I'm not loving your new screenshot style - you'd be better of with tradtional full screen ones as it gives a better indication of how the map looks. Not much to comment on from this picture, but the premise is interesting, and definately original :)

My entry for the contest.

These shots have not been lit properly. Simply putting point lights in each rooms to illuminate them. Their real lighting is pending.

I'm gonna guess that the 3rd one is Alce in Wonderland... purely 'cause 'tis weird. That's some brilliant architecture, lighting's pretty good too, nice work.

I agree a beanstalk is a good idea! As for the rest call me crazy but I liked the point-based lighting better... or at least the rgb values from it. With the light fixtures in place it seems a bit too shadowy. As was mentioned before the architecture is turning out really cool so why not show it off?

Speaking of fairytail, you should add this to your map, you could call it the "Liberace" area

The map will include an enchanted house (only thing to be shown until release), alice and wonderland, hobbitville (LotR), Hansel and Grettel and Ali baba and the 40thieves.

Oooh this is looking cool, interesting idea and its been carried out
well by the looks of things. I particularly like the hobbit house, its
the only thing I recognised instantly, but then I'm s**t on the topic
of fairytales.

well I've been working on the map when I'm not crashing after work. And this is what I've done so far on one of the sections I Have not shown you guys yet. I need some good custom textures to go with it so I whipped some stuff up. Its a pain of a task but I gotta do it  I'll show the progression also so you guys can critique everything

User posted image

the standard base gingerbread texture with frosting on top

User posted image

I'm going to just save what it looked like before having the candy aorund it... even my gf slapped me for making such a s**tty window for a gingerbread house lol! what are girlfriends for?

User posted image

well candy just wasn't enough so I put some frosting on it so that you can tell the candy sticks ONTO the texture  SO this what I came up with. I'll either have models meshes that go over some ofthe stuff to extrude it, or I"ll just have a texture overlay for some glowy effects. I havn't decided yet but I'm leaning towards simply the texture overlay since it'll look better in the long run.

And Orpheous, I'm seriously considering a bean stalk to replace the floating platforms for a jumping reach gun (ie: jump for the rocket launcher with gun fire everywhere loL!)

The map is comign along nicely. THe basement hasn't been worked on but all I have to do is build some hills and hedges and complete the upside down waterfall (yes water goes up, not down, havn't you heard?) From there its just completing hansel and grettel and the frosting river that'll take you down to the basement. All the while my little helper OL from mapcore is helping make more light models to add some more color inside the house. I'm going to contrast the yellowish lighting with some cool blue. It ought to look really nice! I'm also clipping a lot of stuff so that gameplay isn't affected by all the angles. I've had people actually tell me that they've never seen so many angles on the map that they lose whats aligned 90 degrees ot the grid. Sounds swell! lol

cheers

Those textures look great, but I must say that I've never seen a gingerbread house with swedish fish on it, or candy corn for that matter... you need some more peppermint swirls and gumdrops

Ferret, make the shadows clearer on the third texture, it's making the windows look odd in an otherwise photorealistic image. Very nice.

Your woman slapped you because you made a bad window?

you could make parts of the map duplicated somewhere else on the grid with certain rooms upside down and have certain areas teleport to them.

Like if you could jump in the dresser drawer, as JFry said, and teleport you to an identical room, just upside down.

That'd be awesome.

If you hop into the dresser you run into the room with the cloud wallpaper. Campaign Junkie recently was given the chance to run around so maybe he can post his thoughts. I just finished up the Hansel and Grettel section, so hopefuly I'll skybox it up and then attach the alice&wonderland.rmf and have a complete map.

The connectivity utterly, utterly pwns me. Seems kind of cramped (well, the house does), and the shotgun will probably be the most dominant thing in the entire map. Outdoor lighting is still kind of iffy, but once Ferret sorts out all that stuff, I can easily see this map winning.

I cant comment on the skies.. way to hard to decide.. thats up to yoU!... anyways in the new pics... the one showing the house and new terrain.. the water fall thing to ur left looks way to bright.. you might want to get a new texture.. or do something about it maybe change the additive on it? Other than that looks good!

I'd say the day sky, just because it looks incredibly unrealistic, the night sky looks rather ... normal (as close to normal most skymaps come to).

It'd be cool if there was an easy way (or anyway) to have it alternate between them with a counter of somesort ...
