i was wondering: what interesting things do us Pitters do for their summer holidays? i know that is isnt quite the end of the holidays so you you can take this opportunity to say what you will do

for this summer has been the best. ive been jetsking (or waterbiking as some people say) twice (and again next week), been to a great waterbike, been to innumerable barbeques, met at least forty new people, and, a big highlight, just got back whale watching-kayaking in Friday Harbour. it was amazing! huge orcas jumping up and crashing back down mere tens of metres away and the simple good feeling that comes from doing something so... alive. sure my muscles in my shoulders and neck have one hell of a dull ache but it was so fun.
...almost as fun as jetsking though. the ones that i drove are fast. with no one willing to go on the back of mine i had one all to myself. wake jumping at forty miles per hour is an undescribable experience. these are all such new and exciting things ive never done before!
im going to a cabin at kalaloch on thursday aswell. we have huge bonfires on the beach and just have a great time (ive done it before). i meet with family members who i have never met before and others who are third cousins removed and other weird stuff.

as i said, i have been really lucky, this is my best summer ever.

so what have you fellow pitters gotten up to or will be?

I'm glad you had fun, Rival. I'm happy for you in a bitter sort of way. I didn't actually HAVE summer vacation, cause my job sucks and I have summer classes.

BUT I did get to work on my hot rod car some more. That's cool.

I'm with Rival. I've spent my Summer skateboarding for a few
hours every day, playing tons of VideoGames, going to various events,
and getting new stuff. Most noticable, a laptop. It's
sooooooo sweet :smile:

My Summer rocks, but at the end, I'm going to be angry that I didn't do
more, then I'll vow to do something useful next year... but I won't.

I'm looking for a job, I'm broke.

I didn't do anything this summer, that's the beauty of it. Going to bed
late/getting up early, playing various video games... probably the most
eventful thing was the 4th of July since my brother bought some quality
fireworks and they blew up nicely. Meh. My life's boring. :razz:

However, that doesn't mean you can answer what you do during your break in between school years.

I don't have "summer" anymore ... not since I got out of High School. Since, college (university for you non-important-euroish-people) is in trimesters and I usually take a course during the summer term, "summer" has lost all meaning past the name of a season. Except not only do I get more classes in a year, that cost more, but I get to sit in hot whether at the same time.

However, I do like that the fall term doesn't start until the end of September, sometimes October.

I spent too much time playing videogames this summer... but despite that I did manage to do a few things.

I go into New York City once or twice a month to meet friends and go to museums and play frisbee in the rain in Central Park.

I've gotten back into Fantasy novels, as I'm halfway through Return of
the King and I'm looking to check out Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time
trilogy to see if it's any good.

I saw Taking Back Sunday open for Weezer in Long Island last month, that was a highlight.

No natury stuff like you Tracer, but I'm going back north to Vermont in a month so that will change.

A few beers, a few parties.

And... Bermuda with my family in two weeks. I'm VERY excited for that.

I've done very little really...not been the best of summers if I'mt
honest. It has however been the year of my and many of my friends 21st
birthdays, which has lead to some decent parties with still more to
come :smile: I had a BBQ with about 30 odd mates in my back garden, with
what was undoubtedly the nicest weather of the year so far, which went
from 2pm until about 3am. Others have also had garden parties, or big
meals out, or mass club invasions :biggrin:

Its also been the year that my mates' band Pummel have gone through
regional finals of a battle of the bands contest, then Scottish final,
then UK final, and are now going to Germany to play in the world final,
so most of the town's young population are quite buzzing about that.
Been some great gigs :smile:

Finally, one thing to look forward to before I head back to uni is a
week on my parents' new boat come September. They were wanting to get a
motorboat abroad for a long while now, and this year they bought a 38
foot Princess in Greece. They are heading out to spend a fortnight on
it but due to uni I can only go out for the first week. Still, should
be fun, and I'm really looking forward to laznig around and learning
how to drive the thing :smile: I've linked to some pics for those
interested, but it isn't the ACTUAL boat, just another Princess 38.

Be sure to check out Venice (but go by train). Has a nice atmosphere.
As you know road = water there. We saw a police-boat, firefighter-boat
and ambulance-boat :smile:

august/september: i 've got the chance to go to a luxurious villa on an
exotic location with 20 singles for 7 weeks. They've asked me for a new
tv show, it's something like a cross-over between Temptation Island and
Big-Brother. But i'm not gonna do it cause on my casting they were too
vague about what sort of things we would have to do. Once i see it i
might participate in a second series.

