite being entirely CG - and it had a (mostly) cool soundtrack to back it up. I felt the use of the Basement Jaxx song "Good Luck" was perfect and entirely surprising in particular  Any anime fans should definately check it out.

I watched Hiroshima Mon Amour
(1959)
this afternoon for my French New Wave film class.

I liked it better than Breathless, but not nearly as much as 400 Blows
(those were the other 2 French New Wave films we've had to watch so
far).

My favorite part about the movie was the way Resnais didn't do the shot
reverse shot often. Usually he let us just watch the conversation
unfold while focusing on one person's face during most of it. I
really liked that, because its often said that acting isn't what you do
when you're delivering your lines, but what you do when others are
delivering theirs, and I loved watching the main actor/actress react to
each other.

There were also some really fantastic shots along the river in Hiroshima.

The one French woman among the multitudes of Japanese reminded me a lot
of Lost In Translation. Now I want to go and rewatch Lost In
Translation.

Overall -- I wouldn't recommend this movie to the casual movie
goer. If for some reason you like French New Wave but have yet to see
this, it's in the Criterion Collection for a reason

Watched House of Wax the other night mostly because Elisha Cuthbert's in it... seemed to be the quintessential teen horror movie, i.e. hot chicks, blood, stuff that's more gory than scary, and stupid teenagers.

Paris Hilton's character gets killed via pole through the head, which made me think "That's not the first pole she's had in her head!"

I just finished watching Land
of the Dead
and I have to say it was much better than I
expected. The dialogue and acting were both good in my opinion,
and while I couldn't really watch the gorier bits (like where you watch
as people get ripped to shreds by zombies) I could enjoy the gunfire
parts, for some reason.

Anyway -- if you like zombie movies I would recommend it... although be
warned its a much happier zombie movie (once you see it you'll know
what I mean) compared to say, the Dawn of the Dead remake that came out
a few years ago.

My top 3 zombie movies would have to be:

I wouldn't, Land of the Dead was a ridiculous movie. Maybe he changed something amazing between the theatrical and DVD cut, but, last time I checked, that movie sucked donkey balls. The entire plot of zombies becoming smart: LAME!

There are so many flaws in it too. Besides the zombie learning to get revenge ... God what a f**king terrible movie, how in God's name could you think it's good? Seriously, that is just beyond me.

I HATE THAT MOVIE. I hope George Romero never makes another movie, period. Which has already been denied, since he's making "Diamond Dead" and wrote "The Crazies", which are both takes on zombies ... again ...
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Running Scared - wow Paul walker surprised me here. He finally made a good movie. I recommend it.

16 Blocks - good acting from Bruce. Decent movie.

Personally -- I felt that the changes he made were good, they (pardon
the pun) breathed some life into a stale genre, just as the fast
zombies from 28 Days Later did. Which reminds me, 28 Days Later
is in my top 4 somewhere, maybe in front of Land of the Dead.

I just enjoyed having a different zombie experience. I don't know
if you're a zombie purist or what, but the acting, script,
cinematography were all above average (Dennis Hopper was awesome by the
way, and John Leguizamo was better than he usually is in movies, ie.
Precinct 13... blech) so I don't see where you can really criticize the
movie. If you don't like the changes he made to the zombie
formula and that ruined it for you, I can understand. But I liked
the changes, the scenario (human cities surviving with a system of
protection, and the idea of fiddler's green), the acting, the lines,
the special effects, the pacing, and the pure entertainment of it all.

I just really enjoyed watching it... and it didn't drag like Undead did.

The idea of the city was good. The gore was decent. The Zombie's learning was stupid ... just like it was stupid in Day of the Dead. I like Dennis Hopper too, he was the best part of the movie. The entire plot of the movie could have been better. And no, the acting wasn't good in the least. The only thing worse was the dialog.

Undead wasn't meant to be serious. If Land of the Dead was meant to be a joke, I wouldn't be so hard on it. Because ... it's pretty damn stupid, to be perfectly honest.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

shrug I liked the dialogue and the acting. It was better than the dialogue in 28 Days Later anyway.

I watched Citizen Kane
last night, for the first time. Not really out of interest, but
because I got chastized in one of my film classes for never having seen
it before.

I liked the shots in the beginning with the stark lighting and the
smoke. I liked how deep some shots were. I also liked the
long takes and the fluid mobile camerawork. But overall, I didn't
enjoy the story or find the movie very entertaining. I like Joe
Cotton as an actor (watch
Shadow of a Doubt and
you will too) but I didn't really like the other characters. The
women were just downright irritating.

Anyway -- I wouldn't watch it unless you're a wannabe film buff

I just watched I Heart
Huckabees
and I have to say I enjoyed the middle bits the most...
the parts where Mark Wahlberg and Jason Schwartzman are hanging out
together.

Overall -- it was a pretty zany movie. I'm not sure how I feel
about it... but I don't regret watching it, but I wouldn't buy it.

Splashed out on the 8 disc box set of This Life, an ace TV series from the 90s. Should keep me occupied for a while  Did anyone else ever watch it? Everyone I know seems to have heard of it but never seen it.
Hello there.

I'm not a general anime fan but there are a few that are just so wonderfully weird. Saw "Mindgame" yesterday and it's a total mindf**k. I didn't get a thing but it's just so far away from anything you'd see in a western movie that I actually enjoyed it.

Today was a lazy day. Watched several movies.

"Walk the line" Much better than I imagined it would be considering the topic.
"Yours, Mine and Ours" Great remake.
"Monte Walsh" Great Western.
"What Lies Beneath" Never thought Harrison Ford could pull off this type of movie. Very out of character.
"Dark Water" Great Movie. 'Nuff said.

The best things in life, aren't things.

I just watched Band of
Outsiders
for a paper I have to write. It's a French New
Wave film by Godard. A few bits I liked, but overall this movie
really dragged for me.

Tomorrow morning I have to go back and watch choice bits so I can take enough notes to support a paper. :S
