Saw Daredevil, hoping that it would be good. I should've known Ben Affleck would f**k it up. Everything was cool...except him! Grr.

I watched "The Day After Tomorrow" last night, and to be honest it
wasn't as bad as I expected, definately one of the best disaster movies
I've seen.

Just saw The Chronicles of Riddick. Its a Damn Good Movie - don't let the bad reviews fool you, this movie was meant for entertainment not critics.
The best analogy I can come up with is that TCoR is sort of like Star Wars, Dune, and Arnold Schwarzenegger all rolled into 1 movie.

Ben Affleck really cannot act. Sure, Daredevil looked cool, but I just didn't care for him in the slightest. even the overly-long prologue sequence didn't help. Everyone else was brilliant - Colin Farrell as Bullseye was hilarious. The only problem I can think of is that it was too short, and it could have explored certain themes more deeply than it did (and perhaps could have got a proper soundtrack, not licened modern metal). But I really cannot stand Ben Affleck; all he does is look good for the camer, and when he is required to act, he just falls down dead. The only movie I liked Ben Affleck in was Changing Lanes, which quite suprised me.

IMO ben does a fine job, especially when you compare him to a loser like nick cage.. i have yet to see him live up to the character he is supposed to portray.. at least they don't expect more than ben can give in his films.. cage is some sort of hero in most of his recent works.. dweebs cannot play hero's

A new Bourne Identity movie sounds like it could be good.
I just watched Run Lola Run, it was quality.
One thing I don't really get is why anybody would ever want to watch a dubbed movie? Any film is just terrible with dubbing... unless you are just really really lazy, what's the advantage of dubbing over subtitles?

<DIV>The book of the Bourne Identity kicked the s**t outta the movie. I'm suprised they actually released it under the same name, seeing as how they managed to forget Carlos and all. I wonder what they'll do with the Bourne Supremacy (basic plot: Bourne goes back to Asia, where he got his reputation as a FAKE assassin, to capture someone who is pretending to be him). The movie just won't make sense without the backstory which should've been included in the original. Unless they change the entire plot - AGAIN.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Also what was missing from the original movie was the psychology. The book really put you into the mind of a man on the run, without an identity. I don't know how you'd convey this through film, but it just wasn't there.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I spose the movie might've been a little spoiled for me though - the Bourne series, along with some other older Ludlums, are the best books I have ever read.</DIV>

I saw 3 movies recently: First was "Paycheck" which was pretty entertaining tho I think it could have been so much more. Next we got "Shade", a movie about a group of people that hussle card players. This movie had enough plot twists to keep me entertained but the ending was mildly disapointing. Last was the third lotr movie which was wonderful of course (tho they left out some of the best parts imo).

I recently saw "Down by Law", by Jim Jarmusch; interesting meditative movie, clearly enhanced by the acting of Roberto Benigni, but IMO not as good as "Night on Earth". It seems that the latest Jarmsuch called "Coffe and cigarettes" is a masterpiece, but it didn't come out here yet ;it should take a while...

Vin Diesel should be shot. And have 'here lies Walter Nobber' written on his gravestone, to teach him that having gay names is not cool or funny.

<DIV>Mmm, Riddick isn't to be released down here in Aus for about 4 weeks. Anybody care to give me a basic idea of what to expect? Is there a maintained atmosphere? Humour? Is there a complex plot, constantly turning? Is it a CGI flick, just another shoot-em-up, or is there something in there worth seeing?</DIV>
<DIV>.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>So that you have something to compare it against, I was bored by SWAT but absolutely LOVED both Kill Bills. Pearl Harbour was about the worst movie you could possibly show me. My favourite mainstream movies include Fight Club, Matrix I, Snatch, Lock Stock & 2 Smoking Barrells, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill (as a whole), LOTR 3 and Cypher. Also, a somewhat less-known psychological action movie called "The Game": still in my top three after two years.</DIV>
<DIV>.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>Ah yes, and the immortal Starship Troopers... sheer FUN (I was halfway drunk when I last watched it...).</DIV>

I worked on the original starship troopers. LOTS of money spent on that one(over 200 million). We did rigs(camera mounts, green screens, etc.) in airplane hangars and had hundreds of extras at any given time. Starship troopers 2 is a perfect example of how far techmology has come. There were almost as many grand scale cgi shots in that as the original, yet it felt like a direct to video movie. (not that the first one was any good really). It's already on cable if you look around for it. Felt more like a Sci-fi channel movie of the week.

