You know, two things , three things I hate about Quake 3. You walk so fast you may as well be teleporting, the weapons all seem as powerful as eachother, exept the chaingun, that sucks and Bitterman!

Anyway it is a popular game I know. And my brother is always challangeing me in lan games of quake 3. I always kick his ass

Q3 is all about twitch gaming. There's very few better, if that's
what you're into. If you slowed down the movement speed, it would
suck.

lol I hate game boy advance. I used to have an sp and a ds and I can't believe I thought they where good. I favoured them over my laptop and get this right, I thought that metroidprime on ds was better than halo :O. Now I would consider metroidprime on ds thee worst game I have ever played in my life. I just wanna vomit when I see that game. And all this was about four years ago.

Now I have never playin Unreal Tournament but a friend gave me a video on it and I thought OMG this game sucks. It was like a trailer and they where showing quick snippets of gameplay with this voice over guy with a deep voice saying in the background: "Using the power of the unreal engine" "New weapons" "New vehicles" all that sort of stuff (I cant quite remember) and it made the game look bad. I hate trailers like that. However if you look at the Halo 3 Announcement Trailer ....

I just wish they could slow down those type of games to hl2 speed so you have a little time to think and use skillz. Gameplay that quick i'd say its all about chance. Where you walk, how many guys there, who's attacking who. Even the noobs have a chance at winning. But theres one good thing. Campers have no chance at gameplay that fast.

The system doesn't make the game, the game makes the system.
Golden Sun on the GBA is better than most RPG games for other, more powerful systems.

Now here's one for the nostalgics out there. Descent, Doom, and Wolfenstein 3D compared to...I dunno, what's a console FPS you can think of?

Speaking of Doom, I downloaded that the other day ( I wanted to see the game that started it all ) and dosbox so that it would work on xp and yes the game makes the system, but it seems that the games that ninteno are rolling out these days are crap. I liked it back in the 64 days. Now that stupid Wii. Ergh

Forceflow: I got Steam working through Wine in SuSE once, but there were some serious performance and stability problems with the games. IIRC Half-Life worked okay as long as it didn't crash, but anything on Source was unplayable. What are you using to run Steam and have you had better luck?

I would, personally, say that the Nintendo 64 was the most disappointing Nintendo system (besides the Virtual Boy). But that's probably because I grew up with the NES and SNES and nothing on the 64 can even compare to some of the awesomeness created for those two systems. There are games on GameCube, and now Wii, that throwback to that style. At least they're starting to feel like they used to. Back when games were fun and not a popularity contest.

Whenever I get a Debian/Ubuntu box up and running I think I'll try out one of those source releases of Cedega. It's suppose to have pretty nice support for HL2.

I got my new laptop in the mail yesterday, while the laptop it self is something sweet, I am so far very unimpressed by Windows Vista (Home Premium). With in the first 2 hours of using the OS I had a corrupted user and a BSOD (they were unrelated) and endless complications with encrypted wireless.
It's like the first time I've actually thought, "maybe I should run Windows update ...".
The other thing that's really bugging me is that not only is Vista 32-bit, it doesn't optimize dual core. Tsk tsk. Setting everything to both cores is so ridiculous and optimizes nothing, nor can you move over important tasks to another core once they've began.

So, what was the big push here exactly?
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I'm using Cedega (built from CVS), and I set it in win2000 mode. GoldSource games run perfectly, but source games performance is a bit icky. I blame the crappy fglrx drivers.

The big push is the same as it was for WinME Crono. LOOK PRETTY COLORS! IT'S SHINY AND NEW SO YOU SHOULD BUY IT FOR X00 DOLLARS. What kills me is that one of the major features windows has lacked since windows was windows, a root-esque password protection on making changes to the system, gets turned off by almost all Vista power users because it gets tripped erroneously more often than it prevents an action its meant to.

I read an article a couple months ago about how Microsoft was heralding UAC as an 'industry-leading innovation'. Yeah... right, bring your OS up to par is neither industry-leading nor innovative.

Thanks for the Cedega CVS tip guys, I'll try it out tonight. Any luck getting Hammer up and running, by any chance?

Anyone who's watched poker on tv for five minutes has already seen ten
dozen commercials for that site, plus endorsements in the form of
hats/tshirts/temporary tattoos from a good half the field. This
thread is for things that you recently found that others probably have
not found. Obscure online puzzle games count. Massive
online poker tournament sites with a huge national advertising campaign
do not count.

To make an analogy, that post is similar to coming on here and saying,
"I just found this cool new sports drink called Gatorade and it's
delicious. Go to http://www.gatorade.com and enjoy!" I
mean, anyone here into drinking sports drinks has heard of
Gatorade. And most of those not.

Err, are you threatening to create a one-man account army? Cause, uh, don't.

And personally, I've given up on playing games because they're
jaw-dropping beautiful. They usually run like s**t and/or
disguise poor gameplay and always cost me tons of money both in retail
pricetag and hardware. The game I play most these days is a
cartoony MMORPG/Puzzle hybrid that runs in Java. Call me Sweden

Puzzle Pirates

http://www.puzzlepirates.com

Many of the puzzles are surprisingly deep reintepretations of popular
Popcap games... Bilging/Treasure Haul = Bejeweled, Drinking = Alchemy,
Brawling = Dinomite, Sailing = Dr. Mario (I Know it's not
Popcap). The graphics aren't on par with what the status quo for
good graphics are, but they don't try to be. It's all cutesy
cartoon style.

Recently, I ran across a site called Skill City, that seems to be taking the same idea and making it as s**tty as possible.

I'd like to stretch my muscles and introduce myself to more independent
gaming, but for right now, I'm still wrapped up in this, ZSNES, MAME,
and Civ III. I've got the itch to pull out the HL1 and do some
retro-mapping as well.
