Making Friends

Lesson 1: Polite Conversation

Hello, I am Vash and I will be your guide to the wonderful world
outside your door! I know you are shocked right now, "There is land and
a functioning society away from the confines of my own abode?" - the
answer is an astounding yes! Outside of your comfortable home live odd
creatures we call "Humans". Why, you yourself are one of those
primitive "Humans"! And one of the things these humans do is interact
with each other! Usually they will start a conversation with another
one
of their species in a hope to gain their friendship, and maybe even
access to their pants! Let us discuss a few POLITE ways to start a
conversation by examplifying the right and wrong ways to speak!

Right: Hello, that is a nice dress you have on!

WRONG: Hey baby, take that dress off and shake 'em!

This is typically a mistake made by the male humans, as they have a
tendency to think with their pants! Let us take another look at POLITE
conversation!

Right: Nice weather, isn't it?

WRONG: Nice weather, we should reproduce.

These are just a few examples of polite conversation! Tune in next time
when I teach you how to spot a human! Until next time, this is Vash -
your teacher to the outside world!

Since i consider it a joke to move to anyplace in kansas, i suppose this is a good place to type one i heard on the CB radio this run.. :heee:

A man walks up to the druggist and asks "Which isle has the tampons?"
Druggist: "isle #5 sir"
Man: "Thanx" and disappears down isle #5

five minutes later, man places bag of cotton balls and spool of thread on counter

Druggist: "Sir, you couldn't find the tampons?"
Man: "sure did but, yesterday I sent the wife to the store for a pack of cigarettes, she came home with a bag of tobacco and some rolling papers.. I figure if i have to roll my own, so can she."

I think moving to a new place is a good experience. I've done it twice,
to new places, without knowing a single soul. The first time I weren't
very lucky, couldn't make a single friend and that was quite boring.
The second time I had better luck.

So, I guess all you can do is be yourself and try to be open to others
and try to make friends. Talk to others and don't just stand quite in a
corner (that's basically what I did). Try to stay in thouch with your
old mate via the internet or telephone or something so that you don't
just "lose him". He can still help you with mapping etc  . Over time
you'll probably see what the others like, perhaps there's someone
sharing your interest. Anyways, I think it's a good experience to move
to a new place and I'm sure you'll benefit from this in the future.

I wish you the best of luck

Dude, (no pun intended) That sucks. Bellingham is paradise on earth as far as cities go. You're moving form an area with the highest concentration of glacial ice in the US, to Podunk corn-vill! Sorry, I don't mean to be depressing.

As far as your question, I don't have any real advice. Just be friendly and I'm sure things will workout.

I don't really care about what the place looks like becouse I'm on the computer almost all the time so I dosent really matter. I personally hate all the wetness of washington, it's always raining, it's almost always gray and cloudy so I dont care.

P.S You guys think that "corn" is all that is in Kansas, that stuff is only in the country. In the city it's fine, just like any other city. Friends are all that bother me.

All that I know about Kansas;

1. It has corn.

2. It's where Dorothy came from in The Wizard of Oz.

3. It has corn.

Make the most you can of the move, learn how to make toys/clothes/shoes from corn, learn lots of popcorn recipies, read Stephen King books etc, and I'm sure everything will be fine.

Good luck, and have some corn

i just got in from phoenix last night/yesterday..

i grew up in phoenix, its nothing like when i was a kid now.. its big, its nasty and its big and nasty.

the point is, every place has its perks and pitfalls. if you are going to tempe because you have some idea its paradise, your in for a rude shock. i lived in florida for 4 years, it beats tempe hands down, BUT at least in arizona you can plan things without thinking of rain

kansas city is clean, i have never seen smog of any sort, and you better be ready for the cold and windy conditions of winter. i dunno how it is in washington state, but its bitter in kansas.

i have seen, or lived in 45 of these 50 states and of them all i would pick utah, it has the best views.. course i would have to live there without the wife, she hates it.. no grass she says

anyways, home is where you hang your hat.. you can live there without liking it, as opposed to where your heart is and liking it deeply

Sorry, no. The only reason why it may rain so much where you live is because of coastal storms. In Washington and most of Oregon, it almost constantly rains during non-summer seasons. It's not caused by storms, it's just how the weather is. Since it usually doesn't stay cold enough to snow (except in middle - North Washington and East Oregon) and it doesn't really get all that warm outside of summer, in which is rains a lot anyway.

