Has anyone else noticed that jumping ability seems diminished in a HL2 multiplayer game? I don't know if it's just me, but I have to crouch-jump a lot more often in HL2DM.

Why is that? Is it because I picked an Asian-looking character?

wtf... that borders on distasteful humor.

The jumping does feel a little weaker, but you also get a cool sprint and built in strafe-jumping moves, so I guess it balances out somewhat. I see alot of people complaining but it doesn't bother me much, although I am quite used to crouch jumping.

Yeah me too, im just accustomed to hitting space-ctr all in one motion, or even ctr-space for long jumps (which I miss)

With gravity gun jumping, I don't think that this is true at all.
Jumping to about three times Gordon's height can be acheived with about 10
damage if done right, and any maps with vertical fighting is sure to
have plenty of props.

yeah but in tfc us medics got around that old trouble with concs = P ,
Why else would my name be Parakeet. Also ive gravity jumped all the time
3 times your height "no damage ,if you land on the physics object right

I never said that you couldn't jump higher without damage, but that's
the best consistent jump I can get in a deathmatch situation.

I was a bit of a conc jumper myself, I also liked being a TFC medic.

Coming from HL1 and being a Tau freak, Gravity jumping just doesn't quite satisfy me. I have done it on occasion, but unless I can figure out how to consistently do it, I almost don't even care. I'm all about radiator hording, and GGgrenade tossing.

I feel that I should own the rights on all Asian jokes because I am one. It's not politically incorrect for a member of an ethnicity to make fun of his own people.
but you also get a cool sprint...
But you have that in the SP game also!

In addition, I notice that footsteps sound different in DM too. Why would Valve make all these modifications? Were there two different coding teams that came up with SP and DM games?

Definately - I always thought being able to fit in a quick well timed
crouch jump to a new location/important ammo in the heat of a battle, a
skill to master.

You'll notice the good players have the manouver in the sub conscious playing routines, I'd wager.

About the Asian thing, it IS acceptable to make fun of your race when
people know. However, on the internet, you risk offending people
who don't have a clue what race you may be. You'd be best off not doing it at all.

Anyway, I agree that jumping takes a bit of skill now. Once you
play for a little while, you can probably know just when you need to
couch-jump and you would be able to get off a quick gravity gun jump if
need be.

I also support unpopular moves like bunnyhopping. It takes skill to pull off stuff like that, despite the complaints.

Bunny hopping in HL2DM seems quite inconsistant - its certainly
managable, often to extremely high speed and effective uses, but hard
to get working every time. I don't mean this in a skill based way
either, as despite using wha I would think to be the same techniques
every time, I don't find it working perfectly. I have found that if you
brush off physics objects such as cars while bunny hopping, it can
occasionally launch you forwards with a whole lot of speed

You master gamer you. I don't even have any clue on how to bunnyhop, or what it is.

The HL2 player feels heavier to me when jumping or falling. Crouch
jumping can get you pretty far, but I'm in the same catagory as
Finger when it comes to missing the tau and longjump. I also miss
the rocket jumping from Quake 1, but that's something else.

I bet the HL2 Gordan could probably make the jump from the crates to
the two batteries in Stalkyard just as well as the HL1 Gordan can.

What kind of Asian are you? I am guessing Japanese-american. Right?

Yeah, what's bunny-hopping?

And I think that ppl can make fun of thier own type of ppl. Except Blacks, they can make fun of ANYONE it seems. (and they normally do!)

What's grav jumping, precious?

PS TO MOUSE: It's spelled "Gordon"

Thanks, yeah, I always mess that up when I change models in Half-Life
DM. It took me till I was in high school to figure out that
Michael had the a before the e and that's my dad's middle name.

Bunny hopping, though I've never been too great at it, is when you
strafe jump forward and gradually your speed increases. There are
scripts that people use to do this in HL1 that can make them fly across
a room, it's really pretty incredible to see. I can do it
manually to an extent and with HL2 being so slow I'm doing it much more.

I make fun of everyone. Particularily myself.

Gravity-jumping is when you stand on a physics object and shoot the
G-Gun's primary fire down while jumping. It's similar to
rocket/tau jumping, but I find it less consistent, possibly because I
am terrible at doing it. In DM_casual, you can use the radiator
to grav-jump to the top of one of the buildings where there is an xbow
and some armor. Sometimes I get it on the first try, sometimes it
takes me 20 tries.

You know what they say: white men can't jump. That's why we use the Grav-Gun in basketball.

I've noticed I feel a lot heavier in HL2 than in HL1. Bunnyhopping in HL2 is great if you do it manually but if you use a script I'd call it cheating. Cheaters should be taken out and shot.