So for now i'm just gonna work a bit

Well since my school goes year round, So far I've just been trying to finish this trimester. ALLLMOSSSTT DONNNEEEE WITH FINALS Hand twitches and goes limp

However I do have big summer plans. I don't have time for too big of an expedition this summer so I'm going to introduce some people to mountaineering on Washington's Mt. Olympus, a little 8k footer I think. Then hopefully get some kayaking in, in the week after that, then it's down to LA to party at USC with a friend down there for a week and back up to school in Washington in september..

I'm in a semester break right now, and I seem to be going to college more often than I used to.

I am learning to play table tennis a little better though :smile:

i assume you live down near Olympia if you are going mountaineering there but if not check out Seaquest in Friday Harbour on the San Juan island for excellent sea kayaking. (its way up north and trip from Olympia would take a long time)

I'm going to school up in Everett. So Olympus was the closest "quickie" I knew of.

Unfortunately my kayak (whitewater) is on the other side of the mountains in Eastern Washington so I'm checking flow levels for rivers in SouthEastern Washington online but it's hard to get a good sense purely by flow rates. If anyone knows of any good II - IV runs with easy access within driving distance of eastern washington I would really appreciate it.

Ive recently got back from holiday where i went to lake Geneva. I done
loads of news things around their, biggest had to be white water
rafting. That is defiantly something i wont forget in a long time. I
also climbed up a glacier at Mont blanc, was pretty tiring but the
sights were brilliant. Could see right down the valley. Also went to a
ski resort in the summer to see the difference, cool to see the runs
going through the trees occupied by cow and goats.

Ive been go-carting twice at two different places, one was in a
warehouse and the other outside. Allthough im rubish at it an never
come close to winning its great fun.

Ive also been to see 3 films at the cinema and saw Green Day/Taking
Back Sunday/Jimmy Eat World at Millten Keynes bowl, 65000 people in an
out door arena!

Other then that playing too much World of Warcraft, dam that games addicting.

I went to army camp for the first two weeks of the holidays. I ts was
awesome. The living were pretty s**t. Our rooms were small and they
still managed to cram 14 of us into it. The ex was the best thing at
camp. I brought 6 pot noodles with me(i hate the rat packs). We would
play hide and seek, yes HIDE AND SEEK. the whole point was to cam
yourself up as best you could and if you got spotted the point was to
escape capture. One guy broke his ankle cus he fell in a slit trench.
At when the adults had gone we would sit around a fire for hours,
burning s**t. I was the section 2 ic. when we went out on our operation
we had to ambush section 2 and meet up at an F.R.V. about a half a mile
away. We waited about an hour for the bastards to show. Then they came
up behind us about 70 metres on our six. We dashed for the nearest slit
trench, blasting away with our rifles. When James got the LSW down and
layed cover while we ran along the slit trench to get up on their
flanks. I was 1 and a half magazines in(i shot out 52 rounds). We saw
the scout for section two on the sand dune, our que to head back to the
FRV(final rendevous). We ran like a fat person with an all you can eat
for MacDonalds. When we arrived we dropped down on the grass, exauhsted
we took two minutes to catch our breath and then we went back to the
Harbour(were we set up base). We were soaked to the bone so we lit up a
burner and sat round a fire to dry off.

I met laods of new people, and tons of hot girls :wink: . We went to alton
towers, but i only went on like one big ride called hex, and it wasn't
all that big.

Army cadets is the best crack you can get. Everyone is friends with
everyone, its weird although its great to get away from enemys and just
have good laugh. I usually get homesick very easily, i like Inverness
too much, but there you don't notice it because you just have loads of
fun. Like everynight we would go up to the Red Rose Club down on the
shooting ranges and play pool for hours and watch big brother. Then we
would run like hell at 5 to 11 so we wouldn't have to any cleaning :smile: .

Now im back in Inverness i do nothing but get up at 1pm, go down to the
co- op, get a six pack of coke, come back sit in front of my pc all day
drinking said coke and playing css. I love the Holidays. I see it as a
great oppertunity to just do nothing and relax.

