We texture artists around here have our little tutorials and occaisional pimping of our work, but I think it would be nice if we got our own forum. With 'Help Wanted' gone, there really isn't a place for texture requests anymore, and questions about texture software, like Korn's recent thread.
With HL2 coming up, the demand for public textures is going to be much less with orange-mapping as the accepted style, and a texture artist who is willing to make you private, hi-res textures is going to become increasingly hard to find.
We could help the fledgling artists of the forum improve (images of Orpheus-esque texture pack reviews) and arrogant bastards like me could show off our work, while having a forum that mappers can ask for textures in without being called newbs.
So who's with me?

from what i have been able to gather, the future of HL is in its textures too.. more so than HL did..
you got my vote.. and if the slots are all full, i can stand down to make room for someone with more to contribute.. if its necessary..
you have my vote cass.. if its a choice between us..

I dont think there are enough artists here to compensate for an entire forum tbh.

Sure there's enough. I mean, there used to be a Jumpbot forum and how many people used that?

You have my vote, between people requesting textures, and/or wanting to learn how to texture. Hell, the Snarkpit would turn into a mapping/texturing website. But then again, you cant make a map without textures now can you?

w00t! now its a sticky thread!! Snarkpit would be an excellent site for a 2d art forum..I mean, so many mappers come here and they usually say the same thing about their maps "I know the textures suck.."

IMO, waste of space is in the eye of the beholder..
if we have 5 megs worth of texture questions scattered all over the general topic, or localized within a texture artist one, its still 5 megs..
i say, if cass is willing to commit himself to it whole heartedly.. he should have it..
it is a given, HL2 will rely on textures far more than HL1 did, why not have an area dedicated to it.
plus, even tho few used the jumbot forum, it still had users, should they have been punished for being few in numbers..??

I vote for yay to a 2D art forum, I know that many of us level designers are getting into texture art more, and if there is a forum maybe more texture artists such as cass and korn would show up and frequent the place.

Well, I would have been here to comment on this idea sooner but my windows XP regestry melted down, luckly I had everything but my most recent photoshop images backed up. Had to install a second opperating system to even get to the files (in total 30 + hours of texture work source files).
Great idea for a new forumn, I know that I would use it for sure (that or continue to toss my postes in the general banter section). I think a lot of people would also to be honest, if even for simple questions like how to make an image tile properly (I'm sure we could make a tutorial on something like that though.) The key part though is in the naming, if it where named "texturing" or something along those lines then you would get all sorts of questions about how to align, rotate and god knows what else not related to actually making textures. I guess it wouldn't hurt but it would seem to fit more in the "half-life editing" section.
I can think of all sorts of questions people might have regarding textures and how to create and minipulate them, some people may just want to know how to create a simple bump map. As some of you pointed out, textures have always had the power to make or break a project (any situation that requires some degree of skill in creating and applying 2-d art). HL-2 will depend greatly on the 2-d art applied to the geometry.
So as Orpheus predicted my vote is 100% PRO
-BTW my XP regestry melted shortly after my last texture post, I didn't get to see anyones feedback on them, once I get my machine fully rebuilt I'll have to repost them (sorry to anyone who gave input)
