So it's fun talking to people at Raven and finding out who knows who from what and what sorts of backgrounds they have. The lead designer on Quake IV is an old friend of autolycus (of the Valve ERC/Collective fame) from back in the Quake days. Paul Richards worked as a concept artist on Elite Force 2 alongside Juan Martinez, who did some Nightwatch animation work. Caryn "Hellchick" Law, old-school Gamespy person and more recently Activision employee just started on Quake a few weeks ago (and she and I had discussed her doing voice work for Nightwatch some time ago, but that fell through).

And now, I find today that sock, of egyptian and tech texture fame, has been offered a position at Raven as well and will be joining us sometime in the future, though I don't think he'll be on Quake.

Crazy. It is a really small industry, actually. Everyone knows everyone through some quick and obscure connection, it seems.

Hehe thats quite crazy actually. You were lucky enough to know one
person at Raven in advance, but now you're drowning in acquaintances

One of your co-workers tested my Morrowind mod. I met him through the Something Awful Forums and didn't know that he worked at Raven until afterwards.

I know Iikka Ker?nen by his fame, but not personally. It would be nice to know someone in "the industry". I would have some questions about the work.

Well Finger and KungFuSquirrel, who both come to this site quite often,
do work in the industry and Adam Hawkins has done in the past. I'm sure
if you have some questions just shove them in a thread and they will
answer what they can.

Also a new fact I learned the other day - one of the modelers on quake was an animator on Tiny Toons and Animaniacs.

Now why does that make me picture a Quake-2-style easter-egg at the end with Pinky & The Brain heads on some Stroggs?

i do not keep up with who i know that works "in the business" but, many names that Andrew and a few others mention, i have met before, either through map critiques i did for them, or from other forums than snarkpit.

most do not realize that [DRS]Orpheus and Orpheus is the same person so i imagine, i remember them more than the other way around, but thats OK too cause its all good

since snarkpit's debut, i predominantly only hang out at EJOOP and here now..