Thats what i've done so far, and i probably wont do anything else.

my time on holiday draws to an end. i go back to scotland on thursday but i got next year to look forward to. jetsking was the best i have to say. i had a great time and i saw goodbye america, its actually a pretty great place to go!

Alas we aproach the final days of the holidays. We return to school
next week. To be honest i want to go back to school, MY holidays,
barr camp, have been rather laid back. I havn't done anything but sit
on my PC, go bowling with my Dad and figure out how to use hammer and
milkshape, although i still haven't got out of the whole "Killbox
phase" yet.

I go to school in 3 and a half weeks :biggrin: I rock.

My summer is getting better. I get the basemetn room in our new
house, just got my laptop and now I'm watching Family Guy while posting
in THE LIVING ROOM!!!!1!

Man, wireless computing is the best.

I hate hollow bodies, it makes it sound awful.

one with f-holes to make it look sexayier. I'm headin down to the

Took a train trip from Helsinki to Moscow and trough Russia and
Mongolia to Beijing where I spent a week chilling out. It took 2 in
total.

Actually this was week or two before my summer holidays even began. I got the 2 weeks free from school. :biggrin:

My school doesn't start for another 6 weeks... I kinda wished it started earlier so I'd have something to do.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. I've browsed the internet
and am probably going to go with a gibson, unless something changes my
mind...

Jimmy Page had a Gibson, they've gotta be good.

You would probably want to go with a second hand Gibson. Newer don't
play as well as the ones made in the early 90's and earlier.

Negotiating how to sell my drumkit so I can buy an electric one, and also working for an architecture firm, which was fun.

As for guitars- if your spending huge amounts of money I'd try one before buying. I personally use a BC Rich Warlock platinum pro, which I put some EMG 81's in, and it's pretty damn uber now. Gunna re-wire it soon to make it better.

However, if you want a guitar like no other- build one! You'll like it far more than any others, and you can steal ideas from everywhere. Atm I'm planning my guitar- a 1 piece (for neck and body) guitar, with hollow cavities here and there, and the most wild electronics you'll ever see (apart from on a variax). Gunna finish it with a white wash, and black hardware (floyd rose, EMG's etc). Can't live without my EMG's and floyd rose bridge now :-X

I think buying a gibson is a waste of money in all honesty unless your that good- in which case, I demand you record yourself and show us your skills!

speeds with tons of distortion and effects so that it sounds like they
can actually play.

Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden, Angus Young of AC/DC, Bob Dylan, Jimi
Hendrix, Dan of the Darkness, Lindsy Lohan (haha, not really).

I desperatly need a new guitar. I play a Marshal Rocket Duluxe Fat
Strat. I plays like Charlie of Busted (thats crap by the way).

I don 't really idolize any guitarists. I plan to be a rock god and to reach that goal you must be a totally origional player.

I have been doing nothing apart from playing throught Prince of Persia Sands of Time, Warrior Within and packing razor blades so I can afford to buy stuff for college in september.

I really don't suggest getting the Ibanez that have that type of bridge hookup. You don't notice it in the picture, but they're garbage. You have to cut guitar strings to place them under a small metal block and strew them down. Very ineffective. Not to mention, the second you take a screwdriver to anything, which you will have to, you scratch all the black off. (Unless they changed it of course)

If you want a floating bridge, get one with the bottom entry stuff.

Oh and the best electric guitar ever is the Les Paul (whatever model, It really doesn't matter) They're expensive, but you can get an Epiphone one for almost half the price. (Just because it isn't weighted down by gold). They're solid guitars too. The only thing Gibson, or a Gibson company, makes that I don't like are their acoustics. They sound awful.
Personally, I have an Ibanez AW100, it sounds great. My electric is a POS, it was the first guitar I had too.

I'd love a Les Paul though. And I doubt you'd stay crappy for long if you had one.

I have a Fender subsidiary too! Squire. What a piece of s**t. Anyway, if you have a floating bridge, try making more torque in the springs (on the bottom side of the guitar body under a panel). Otherwise, it's the machine heads, they may need replacing, which is pretty inexpensive.

One thing though, if you own a guitar ... let me be more specific ... if you own an electric guitar: you need to learn how to modify it. Because, it's almost 100% guaranteed that you'll have to repair it as some point. And unless it's a truss malfunction or a broken part of the actual body of the guitar, you can do it your self for less then $20. (Can you believe people pay $15 to get their guitars re-stringed and tuned?!)
