Yeah that last bit is quite true, it would be nice to be able to sort the map database by date added or date modified.

Date added you can look at by the map's ID number...

Like, err this? http://www.snarkpit.com/maps.php?game=HL&mod=&sort=date

Yes, yes just like that in fact  It turns out I was thinking of the reviews page, where you can't sort by date. I think it would be nice to be able to see the newest reviews, although obviously at the current idle state of the reviews page its not an issue.

Bug to fix - when logged out and clicking on the ::Maps:: option at the page top, the browser pops up a dialog error window after 20 seconds or so - "Redirection limit for this URL exceeded. Unable to load the requested page". It affects Moz and IE.

Suggestion - the "about:faq...search" bar at the page bottom is out of the way and easily missed. It needs to be more noticeable or incorporated into the "map editing:maps" menu at the page top. Will prolly be easier to nav the site if theres a single menu bar.

The New Maps section at the left side only displays 4 maps, its easy to miss new maps or if 4+ maps get posted at the same time. Maybe increase it or use another page with last 16 maps on.
Fixed, thinking about, sorted (check prefs)

When will we be able to write reviews ourselves ? I think there's a lot of review potential in here, enough experience.

Idea:

I would like to see a system implemented, that follows a map, from inception to completion.

say, mazemaster begins a map, and provides a link, people rate it (yeah just like we already have) then someone/s write a critique on it (say reno and wildcard) and we rate their critiques, then maze finishes the map, and we rate it, and someone reviews it and rates it, and finally we rate the review..

in this way, we have one map, but perhaps a half dozen participants, all vying for a piece of the pie, and perhaps, in a way, will motivate others to get involved..

it seems to me, that motivation is our only shortfall anymore.. if we could create ways to reward everyone involved in a maps completion it would surely help us in the long run..

in the end, each score would contribute to our overall snarkmark totals.. the quantity being decided upon how well each step did.. afterall, maze could have a great map, reno and wildcard a great critique, but the review and finished map never become a reality... at least reno and wildcard would get some reward for their participation, even if maze ends up scrapping the map in the end..

hope that made sense

Ratings, ratings, ratings... bah, I'm fed up of them, thread ratings and comment ratings everywhere. I'm not having ratings of people's ideas or comments, sorry, this is a website about maps. Anyway, the rest is an idea, but you seem to be 'timelineing' things. But you're right, it does need to be neatly tied together a bit more.

i just downloaded and tried this program, and i suggest if you are going to do critiques or reviews, that you stick with the XAT program, it may not have the perks this one has, but it is perfect for optimizing multiple images at once..

i can take 25 screenshot BMP's in HL, use XAT, convert them all to jpg, and optimize them with one click of the mouse, with the infanview program, you are stuck with only one..

course, there may be a way to setup the infanview program to remedy this, and if so, it would be perfect, but if not, .... well you decide.

bottomline, if you are not already using the XAT JPG optimizer, you prolly never will... but new members need to know this program is available, and possibly equal, or better than infanview.

sighs

in spite of every good thing we have here... participation is dropping.

veto my idea, but don't dismiss it out of hand.. perhaps someone else could think of some rewards that might incite more activity.. I'll be damned if we should have a stupid political, or religious debate once per week, just to increase post counts

lol ratings and petty 'rewards' don't help keep people around, unless they're aimed at the (oft unwanted) prepubsecent lot. Participation is dropping because of other, more obvious reasons, and I for one aren't bothered due to exams coming up and HL2 coming out soon

if i had to a vote, school or reviews, the vote would surely go school, but seriously, there are enuff members not in school to get involved.

and i take a personal joy in critiquing a map, and truth be told, its nothing to do with snarkmarks or any other imposed rewards, but i take a bit of offense to think of the current system as prepubescent

i have a lions share of snarkmarks, how i got them may be questionable, since i do not know the exact method in scoring, but i can assure you, its not prepubescent.. i am proud of my score, now that the post counts do not account for most of them, i would hope that i earned them all..

still, i bow to your wisdom, but would hope that there is some alternate method of increasing motivation..

for the record though, my thinking is to have a system in place BEFORE HL2 arrives, cause honestly, once its out, you REALLY wont want to edit the pit in any significant ways

Go into Irfanview's File, Batch Conversion menu to convert more than 1 file. Its a flexible system and has some trick methods to select files.

cool, XAT has drag and drop

tis good info to know, truly.. but with PSP 8 and XAT, i don't need irfanview, its just another clone IMO

i have nothing against it, but will continue to use, and promote XAT.. hopefully, between the two programs, we might convince these hard heads to optimize

[edit] i will leave the new program installed, to show my good faith, but doubt it will see much use.. XAT is just that good.

Doubtful, you'll always get some dweeb posting inline 1.5mb BMP's

yes, we went thru this already..

the image optimizer, screws up the pic with the name tag.

the jpg optimizer does not.

for the purposes of my promotion of this program i am only, and always referring to the JPG Optimizer.

shame they ruined the image program, it was primo except for that

i just optimized 25 screen shots to 75k or less in about 3 seconds..

again, the JPG optimizer is fine.. no tags.

My bug isn't fixed like you said, Lep. Now as well as putting the 'some images have been resized' at the start of a message being edited, it has the image set up as a hyperlink in bbcode. No big deal or anything, but still a bug

I mean when you go to edit a post that already has been resized, the text and link are there, which means that if you re-submit the edited post wihtout removing these, it will add them again.

The image is meant to be a hyperlink (to the proper sized one), unless it's b0rking it up by 'layering' the BBCode multiple times..? Text problem should be fixed though.

/me notices 2 things..

1) you seem to be one of the goons

2) your definition of dark hair is somewhat skewed.. i see the ratio closer to 50/50

there are a couple/few black and white photos, so its harder to say about those, but the black hair vs. blonde is about 99%, but there are far more brown haired people in those screens..

are you counting brown as a dark?? sure its darker than blonde, but i have always considered most browns light in color.

also, some of those kids have some crap in their hair, artificially darkening it with gloppy stuff :wtf:

please, define "dark"

When you open a screenshot from a map profile the window remains the size it opens at rather than resizing to match the screenshot. Its been like this a while, but I only just realised that the "whos online" window resizes to fit its contents fine, so perhaps it could be fixed for screenshots?

I don't know the ins and outs of "user cleaning", or if purges still go ahead - but if they do, could possbly flag yourself as "on vacation"?

Thus avoiding annoyance at unreplied PM's, and possible purging (?) due to inactivity.

But then somebody can flag themself as on vacation, then never come back... I thnik it's just easier to look at last logged on date, and if somebody hasn't been here for 2 years, delete them. I can't see what the point in this is though... it's not like 1 row in the database takes up a lot of the site's resources, is it?

Resources or not, its still cluttering the database, which means its harder to look up other people who are active. Not that its that difficult to just search for their username and find them that way or whatever though.

I think if should just be people who have an empty profile after 6 months or something - if they plan on coming back then its not any hassle for them to create a new account using the same username.

I do purge sometimes, got rid of about ~100 users the other week. And Gwil, I like your idea about being away for a while... In other news, new BBCode, using a ^ sign automatically superscripts numbers, e.g. 436554. And a spinkee new CP upgrade, note space for a bit more to come soon

5 Just checking in case you're lying. I like the updated control panel. Do you have a rough idea when you'll have the review section complete?

Whats the messages part in the maps list for? I've got a couple of my maps with the message "please update map details", and I've no idea why.
