lmao, that's a good one!

Have you guys watched The Walking Dead TV series yet? It's showing on AMC. The first two episodes have already aired, and they are pretty awesome! They did a really good job with the zombies. The first episode is on Hulu.com (if you live in the U.S.) the second, can be found elsewhere... -Although I'm told it will be on Hulu as well, but I'm not sure.

Amazing! I hope George Romero is twitching after watching this (considering his last film: "Survival of the Dead").

As long as you do not take credit for them, you can add them in your profile as prefabs or somesuch. Its been done before with the tools and Worldcraft and the like.

Due to my internet connection only having 3 gigs a month I have all my computers set to manual downloads for Steam and windows.. I woke up this morning and while I was perusing Snarkpit I noticed my connection was rather slow. I look at my connection and some freaking how windows reset itself to auto-update. Anyone know how that can happen? I'd really like to have confidence that its going to stay manual until I want it done.

With all the Steam updates (which I have yet to complete) I used 2.5 gigs of my 3 and that left only 500 megs to last until Janurary 13th.

Any insights would be appreciated.

If you go into the settings and turn automatic updates off entirely, it will only prompt you when updates exist. If it's not doing that, then you did something wrong, it's like one thing that actually works in Windows.

taps foots slowly

Dood, I been workin with windows since the 3.1 days. What I cannot understand is how it turned itself back on. Its been off since I got the net 3 weeks ago. Today, it was back on.

I figure I musta did something inadvertently. There's no way windows would rebel and turn its auto-update back on after I specifically told it NOT TO!

Unfortunately, I didn't do anything but boot up this morning. I didn't even realize it was on at first.

Anywho's I turned it completely off this time. No notification nonsense this time. (for which I had to look at that message every stinkin morning for 3 weeks.)

Perhaps.. Riven suggested I get windows live to make it easier for me to talk to people instead of relying on Steam. When I noticed how freaking large the download was gonna be for it I stopped it. That was the only change I made the day before. I had, as I stated, used all my internet usage I could afford to waste on steam already and had downloaded nothing since Christmas.

Perhaps you're right.

OMG, I finally found it! :flail: The old formula for the snarkmark system originally implemented by Leperous:
Leperous said:
ye olde mystical majikal formula:

snarkmarks = ceil[5*(#tutorial or map comments) + 10*(#tuts)*(#average tut rating) + 5*(#answered qs in editing forum) + [(#forum posts)+(5*(#topics started))]*(#your user rating) + 10*(#average map rating)*(#no.of maps you've made)] + (#profile hits)
Now, if that doesn't make you laugh about how complicated it was and horribly inflationary, then this might:
Vash said:
You had 280 snarkmarks squrrial, then i rated u a 5 and it went up to 1460.

Lolage.
I found the thread here: http://www.snarkpit.net/index.php?s=forums&f=1&t=49&no=4160

Be glad of several things:

1. Lep reset the post counter every version. I have posted somewhere between 30,000 and 50,000 times. That translates to a whopping Snarkmark total.

2. He lowered the value of a post. I had 3 or 4 thousand Snarkmarks at one time. They dropped dramatically. I always thought that if he had left them as they were, more people would have posted more often. Might have stopped this slump a whee bit.

3. He changed the map scoring because people with lots of maps had the benefit of being rated on only one map but it acted like ALL THE MAPS HAD SCORED WELL. It made people like Doc Rock seem awesome, when we know that's not really true.

4. And finally, guess who thought up the reward system to begin with... Yup.
/me bows.

There was talk bantered around for that. Things like you could become a moderator of a forum, or even work up to an admin. You could win a game, or a few other things I cannot recall. There were supposed to be benefits of some kind for why else have have them.

