I've never really listened to much of Jimmy Eat World, but I do really
like "Just Tonight" from the new album after hearing it on Burnout 3.
After a quick listen to some of the other songs, it seems they are
certainly a band I could get into.

Again, i'm stuck waiting for my copy to be delivered :sad: Hopefully it'll arrive today though...

Let me know how that Jimmy Eat World CD is... I've been a decent fan of theirs since I bought Static Prevails on a whim (Clarity is probably my favorite, but Static Prevails is still good), and would love to see whether or not they can keep up with themselves. Their self-titled one was a little more focused than the other two, which I think is a bit of a bad thing. I love it when one of their songs just shifts gears and goes in an entirely new direction. That never seems to happen in the self titled one. The self titled one was far too refined to really mesh well with Static Prevails and Clarity.

Oh well, I'm sure I'll end up buying it anyways.

Self-titled album? Am I missing something? And you didn't mention 'Bleed American' either, which is top-class :smile:

Been listening to the new 'Sparta' album a lot recently and the most recent John Frusciante album (in his series of 1 album a month). This one is very good, if a little short (15 mins).

As a huge fan of Bleed American, I have to say the new Jimmy Eat World
album is poor in comparison. It seems to lack all the energy and
emotion that Bleed American captured so well.

No changes of direction in this new album- I know what you mean, it's quite fun when they did that, but too much of it would get annoying. Now, the new Jimmy album- after a day of listening, it seems most of the first 8 songs are utterly awesome ('Kill' perhaps being my favourite), and already 4 of my 5 favourite songs of the year are in there. But 9 - 13 (you get quite a lot!) seem to peter out and get a bit boring compared to these. I think if some of these last few were acoustic (instead of more nice jangly electric guitar) it would be more coherent...

Oh, and ignore anyone who says it's not as poppy as the last album too. It's certainly different, and yes does lack the same energy, but ah well, it's different ingredients.

It seems most of you like rock & metal, but is anyone here into good dance/trance music ?

The only trance song that I can remember liking is Darude - Sandstorm. I hate dance music because people want to... dance to it. Generally speaking, I'd prefer dancing to Rammstein than to dance music because at least with Rammstein I'd be justified in jumping around like an idiot.

American Idiot is probably one of the best rock albums I've heard all
year. There's some brilliant anthemic music on here, and not just the
stuff Good Charlotte like to think they get away with. Whether you like
punk or not, it's a definite recommendation. There's something for
everyone to like.

Ergh. Green Day being punk strikes me as odd considering they get radio playtime. Same goes for Good Charlotte and Blink 182. Way to fight the system.

Punk isn't about fighting the radio. To censor themselves in such a way would make their messages redundant.

Yeah, well The Clash and The Sex Pistols also got loads of playtime. Doesn't make them any less of a punk band.

By the way, "Hail to the Thief" was a back step for Radiohead. As much as I like Radiohead, Cold Play is better (yes they are comparable). A friend of mine once described them as a talented Radiohead :smile:

Ergh. I like Radiohead much more than Coldplay and Muse. Muse is also comparable. I suppose Chris Martin's the only one married to 'ol Paltrow, though, so kudos for that.

I didn't say I liked Cold Play more, I said they're a better band.

Generally speaking when a person says something is better, that means they like them more. Anyway, this is majorly spammarific and I need a shower so we'll call it a draw er something.

I don't think anyone did. I think the case was about album titles being physically printed somewhere on the album.

i can't think of any more myself. as for Hail To The Thief being a step
back, bleh. it depends if you want radiohead to move away from Kid A
and back toward OK Computer/The Bends/Pablo Honey, then you wont like
Hail To The Thief. I personally think it's great, 2+2=5, Backdrifts, A
Wolf At The Door and Go To Sleep all being excellent stand out tracks.

analysing radiohead LP's by comparing them with previous works is
always a bad idea, they change with each and every recording. Kid A/Ok
Computer are still the best though!

I never said Hail to the Thief was a bad album. I said it was a step back from the previous two albums which were way better.

Eponymous does not mean that there is no name. Eponymous means that the name of something is derived from the person who discovered/created/represents it. Strictly speaking, most "eponymous" records really aren't eponymous as they have no title at all. And then there's REM's Eponymous to throw into the mix.

I find it kind of odd that bands typically go untitled once and only once. I guess its part of branding, creating a recognizable product. I would think if you were inclined to go titleless once, though, you'd be so inclined again. The only two recent major label bands I can think of that have multiple untitleds are Weezer and Days of the New. But if you look back, you'll see Led Zeppelin and Chicago had a string of roman numeral titled albums.

Don't forget Rancid, who had two self-titled records :razz:

Dover - Last At Night is an excellent CD, but I can't surmise a lot of people liking it unless they like her vocals since though I think the music's good, I think the vocals kick ass and really carry them to their perceived greatness in my mind. DJ and Cherry Lee are the killer tracks off that one.

Just been listening to the Mooney Suzuki album "Alive and Amplified" that I recommended to my dad, and while its not totally to my taste, there are a few really good songs on it. If you like some slightly older rock like Primal Scream then they will probably impress you.

Just recently picked up Queens of The Stone Age - Queens of The Stone
Age, for another listen. Definately worth a look, especially since
Rated R/Songs for The Deaf shadowed it of late.

If you like catchy riffs, stoner wailing and sludgy beats - it'll be
right up your street. Particularly if you like Kyuss as well :razz:

"Avon" is a good track to try :smile:

On the flipside to that, if you like your spacey/screwed up electronica
beats, give Ceephax a look. He's the brother to Squarepusher, and makes
some completely crazy yet catchy tunes. Saw him this year at
Glastonbury when he was pummelling bass through the pa at ridiculous
volumes, made your whole body vibrate :smile:

Back for another edit - heavy rock, blending keyboards and aphex twin
style electronic static-esque noise - The Cooper Temple Clause.

Seen these guys live 3 times and haven't been disappointed yet :smile: Quite

full on gig rocking crowd pleasers :smile: Tracks worth checking out..

Picked up Emotive by A Perfect Circle, and is probably the best cover
album I've listened to. Very dark and haunting all around. Their
rendition of "What's Going On?" deserves some sort of award.

Still waiting for my copy (didn't think it was out for a few more weeks), but I listened to their cover of 'Imagine' and that was extremely good.
