Yeh, congrats to the CJ (I voted for you, your map was visually stunning !). Good news to see Flatshaded and Fairytale too ...

Any chance we could take a look at the other voting results too ? I want to know what happened to Thanto and Melee3D.

Sorrow came 4th, followed by Thanto and the others... Melee town had a few votes, and most maps had at least 1 person vote for them.

Congrats to the top three - I knew I shouldn't I shouldn't have voted for those darn Parralaxion and Persian Letters maps

Be interesting to read Leps comments about the maps too

hesitates suggesting but cautiously advances idea

i think....

most of us here can handle the truth of the matter, would it be possible to post the stats, in % total of votes for the entire line up?

sounds confusing as i read it back,,

1000 total people voted, blah-blah% voted for CJ,blah-blah% voted for A_S..

i mean seriously, they don't hide the times between winner and loser in the olympics and other competitions, in spite of the 0.00002 differences between winning and losing.

viewpoints guys?

either way, i still bask in the glow of such magnificent artistry, you guys have come so far since your arrival here.. each one of you deserve an applause.. not just the top 3 placements, you all are winners in my book.

Many congrats to those placed, especially Persian Letters.

As for publishing results, I'm not too bothered either way, but it might be a bit harsh in some respects...

competitors. My votes got their desired places

Huge congratulations
to Campaignjunkie, it is indeed a superb map for atmosphere and just
the sheer scale.. beautiful work

Persian Letters, eh? It was unfininshed, and it STILL won. I wouldn't really agree it was the best, but congrats all the same...

This contest had so many good maps it was unreal to be honest - ZGZ is
unique and should be fun, Reclamation has awesome gameplay potential,
Pulse was just jaw-droppingly unique, Thanto is the best looking first
release ever, and those were just the tip of the iceberg! To me,
Persian Letters is a worthy winner and (if I remember correctly) my
first choice, but its by no means an OBVIOUS choice.

I forgot, BIG THANKS to all who voted for my map and all other competitors who made this one of the best competitions the Snark Pit has had.

Personaly I had Pulse or Reclamation down for a place, as they are freakin' awesome maps, same with ZGZ.

The whole issue of incomplete maps will be better addressed when Lep releases the official reviews done by himself, I'd imagine. This first round of public voting was more of a popularity contest, with people voting for the ones that were not only great as a finished product, but would be awesome with a bit more tweaking, or had the greatest potential. At least thats what I interpreted as.

No offence to the winner's and no sour grapes, but by your own admissions your entries were still in various stages of construction or finishing, not completed articles. I think the official reviews will reflect that fact, giving other maps that may have missed out on a place in the public voting a greater chance.

But to all competitors, top notch work and congratulations all round.

to be honest, i didn't think it right to vote for an unfinished map.

fair enough, i used an older map and tried to tart it up/finish it off/tweak the layout, so i had a better chance of finishing by the deadline, but sows ears and silk purses come to mind there.

ZGZ got my vote. i'd love to see a ctf version of that one for tfc.

In my eyes, maps are NEVER actually complete. There is always going to
be something you can improve, change, or polish for another release.
But, to put a stop to the infinite cycle of reworking, you just have to
throw in the towel and move on to another project. I think time
constaints affected pretty much all of the entries, seeing as most
mappers are incredibly lazy slobs (most especially myself). Where some
people will consider a map "complete", I won't, and vice versa.

Congrats to Adam along with everyone else who managed to enter! Looking
forward to the next competition, probably for HL2. Pulse is a worthy
winner; therefore, I'll delay my brutal revenge for a few days, at the
least...

Yeah, well done everyone! It was quite a tough decision really- there's nothing in the rules which said maps have to be finished- but that's the way I felt about things. Anyway, surely the respect of your peers (voters) is more important than what I think at the end of the day

don't get me wrong. i've no less respect for CJ's work, just because a map wasn't finished*. if it was only half of it's current size but finished, it would probably have got my vote too.

Wow  That came as a bit of a surprise! I was pretty sure Parralaxion (spelt wrong?) had it in the bag.

I'd like to thank CJ, ReNo and Gwil in particular for feedback and helping me test things out (oh, and Orph too though that was with Sorrow  ). Congrats to all that entered really  These competitions are a great source of quality maps - and a motivation to mapping for myself - as CJ said earlier about being a lazy mapper....that's me down to a tee!

So when can I expect to receive my 'Hong Kong related tat'? Heh, i'm also feeling grateful that CJ is all the way over in the US as I fear what kind of revenge he has planned!

Look at the competition page mate - CJ won the voted contest, but Adam
won the judged contest  Many congratulations to Adam, Pulse fits the
contest perfectly and is very deserving of the prize. Its great that
that could be said of so many of the entries this year!

congrats for the participants and ofcourse for the winners

small remark

on the results page, the individual % of votes add up to a total of 143%...something went wrong it seems. also deducting by the fact that maps like ZGZ, who seem to have had multiple votes, arent listed with ..% of votes. Unless if percentages under 5% arent listed.. and it adds up to a total of 200% or something? But then i still wonder why 14% for flatshaded and 17% for parralaxion are seen as an execo ?

Hey hey, time constraints! I had a few minutes to start compiling,
didn't exactly have the luxury of making clip brushes for everything. I
barely finished as is, with the half-ass clipnodes solution anyway.

Hrm, good point about the percentages not adding up. Not to worry, I've just been calculating them wrong, it doesn't affect the order in which they came...

Well, not quite, as it had to take into account what people voted 2nd (which isn't listed there). I do do maths at University, so I'm not thick  (despite the earlier mistake  )
