It is "general banter", and most of the active posters hear don't even map much anymore. Good debates, whether or not they are belligerent and or stupid, are the life blood of a speech based community. It keeps people interested.
Reality has become a commodity.

They don't map any more? why not?
Speaking of Mapping if I add a 3D sky box to my map does it have to have the other skybox still?

muhnay, this community is about more than mapping, it's about a bunch of guys that we feel we can talk to about whatever we want as well, that's they way the pit has always been
if you want to talk about mapping we have forums for that general banter, as stated previously, is just for that
and yes a lot of us have been off of mapping for various reasons, I haven't mapped in years, just haven't found the inspiration, am lazy and useless, I dunno
either way, I stick around anyway because you're all my boys

You know it's interesting you should say what your grandma told you, because even though I don't agree that we shouldn't discuss everything, because the Pit is a bunch of great people, back a couple of years ago, I had to quit my philosophy class which I had elected to do as a subject, because the majority of the class hated me just for my views.
Eg. Scenario 1:
You are in a jungle somewhere in a remote part of the world, and you come across an old friend who you were very close to. He is now a part of the secret service and is about to assassinate 20 innocent people. You tell him to stop, and he says to you, "Ok I will not kill anyone, on the condition that you shoot one of them"
I said that there is no way I'd pull the trigger at an innocent person, and the entire class disagreed and disliked me since.
Scenario 2:
Should IVF be legal for lesbians?
I answered no, because I believe that a child has a right to a parent of each gender because parents are the primary role models for children, and they should be exposed to both, so they will know how to treat both genders with proper respect. I also added that I am against gay marriage, and afterwards my entire class hated me so much, I was left with no choice but to withdraw from the class.
So what I'm trying to say with these two things is, sometimes it's good to discuss all opinions we have, given that we know the type of people we're dealing with. Sometimes, however, people can be very cruel, and it's good to remain uninvolved.
I sincerely believe that The Snarkpit members are a great deal more mature than my 'year 10 philosophy' class ever was, and we can engage in any discussion without having daggers for each other. And so in my opinion, any topic put forward by anyone on The Pit should be welcomed with further discussion and own opinions, regardless of how diverse they may be.

I have a question for the masses. Im not really even sure what the argument is against gay marriage. Is is moral based (marriage is b/t man and a woman)? Or is it economical (it would be bad if gay couples had tax rights)?

I don't care if Gay people marry or not. It does seem to come from a religious aspect, even marriage does since most are performed in a church. So it that regards why do gay people want to be where they are not accepted, why do they feel they need to have a parade, why do they feel they have to shove their life style down every ones throat? Just be who you are and stop trying to get anyone to accept you.
Now to toss a wrench in.. If gay is a gene, and we have mapped them out, I don't think there will be any gay people in the future. They can isolate that gene and kill it, but I think the first step maybe to abort... before we get to that level of gene alteration.

Larchy, that is a great VID.. who are those guys? I lived in Gulfport Mississippi during Katrina. I worked at a little Casino in Biloxi called treasure bay in security. The difference between Mississippi and Louisiana is we were hit harder by the hurricane than N.O. and yet we are much furth along in our repairs. But yeah man, that about explains the South... to a T.
Personal Story. I had a high School Principal whisper across a large desk... "THIS IS A MOSTLY BLACK SCHOOL, MAYBE YOU SHOULD LOOK INTO A PRIVATE SCHOOL. ALL NIGGERS HERE." and then she slumped back in her chair like it was never said. But right now the Hispanic population is being teamed up on in the South.. they are not wanted by either of the old school camps.. Black & White.

We've talked a lot about politics and religion on these forms. Every moderator we've ever had, including Leperous, has taken part in those discussions. At one point, you would see a new gigantic, theater-filled thread about homosexuality or Christianity about once every other month.

I have a difficult time debating any particular moral or political issue because I have a hard time saying what morality and justice are in the first place. You don't have to be a philosopher to notice that we often take for granted the ethical assumptions we rest our political arguments on. People will argue until they can't feel their lips that a decision violates someone's rights, or that it's what God wants, or what have you. But you will never hear someone ask the more substantive question: What does it matter whether anyone's rights are respected are not? — Better yet, what are rights, and why should we believe we have them? As for God — what is His will? How do we know? And why should we take it into account when making decisions?

Hey, it's General Banter. That means anything goes!
And man, sometimes I agreed with Orpheus' stance on an issue, but i was embarrassed to say so because of his reason for thinking it. It's like:
Orph: Women get paid less than men on average.
Nickel: well, I agree wi--
Orph: BECAUSE THEY PEE FROM THEIR BUTTS!