However, with the amount of Rain that these states get you'd imagine the drivers here would know how to drive in the rain ... but they don't. Here's a good idea. Slam on your breaks when you can't see out your windshield with the wipers all the way on. I hate those people. They cause accidents (simliar to the one I was in, which was caused by someone infront of me following far too close)

crono, you amaze me, you are so smart at times, and other times ___________flatline_____

how can you live in oregon and not know why it rains so much there? its geographical, not
it's just how the weather is.

it rains there because it has to, the mountains are to high to the east and oceanic moisture backs up due to the greatness of the height.. the jet stream forces more in than the air can hold and it rains.

in the winter months the jet stream follows a different path than summer months.. the same effects happen over arkansas, the jet stream brings all that water and dumps it on us from canada and such in winter, and the gulf in summer.

anywho's it doesn't rain just "because"

my advice, invest in some rain-x, its the best invention since forever

As in, it isn't a tropical storm. Meaning, that's how the f**king weather is

It doesn't change. Geographical precipitation and storms created off another's coast are two different things. A storm across the coast isn't nearly as constant or consistent as precipitation. <- my point

yeah well, if you could lower the hills to the east a bit, you would be crying for rain i promise.. its geographical i promise

still giggling

you made my day.

BTW, i may not know as much about weather as you do about PC's, but i studied meteorology for a year in school, i know exactly why it rains in any location in the USA at least

I never said you didn't ...

I don't understand how you translated my valid point into, "You're stupid about weather by saying it rains 'because' (which I didn't say)"

However, you mistook my explination. There is a major difference in the weather patterns.
I'm well aware of how dry it would be with out the percipitation build up. (Just look at Nevade and Arizona, right on the other side of the Rockies.)

its ok crono, i don't know why i do things either sometimes

the fact that you have all the rain, doesn't effect arizona, nor nevada much, from where you live, you more effect montana and idaho, but thats neither here nor there as they say.

its early, i am feeling better than last night, and you are here to poke fun at.. besides its rare that i can participate in a topic with you and know enough to continue to participate for more than one reply.. allow me my moments please :heee:

You're compelled for some reason.

I was talking about the Rocky Mountains blocking off Arizona/Nevada ... not Oregon (even though a small chunk of the rockies in here).

We understand why it rains, the point is that it rains ALL THE TIME. It's not like we have intermittent storms that dump loads of rain in one go, it's more a constant drizzle that doesn't even hardly qualify as rain! I believe that Astoria Oregon has the highest yearly rainfall in North America (something like that). The Pacific Northwest has the only temperate rain-forests in the world. We can go three moths or more without ever seeing the sun!

Wow I thought Florida was bad. Atleast we see the sun. I feel sorry for you now. I would hate to live in a place where it rains everyday. I'd rather see the blazing sun everyday.

intermittent storms that dump loads of rain in one go, it's more a constant drizzle that doesn't even hardly qualify as rain! It's not bad because it goes with the seasons. Usually those several month periods are durring late fall and Winter.

At least someone understands what I was saying

i understood perfectly, what you failed to understand was, my definition not only took your words into account, but took them to the next step, which was why it happens the way it happens.

you are still stuck with your words as if they were enough to explain everything. they were not.

funny how you can give a 6 page recitation on browsers and motherboards yet simplify rain to one paragraph
bottomline, i at least know why it rains in oregon, and i feel deeply for you.. still you chose to live there so you cannot bitch to much. its a choice, not something forced upon you

I'm not bitching. I've never written 6 pages on anything computer related. I didn't simplify why it rains here because I never intended to explain the very concept of the most common type of rain. I never even attempted to create a "definition".

So, why are you dragging this out? I'm not arguing with why it rains here vs in florida. I spoke of the amount and the way it rains in florida is different then here ... END OF CONVERSATION. There's no point going, "But I took what you said and molded it with something not really related to what you were specifically talking about".

By the way, I was born here and there hasn't been a very ubundant about of jobs in the last four years, so technically I am being forced to live here. Although, I like Oregon and it's weather, I mean, I grew up here. Rain doesn't phase me.

Wow.

I lived in Overland Park (a suburb of KC about 20 minutes out) for
about 8 years of my life, and I have to say it was a pretty cool
place. It's not all flat and boring and wheat. It's what
you make of it.

Anyway, I am enjoying Fayetteville Arkansas very much and it's a great
college town, but I still get homesick every time I go back.

Rain is s**t, however, SNOW is even worse. A few days ago it started to
snow here. Now it's like -10*C and I'm freezing my a** off. Snow
everywhere, it's like being in hell. And dark. Perhaps 7h of light a
day still decreasing. God, I wish I lived somewhere else.
