Yikes! I wish Leperous would bann those who insist on flooding this site with s**te killboxes and fy maps.

Besides, mapping is art. And those "maps" aren't art.

keep snarling guys, you may intimidate them enough to not come here peddling their wares.

but, don't get your hopes up, as long as there are stupid people allowed to play HL, there will be such maps made, and played.

I still think that an interdiction on such maps would solve the problem. Or a notice before you post "killboxes, fy maps, awp maps etc will get you persecuted by angry snarkpit members." .

Download the map, run around in it for a bit and give it the rating it
deserves. Few people are going to download poorly rated maps.

Yeah that one's about the only one that's half-decent. The bounce one is so lazy it's unbelievable. Bounce could be a great map for hl2dm, I reckon another large main area could be added to it aswell. I'm too lazy to make this, however, anyone here think they could do it well?

And petrol, by RabidMonkey, but I've a feeling thats up there without
permission. Kinda lame that the maps listed all have their author as
"HL2 mappers" - I'd be quite pissed off if my maps were up without any
mention of my name.

i will say this as slowly and with as much feeling as i can. please stop posting stuff like this, its embarrassing to know i share the world with dimwits like this.

i will be the very first to say that my maps are not in any league considered "excellent" but i have real issues with stupid people. real issues.

if i cannot encourage you to stop posting about dumb people, at least warn us within the topic title its contents is based upon such.

thanx in advance.

In all fairness, I don't get the impression that it is meant as a serious map the way most killboxes are. I think the author was just screwing around, and indeed it seems pretty entertaining to me that you can do somthing like that with the buggy so easily.

The people commenting on the other hand...

What are you talking about? That map is terrible. Yeah, it's great and all that they managed to translate the original across and it's recognizable as crossfire, but they made it larger than it originally was and did nothing to accomodate the different movement speeds and jumping distances. To make a proper crossfire map it would have to be smaller, not larger, and would need a modified layout. I can't even directly translate a simple map like my Torque, what makes anyone think they can directly port crossfire, a map that worked only because the ridiculous amount of weaponry balanced itself out and there was a layout that provided cover yet no cover. This version plays like crap and was far less entertaining than even overwatch.
Plus they didn't even put guns in the towers, and when I played last night the nuke didn't work. That's the whole point of crossfire, for crying out loud.

you are missing the point i think. no one is talking about being highly intelligent, or even smart, just competent.

i think seriously that the outlook around here will only escalate. killbox made with HL2's engine would be like adding a blower to your riding mower.
bottom line, i have no more or less respect for anyone who builds or plays them, than they do for themselves.

All good points yak, all I meant was that it isn't 100% complete doom and gloom on the new maps front. At least the guy who made that map seems to have been trying to make it decent, even if he failed. The other maps, the authors weren't even trying to make something good.

Orph, I wasn't meaning for this topic to become another one of your lovely debates  I was bored, and happened to find this stuff thanks to planethalflife.com... They listed all the crap ones in their News for God's sake!

Hopefully in time we can fill that page with all our lovely maps, eh?

Yeah, I'm sure that's up there without permission considering I talked to him 2 days ago and he said it was maybe half done. Thanks for pointing that out, ReNo, Rabid's sent them an "angreh letter." Sucks that he had to, though.

crossfire2 map'...
These remakes deserve to be made by professionals, like dario, not by
unprofessional mappers. Im not saying that mappers in general are bad,
I would rather have those fun maps be remade by the original
people....like dario as I said above. Also what Id like to see in the
future:

Assult for CS

Bounce2

Stalkyard2

Datacore2

And now I curse that I don't have the SDK. I wonder why valve didn't have the decency to add it to the darn DVD. Is there any other way if getting the SDK than through STEAM?

It obviously wasn't complete by the time they had to give the game to their publisher.
