I really like the entire Arctic Monkey's debut album.

I'm handing it out like candy to all my friends who I think might like it. Spreading their music like a virus over here.

I listened to Bone Thugz N Harmony when I was ... 13. Stopped when I was 14 or 15.

Now I'm getting back into them. They make me laugh.

My Chemical Romance - Black Parade. Pretty good, will probably be a grower, its a bit over the top though :smile: Quite a departure from their 1st two albums (which are some of my favourite albums btw, recommend checking them out too.). So chuffed they got a no1 single. Its not the sort of thing I would expect on top of the charts but its good to see.

Daft Punk - Discovery

I remember the totally over-kitsched Anime music videos (that somehow form a storyline over the whole album) which actually even fit the music quite well. I didn't touch the album, though, because the whole thing was too weird, too... colorful...

But now, a few years later, I listen to the album all day. Great, hypnotic songs.

I listened to Discovery recently as well, I enjoy it. I also got the Daft Punk Musique Vol. 1 2-disc set dealy, some good stuff.

I've been listening to The Tragically Hip's "Yer Favourites" which is well, favourites. Not sure how much exposure they get abroad but they have some great songs.

Funny you should mention Richard Cheese - I was just introduced to his music today. He's done some truly inspired covers :biggrin: For those of you who haven't come across him before, he takes popular modern music (from Madonna and Coldplay, to Rage Against the Machine and The Offspring) and turns it into cheesy, sleazy lounge-lizard jazz.

Also been listening to the new album by The Ordinary Boys, and really enjoying it. I was suprised they brought out a followup to Brassbound so quickly, but I guess they wanted to cash in on Preston's Big Brother / quick-fire marriage fame. Still, putting scepticism aside it's a decent album, full of quirky and fun rocky/poppy ska tunes.

Hokay, so...

Last night at a party my buddy put on "Muse - Knights of Cydonia" and that intrigued me.

I did a little research, and some digging around their myspace site (I don't have myspace, but I've quickly learned its the best way to check out new bands since you can stream up to 4 tracks) and then on an impulse I bought their newest album "Black Holes and Revelations" via the iTunes music store.

So yes. I haven't listened to all of it yet, but this little iTunes write-up for one of their older albums seems to sum their sound up nicely: They combine "the emotional intensity of Radiohead, a rock thunder descended from Black Sabbath, and the baroque drama of Queen." Interesting mix if you ask me.

They have a really unique sound which I'm digging right now. I don't know whether to laugh at them for their over-the-top posings, or just nod my head to the beat when they start rocking out.

The only other song I had heard before was "Time is Running Out" and while I liked the build-up to the chorus I felt like the first verse was too... radiofriendly / girly. What I like about this album so far is that I can't imagine any radiostations playing these songs around here... at least not the normal stations :smile:

Dir en Grey, wow, that's a band I completely forgot about.
Iced Earth is pretty amazing. Listen to the "Gettysburg' tracks.. which will take you about a half an hour to listen to, if I remember. I think it's in three parts. Have any of you metalheads heard of In Flames or Opeth?

I just heard a song by Dir en Grey for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and since then I've heard them mentioned half a dozen times or so. I find that quite strange, as their not a band I would have thought to be at all popular outside of Japan. Bit too heavy for my tastes though.

I'm gonna disagree on a technicality there BvS. You see, I'd put Pantera as the best Heavy Metal or Grunge Metal band, but a band like Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath easily wins the metal category. You may not thing of them as such, but that is still their labeled genre.

Loves Opeth, In Flames, Pantera.
Listening to alot of instrumentals lately from the likes of
Pelican and Explosions in the Sky.

I cant call led zeppelin metal.. theyre more just.. rock. old rock at that.

for me metal is characterized by fast guitars, harsh vocals, fast drums, and just plain insanity.

Well now it's fairly light, and people tend to group it in Classic Rock, which it is not. Classic Rock is stuff like Elvis Presley, and groups like Zep, Hendrix, Sabbath shoudln't be grouped there. Psychedelic Rock is sometimes used...

Ive heard a little of it. But i still favor Opeth over any band simply because of the diversity they have. they can go from all out metal to soft and it sounds natural. not to mention Mikael ?kerfeldt's superb composing and music writing skills..

I used to absolutely adore Reel Big Fish, but their last album was a disappointment for me, and to be honest listening to their older stuff again I simply don't enjoy it the same way I used to. Wish I did though - I had a great time skanking away at an RBF concert once. Got so into it in fact that I tried to get on stage from a crowd surf. Earnt me a punch from one of the bouncer types and a quick dismissal through the back door. Couldn't run around to the front door before the bouncers told the doormen not to let me in again either :sad: Ah well, fun times!

Actually, he did that at the show I was at. A good friend of mine was answering all of them since we were in the second or third row.
