Wow... It's a remote. All that tilting-swinging stuff sounds cool, though.

Actually, it looks to be the most dynamic controller ever.
Think about it. If can have a hook up for a joystick, which is ambidextrous, so you can move while you use the gyroscopic control for movements, attacks, or selecting. This, as one of the articles said would make playing an FPS on a console, possibly, more fun then on a computer. Aiming would be very intuitive and thus make it so you're skill level isn't based on your agility with a mouse or a joystick, but your physical body and your hand eye coordination.
On top of this recognizing all sorts of movements, it supports normal controller use (It can be flipped around and used like an old fashioned NES controller, it may even have triggers on the side too! It has one on the bottom.) Not to mention, the revolution has built in game cube controller ports. I don't know if they would be compatible, but, they even gave an example of how the bongo drums could be used in conjunction with this console.
It really gives many possibilities. The first moment I saw it I was like, "wtf!" ... kind of like when I saw the GC controller, but to a much larger degree. But ... it looks like it can be used classically and experimentally.
To be honest, adding in accuracy would bring a very large new aspect to gaming. Which seems to be the real point of the controller.
That's just my initial impression though. Obviously, I'll have to try it to see. However, some of the innovative stuff that's come from them lately ... it seems promising.

Extremely original. Though I wonder if this will help boost sales or hinder them. Don't worry there will be a 3rd party more regular controller probably.

Just like everyone else, I was skeptical at first. "What a dumb idea", I thought. Why would anyone want a TV remote for a game controller?
But I read more about it, and also about the initial playtesting. I think they have something big here. It could literally be revolutionary as far as gaming on the console is concerned. I just might purchase a console in the future if FPS can finally be ported to a console.
From what I heard, the controller is extremely sensitive. That could potentially replace keyboard/mouse combo for controlling FPS forever.
I bet my kids will think I'm crazy that I ever played shooters with a keyboard and mouse. It's just so non-intuitive.

You don't think a controller like that could work for racing? I think it could rule the world for like a motorcycle racing game, where you hold it horizontally, tilt to turn, and rotate it forward to add to the gas.

Nickel, I can honestly say, don't worry about Nintendo's ability to develop well working hardware technology. They have defined the "perfected" versions of things before. (They developed the LCD in the mid-70s as a back-burner project) If it really did suck, they wouldn't be this excited about it. It's pretty obvious that they're trying to make gaming more fun and not trying to just compete, why else would they take such a radical turn?
Cash, that'd be so awesome.
You would what I think would be really fantastic? A new star fox with this control.
Imagine if there was a joystick connector that connected directly to the controller (making it like an add on, instead of free), and you used the gyroscopic movement to move the ship left right, up down Joystick to aim ... buttons to fire, slow down, and speed up. THAT would rock. You'd have to pull up on the controller to dive, push to raise, tilt to turn. So many possibilities.
The one thing I think that would make it cooler/better would be if the D-Pad there popped up and became a small joystick (in addition to whatever link up).
Come to think of It, I don't think I've ever seen a D-Pad/Joystick. the D-Pad portion could press the four buttons while it is locked down and move like a joystick when raised ... Damn, I think I'll make one of these when I build my arcade machine!

seeing as its basically the same as a gc controller
i approve of that because that was a great controller

That controller was made up by IGN. Nintendo hasn't released any images of what the "Shell" would look like.
In fact, that's a 'digital' rendition.

I wonder if the controller is sensitive enough and they would put enough work into a game so that the character on-screen would copy your movements with the controller near exactly. If Nintendo pulls it off, sword swingin' games would rock.

thanks for the video link. I just read a couple articles and it sounds
interesting. I'm still trying to decide if this is a good idea or a
newer version of the powerglove. Admitedly I never got to try that one
out as a kid
My first and main concern with the whole concept is people getting used
to the true 3D controller. Call me a lazy bastard, but I picture
my arm getting tired holding that thing in the air for long periods of
time. And I know there are plenty of people a lot more lazy than I am.
But hey, it could be a lot of fun too.

Yeah. I don't doubt money had a lot to do with it, actually. But, what I was aiming at really, was their distaste for load times. It's the reason why they didn't use CDs for the N64 (as far as I know) ... I always thought (based on discussions and articles) that it was also because of the time increase that came with CDs at the time.
I do know at the time, Nintendo was full of themselves, however. The only thing that I think that came from that, was they changed their view (Since, it really taught them a lesson, I think). It's pretty obvious, even if you hate Nintendo, that this is a bold attempt to actually make a difference in gaming.
I also, do like the fact that there will finally be a well made 3D control mechanism. No longer controlling a 3D world with a 2D interface.
And on another Note, the Power Glove was really ... never well implemented, just because, it was the freakin' NES. 2D side-scrolling games being controlled by a primitive motion capture device. I think, now, (20 Years later?) they've got it down.

The mat that was better used with your hands? And with friends. Got some insane track record times that way.
The one peripheral I think the NES nailed was the light gun. It was pretty accurate.

I liked the super-scope. Had some pretty badass games, if I remember. I think though, the power-glove and the Virtual Boy are the worst things Nintendo has every released. (Not specifically in that order)

A good powerglove for Black and White would be cool.

Dunno 'bout you guys, but what seperates nintendo from Micro$oft and Sony is that Nintendo have always been about creating a fun environment. Most of the games are cartoony (to such an extent that I think Nintendo may encounter trouble later on) so if this new controller makes playing Monkey Ball more fun or crazy, then I'm up for it.

I'd have to agree there, myrk.
As for the cartoony style of a lot of game, I've only seen a couple non-Nintendo titles that do that, so I think it's more of a style thing. But, I don't know what would be considered "cartoony". I don't consider the Mario and Donkey Kong styles as such.
But, I just got around to finally playing Crystal Chronicles, since I bought it quite awhile ago, very pleasantly surprised. It's pretty fun, it's like a 3d-incarnation of Secret of Mana, almost. It has a pretty cartoony look, but some other Square-Enix stuff is looking like that now anyway, but it looks good. It has some really fun aspects that are just great for multi-player gaming (loading up your character with friends and all going out on an adventure together, for example)
The only downside is that to use MP mode, you need a GBA for each player with a link cable. Which doesn't bother me much, I just need to get a link cable.
Also, I know they're making another addition to this FF series on Revolution, and it seems almost implicit, based on the attack system. But then again, the entire thing that makes the game rather challenging is timing your attacks and aiming. So, I guess I'll have to wait and see.
But, it's obvious that Nintendo is trying to make gaming fun and better for the consumer, the fact that their consoles are costing less shows that to an extent. They don't pack in stuff that you'll never use (How much would the PS2 have been if it didn't come with a fire-wire port? Only a couple games use it anyway. I suppose, once you make the thing into a functioning computer you can use it for your digital camera ...)
I just wish the GC add ons were easier to find ... like the infamous dreamcast broadband ethernet card. But, finding a component cable for GC isn't that easy unless you want to import online, or something as such.

Blame it on Microsoft, God does.