Well I worked on it at the back end of production. I had just gotten in the union, and started on the rigging crew, then moved over to first unit for principal photography. It was a second unit deal really(we came in after the main unit finished shooting and did what we call "pick-ups, and re-shoots). That is to say when they need some scenes re-shot for whatever reason, or added for continuity or plot line. That was the unit I worked on. Tell ya the truth, I don't remember if I got any credits on that one. I'll have to go pop the DVD in and watch the credits. I'll let you know.

Well, I have been popping around for a few years. Mostly in Television, but I have worked on a few cool features.
Cherokee kid with Sinbad,
The Brave(Directed by Johnny Depp, with Him and Marlon Brando, never released.)
Conspiracy theory
STEEL(with major motion picture star Shaquille O'niell)
Starship Troopers
Mighty Joe Young
Inspector Gadget
Ready to Rumble
The con (William H. Macy)
kicking and Screaming(still in production, with Will Ferrell and Robert Duvall)
Lemony Snickets(Jim Carrey, still in production)
Lot's of television
Cousin skeeter/Nickelodeon
The Jersey/Also Nick
Nightmare room/Nick
Combat Missions/reality TV for USA network
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Ally Mcbeal
Desperate housewives(pilot)
Charmed(Pilot)
Firefly (Pilot and series)
Thats Life (season 2)
These are not all, but there are many many more where I worked from a day to several weeks on. It's called dayplaying.
Right now I am the key grip for the construction coordinator on CSI:New York. I also just moved some sets for the CSI:Miami people as the key and next week I begin re-assembling sets for the Century City people (I posted pics of that set last year) on a new Fox series called House. In most cases, especially television, I never get screen credits. as a hammer or a best boy, the key grip is lucky if he even gets a credit.

My mates appeared at my house clutching the DVD of Starship Troopers 2
last night - dear god, I've not seen such a terrible film in a long
time. The moment in which the lead character touches the hand of one of
the infected people, and it shows her reaction to her psychic vision,
is potentially some of the worst acting I've ever watched. We watched
that scene about 4 times and found ourselves rolling around on the
couches with laughter each time. And for the sake of spoiling the
ending....
[spoilers]
.
.
.
.
.
Why the hell does the main actor stay behind at the end!? I can see
absolutely NO reason for him to do so, but he just stands on the roof
blowing the crap out of the bugs, before dying soon after. The escape
thing was RIGHT there, all he had to do was step on board!
.
.
.
.
.
[/spoilers]
Anyway, its possibly worth watching to see how a good film can be
ruined by a terrible sequel, the first Starship Troopers was a great
cheesy action movie, but this has soiled the memory!

Oh its worth watching for a laugh, if you get some mates round and some
drinks you could have a whale of a time. There are plenty of "so bad
its hilarious" moments, such as the intro in which the whole squad is
utterly surrounded, yet while the general is giving orders for some
people to retreat, the only sounds you can hear in the background are
two guns shooting, and those guns sound (and look, for that matter)
like those little sparking things used to light gas hobs. It is really
an absolutely shocking film, it reminded me of "Bad Taste"...so if you
are looking for an unintentional comedy its a prime candidate.

I must say Dodgeball is one of the best comedies I've seen since The Big Lebowski. It was funny from beginning to end and the best jokes weren't wasted in the trailer. I was laughing my ass off, which is a rarity given my apathy to most recent comedies (Starsky and Hutch, Zoolander, that Jim Carrey movie about playing god...) I saw it with a mostly high school audience and some of the really hilarious jokes were apparently over their head... at one point there were 5 college students laughing hard and the rest of the theatre didn't get it, oh well their loss.

yak, i can see where you might not see jim carrey as funny, some cannot grasp his style of humor, but to wad him in with zoolander, and starsky/hutch is almost sacrilege
the dumbs**t stiller who stared in those 2 flicks will never be as funny as carrey.
