I am once again stuck in Denver, this time due to a major snow storm. They shut the interstate down.
Anywho's, I figure that I am wasting an opertunity of a lifetime. In my travels I see some extremely interesting mapping examples. It finally dawned upon me that I should be taking pics of these things and posting them for people to draw inspiration on.
Sadly, since I am not at home yet, it will have to wait, but it is not stopping anyone else from borrowing this thread for the same purpose.
Throughout snarkpits history, people have posted some interesting things, but sadly they are all lost in the depths of the forums, prolly even lost to preceeding versions as well.
I will upload the screens as soon as I get home, but feel free to borrow this thread for the same purpose.
please try to keep it as on topic as possible.
thanx, Orph

On my camera presently, I have an abandoned mine, or whatever the buildings are called for such.
and a demolished building.
both are most definately mapping material, sadly, i had to take the pics from the roadside. I did use telephoto, and semi-high resolution (2.3MP) so you guys will have a hefty download, but you can also zoom in once you get the images on your PC's
with 2.3mp, you should not get much blurring.

Photography has the potential to be art, but isn't necessarily artistic
by default (eg. just taking a picture of a building isn't "art" in most
people's eyes). I dunno who moved the thread, but in my opinion it has
the potential to turn into an artistic thread, or a general thread,
depending on the style of photographs people post. I guess the general
idea is for it to be a reference library of sorts. Either way, it is
less likely to be drowned out by other posts if its in the art forum,
so I don't think its really a negative thing for it to have been moved
here.

I have been meaning to ask, but keep forgetting.
As most of you have seen, some of the vista's in my pictures are truly magnificent. Would anyone be interested in some pictures to be made into new sky boxes?
If so, please define the criteria in doing such IE preferred resolutions (1.2,3.2 5.0..etc..etc), types of terrain, times of day, times of year, angles of shot taken..

ummm.... 3 should be more than enough, I think the sky box pics are
only 1024x1024. So I would need a source image around 2000x2000
pixles (so I can shrink it down and cover up any mistakes)

I say sell it to the suckers, even though it bears vague resemblance to medieval white-man's portrayal of Jesus

I agree. If people think a grease stain on a cheese sandwich can look
like the Virgin Mary, then your shell is probably a freakin'
masterpiece.

Didn't that place get blown to smithereens in one of the recent civil wars?
I thought it did, although I have a suspicion it was rebuilt too...

This should be in the General Banter forum, not art, soz Orph
Non of the pictures here are artistic- they are merely photos to show the place rather than to represent in some way some art form.

/Me just noticed.. Image Shack seems to be losing many of my pictures.. Anyone know why, or if there is a time limit or some such?

I still have 16 pages of images going back to last December. I'm
not sure if there is a time limit. What's your oldest picture
hosted?

glad you ressurected this one orph....and that sir, is a beautiful sunrise... welcome to my world. i think this visual needs to be at the end of a perspective shot, valley hils on both sides, and planted firmly in my skybox.. :heee: it just so happens my current project (which i have sworn to finish and release if it kills me...or someone) is a pre-dawn raid setting in dod:s... (what a coinky-dink) :heee:
did i mention .... :heee:

Those photo's Master Gwil turned out drastically different than they looked to the naked eye. For starters, they are a bit blurry. I feel that this was due to the fact that it was MUCH darker than the images imply. Secondly, the effect looked surprisingly similar to a searchlight or light saber when I viewed it before clicking. Thirdly, the shot looks centered but I extended the image upward past the top of the light beacon effect I saw with my eyes. It came out centered but I couldn't tell that until I arrived home and looked at them in full scale on my PC. Sadly, my only complaint is the blurry. At low light level my camera balks a bit. Its more than likely my inexperience at taking lower lightlevel shots. The camera has a few more settings than I know how to employ.
I wish I could have previewed the shots. I might have tried alternate settings in the hopes of a perfectly clear shot.

Like I said on DA, gwil that is a great shot. Its not always
about thirds, sometimes its about where the lines lead your eyes around
the picture.
the picture can be broken down into just a few lines that draw your eye
around the picture. I can never really understand how much is
luck, skill, or natural talent...

maybe i could actually look at this "religious" image if it weren't 13000 megapixels.
