I'm going to make a server dedicated to Snarkpit Maps. A little continuation of Orpheous's "favorite map" idea. Shoot me a map request and we'll make a custom map server. Currently its running fairytale b1 but if you guys want something else, just post it.

For the moment, why don't you run only some of the best snarkpit HL maps?
Torrent and some of the others form the old "contrasts" comp spring to mind.

One of Adam's concept art maps, either dm_rampart or dm_osiris, would be nice. Perhaps Jeff's castle map too, would be good to see how it plays as I think it should be good fun.

I think Apothesis requires a special GMDM2 mod that has SoHL enabled. Which means we probably can't play it?...

I stole a new computer for the server to be on. It'll be upgraded to a pentium 3 with hopefuly 512+ of ram. This'll give the server a boost in power. Plus it'll be soley dedicated to running snarkpit maps and nothing else will utilize the computer's power. So wait for that, maybe a week. I'll get the maps uploaded. It would help me if you put down the map d/l link with the map name so I dont have to go searching and wasting my time when I can be finishing my snarkpit comp entry

Yeah, we could all play Thursday nights or something. We could get a regular HLDM clan going
I guess I should get to work on a real map since it'd have a place to be played. Also, you left off Broken Palace!

Would this server be available for some competition map playtesting, by any chance? Or anyone else have a decent, fast server we can use?

Woot, we (CJ, Reno, Ferret, Gwil, Ding) had a little playtest on
Persia, Fairytales, and Flatshaded. Much fun was had. Except Persia,
because it sucks. But the other two had a lot of hectic fragging and
stuff.

If you have broadband then you can get steam fully downloaded and setup in a few hours. Just download the installer, start it running, bugger off and do something else. Come back half an hour later and start it downloading the games you want, then bugger off and come back again later. Easy  You know you want to get in on the official playtest whenever that happens...

Just saw the list of competition maps... very nice stuff! I wish I could have participated in this one, but I'm just too busy being unemployed right now. I would really love to play these with the snarkpitters.
what, when, where is the server?

Ferret has a server up at this IP...
24.21.243.144:27015
It runs, I believe, dm_fairytale as standard but also has flatshaded and persian letters on it at least. Monqui was also trying to get a server setup to run the contest maps, but the details of that haven't been released as of yet...

Yeah, my SSH thingymawatchie is being a total whore and not wanting to let me upload some file from CJ's map...
But once I get that worked out it should be ready to go.

Err... One has to wonder why my map is causing all these problems...
The ZIP file has it's own \persia\ directory for some reason. You'll have to open that and extract the 5-6 folders to \valve\.

It's the mbken_bowls_jugs.txt file in the models folder- it's 0b, and apparently my SSH prog goes into an infinite loop when it hits that and never finishes that one file. And the program is a bit of a piece, since it won't let me just cancel one file, it cancels the entire queue. I think I have it all worked out, though, and I'll upload all of the other files once I get off of work.

The server will be an Eastcoast server at the end of august or early september as well as change to a faster connection.