You gotta understand that the original intent was for the Snarkmarks to be used like a wall of fame type deal. It originally was to motivate members to contribute to this site. Assisting in answering questions, making maps, Writing reviews and so forth. Sadly it went askew because any outsider could post some maps here, get someone to rate them and presto they were a somebody. After you notice that a nobody cold do that without helping a soul here, people lost interest. Anyway, the idea didn't pan out cause Lep lost interest.

I've been meaning to post this for a while but kept forgetting. For my American compatriots if you have a Pilot truck stop near by check out their game selections. They are carrying a bunch of PC and console games now. I dunno about console but the PC games are fairly newish looking. I saw several that recommended dual core. The PC games are 14.99 so it seems a good deal.

Also, Flying J is part of Pilot now so they might be carrying the games as well.

Money, head down to exit Zero and see if that J has anything good.

You're gonna have to be patient. I am still digesting you being civilized.

Personally I'd be tickle pink if people would give more thought into a name before they spread themselves all over the net. Took me a very long time to get used to Dave being Twoknives after years of Alien_Sniper. As far as I'm concerned you're still MoneyShot. I'll process the new information eventually.

[EDIT] I am here at the Wichita Falls Flying J and they have some games too so maybe its common now. They looked pretty cool so I suggest you guys find a Pilot or Flying J.

Well if were going with new names, I am now known as G4MER most places online, lol. I dropped Moneyshot for MuhnayShot, then to Muhnay because too many people felt Muhnayshot was a porn ref. and did not like the name on game servers... So I became G4MER, as it is what I am to the core anyways. I just stayed Muhnay on the Pit because well it is what I signed up for and did not want to go with the whole name change problems, and I set my projects up under Muhnay Media, but even that has changed to WetWorx with the wife and her great abilities at model making.

So I dont know if I should just stay with the Muhnay name here or beg Riven to change it to G4MER now. HAHAHA!

Kane and Lynch is not a bad game. Jericho is terrible. You are Empty, you'd probably like, it hasn't evolved past the Doom 1 mentality of FPS.

Flatout is fun for about five minutes, there are better PC car related games. Like Split Second!

Orph, Kane and Lynch is pretty cool, the others not heard of before. Death track sounds like deathrace 2000 and that maybe cool. I wonder if Treasure Island is anything like 7 cities of gold, I loved that game. Jericho has me curious as well.

[DISCLAIMER]: Thanks for pointing that out Orph; please don't regard the following comment as an attack against your supposed beliefs or anything personal. I'm taking this opportunity to comment on the subject of astrology alone.

I don't understand why people still worry about their Zodiac signs. It's some Bronze Age myth that has never been proven and feeds people's egos. People spend a lot of money on this stuff every year, and local newspapers have been known to make it a point to print a section for it. It's feeding a supernatural tendency that has no merit. I say wash it down with a healthy dose of reason and science, and move along about your life. Recognize it for what it has always been, and treat it as such. ;)

I'd be interested to know why they added an extra zodiac sign.

Plus I'm doubtful anyone here believes in astrology, we're all fairly technically savvy people. :geek:

I read the other day that a few astronomers recently found out that the all those newspaper horoscopes and such have been very inaccurate (date and position wise) for the last 50 years or so.

I wish I could remember where I read about this, I would post a link or something.
Now remember kids. Asking questions is a good way to get censored by the government.

Hah well well.

The game looks like it'll be a fun, the Duke Nukem kind, and some of those levels look pretty interesting. I laughed at 2:17 and 2:28.

I wish Gearbox had gotten the rights to the content and code already produced during the life cycle from 3D Realms. I really would have liked to see a Collector's Edition dubbed, "Duke Nukem Forever Anthology" with all the different playable builds. There's at least two near full built games outside of the Gearbox version that's coming out.

I hear'ya bud but at this point I think we should be glad its coming out at all.

With the first version made with the Quake engine and the second with the Unreal engine its about time the released it before they discovered yet another engine and we don't see anything till 2020 this time.

I'm surprised they didn't swap over to the engine used in Stalker Clearsky.
