I'm getting tired of the same ol same ol stuff..

i am tired of my same old 4.1/5 score, someone needs to like me more, or like me less, cause i think my number is stuck.. i realize dividing it between 66 people makes it look stuck, but still.. i have had to either impress someone a lot, or royally pissed them off so get your asses to rating again people..

i look at some of our best people, and see they have been rated by 10 or 15 people.. whoopee big ones guys.. :biggrin:

seriously though, we have some pretty great people, take a moment and show them how much they have influenced your time around here..

if you don't get to rating, i will embarrass everyone i scored a 5 on , by posting their names, till they get off their duffs and rate someone else :razz:

I think I've most of the regulars who I'm familiar with rated. I'm not
really fond of having a rating system for people. It's a somewhat
impersonal assigning someone a numeric value.

I am tired of this endless new-topic-spamming, personally. Not that I'm picking on you because it's you, but simply because this is yet another topic that I'd delete if it was by a newer member...

I'm not sure what Orph is asking for. You want... More people to rate
others? I don't think I follow. Personally, I think the rating is just
a small little fun gimmick; it certainly doesn't deserve a forum topic
or as much thought as you're giving it.

sadly, most people use the system, or any system this way and it retracts from its value.. since no system is perfect, the one we have will do just fine, if you can get your mind around it.. i made my list, it has 45 people on it whom made enough of an impression on me to warrant a 5/5 score, i also noticed a s**tload of 4's.. sadly there are a few people i value, who have no maps, so are disqualified.

still of the 45 people i care to score as 5/5 all of them are for different reasons.. its not like we are all striving to be exactly the same person.. most have a margin of my respect, but that i promise you is not a deciding factor, in fact my list may surprise a few.. but i do not hand them out like candy, so to me its very personal.. and since numerical systems are universal, i cannot imagine any other system working.

anyways, each person interprets their own value system, not only for the ratings, but the rating system itself.. if you don't value the system, you prolly won't value any system. as i said, its how you get your mind around it.. no one but you can make you see it in any other light than the one you create.

anywho's.. the system exists, using it is not mandatory, i am only reminding people who do find it valuable, that it may be time to give your scores a look-see.. some of you may notice, i raised quite a few 3's to 4's :smile:

anyways, i care in some way, for each and every 5/5.

don't take this personal, because it is truly not pointed toward anyone specific.. it is my impression, that almost without exception, each time i begin a thread to boost moral, someone throws a wet blanket on it.. be it accidental or not, it invariably occurs.

without exception, i have been at the forefront of almost every thing here that boosts the members, either in reputations, ratings, or critiques to boost skill and confidence, so it stands to reason, that i am going to begin threads that the topic designates these ideals. it is the most important reason i come here, in fact its about the only reason i remain.. this sites hostility level, although considered low, is much higher than it was a couple years ago.. maybe we are tired of the familiarity, maybe its something more.

bottomline, its very important to me to help each member in any way i can, if its a member who's skill far exceeds mine, that makes it harder, but i still try.. and threads like this... are part of that process.

it hurts deeply that some think its not worth a thread for, but.. not to me.

anyways.. thats how i feel..

The only thing I have to say about the ratings is ... someone keeps changing their opinion of me ... my rating jumps like 2 points then falls 1 then up 1 down 3 ... make up your damn mind person!

It's really odd that someone would take this amount of time to rate me on a forum ...

What is the rating system ment for? Rating mapping skills of rating the person, as in how he/(she) is?

screw it, i have never said anything here i truly regret, i regret sometimes that i failed to convey my thinking in a non-offensive way, but i am not ashamed of anything i write..

so here is my list, i am not ashamed of this list, in fact i am quite proud of it.. some will look at it and wonder why him? or, why not him? but you know what, thats my business.. some are gonna wonder at my motives.. well its a bit late to curry favor from anyone here, cause honestly, everyone has made up their minds already as to my pathetic worth.. this list is to illustrate, that first and foremost i value people here, i value them for a bunch of different reasons, but its value none the less. do my values bother some?, sure i suppose, will my values harm anyone? i hope not.. but the fact remains, i am not ashamed of my feelings.. my only concern, is a few people may think they deserve 5/5 scores.. well you prolly are, just not on mine.. its not intended to hurt your feelings.. and i would hope each of you look upon this topic with a bit more understanding.. to help, and to serve, thats all i ever really want to do..

do you not think it is more to do with, I hate to say it - intense "newbieism" and the fact people keep resurrecting old topics?

I call upon ALL snarkpit members to return us to the glory days -
space, science, history (ok, i have vested interests :razz: ), society, art,
culture and politics? I can remember dozens of flame wars where the
disagreements were not between people, moreso they were between
differences in opinion - opinions, which developed and matured, one way
or another, I might add :smile:

I thought we wanted to move away from incessant flame wars and interforum bitterness?

we have - if, I pardon myself sayng it - me and Orph talk all the time, as I know he and the Lepm0ng do more often than not :smile:

My point is mainly to do with the standard/subject of topics posted,
Yak - and I believe you for one will agree the "intellectual" standard
of discussion has dropped dramatically on these boards :smile: our fights
between regulars and regulars, and regulars and moderators has always
been part and parcel of the "Snarkpit experience"

I'm saying lets have more discussion - less one word/2 sentence replies
to a topic, and more indepth discussion on issues related to society,

As for the topic at hand - I've rated a lot of people but have been
quite lax in my duties lately. I guess I have rated most of the
regulars, while I don't know enough of the newcomers to rate them
fairly. I'll get back onto rating people I haven't when I come across

Actually I will be posting two maps soon but I have been so busy with school work for the last several weeks I have gotten to compile either one of them.

I know my opinion isnt valued very high here since im kinda new to snarkpit (if you call one year old), but in response to leps post about the poinltess posts: how about you limit the number of posts a person can make (like # per week) based of your score and your member number. Like orph gets to make 7 new posts a week, uberlords get to make as many as they want, and GB gets to make 1 per week.

That would be a complex system, omega, and then people couldn't really help the people in the editing forums except for the ones who could post all they wanted, so their superiority would just perpetuate. Considering how low you'd be on this scale, I'm surprised you'd even fathom such an idea. That's not true Hugh. You add in one more table cell into the data base under user for number of threads made per week under general banter (other forums wouldn't make sense to have a limit), then you just keep that number there for a week or so before it is reset to 0 (this can be set to server time; gets reset every 168 hours) . Then when someone posts a thread it checks that value to see if it is <= to some funcion like ... floor(snarkmark/5) ... easy.

Not that I recommend making that functionality ...

Well I suppose so long as someone understands how to implement it. Generally speaking when I say something's "complex," that means I don't want to think about it because I don't know anything about it. :razz:

you know what this sounds like to me?? pay toilets in a public bathroom. limitations, can never be fairly implemented.. i'll be damned if i would stay with so nazi an action. i am betting that even those who never post a new topic wouldn't stand for it either.

seriously. Since I haven't been active on the mapping front, or the
with the helping, or voicing opinions-ok, since I haven't been active
at all im quite happy if I never get rated. It adds an air of mystery
to my character, don't you think? :razz:

yeah, well... its fairly easy to say when you can't be rated.. put a map in your profile.. you might view it in another light..

a map makes you eligible to be rated.. after that its all up to you..

i look at the system differently i suppose, cause i supported it so strongly all this time. if its a joke to you, please don't use it, save it for those of use who care.
