Several people have inquired about my mystery map. truth be told, i haven't placed the 1st brush yet. I want to wait till i build my next PC. one that will play HL2 with all the bells and whistles. (sometime this month if all goes well  )

so far, only KFS has seen these pics. but after the inquiries.. shrugs

seriously though, i think it can be made, but i also feel it will be one of those things only a major machine will play.

this map if complete will only be unique, i do not expect it to be anything other than that. just something, no one has made thus far.

if you are still curious. click the links i will provide.

i caution you however, the screens are somewhat large, but they have the specs i need for the 1:1 scale.

top
side

whether i succeed or not, just look at the pictures. my being foolish enough to try such a map, is my own problem

enjoy.

IT CANNOT BE DONE! :sailor: No...really. I would love to see a realistic completed boat. I remember a few from HL1DM...none of which were all that.....cool or realistic. The blueprints look very nice and looking forward to seeing more of it as it develops!

CoD features a boat deathmatch level. I think Source can handle it just
as well as the CoD engine. Good luck with this one, as it promises to
be quite some work to get right...

There's almost no way you can create a good DM map on a naval vessel. There's going to be a serious lack of connectivity and by default only two real direction you can go after spawning: towards the bow or the stern. Now if you had a ship on a drydock with the surrounding buildings it would be possible. Who knows you just might prove me wrong and pull it off

i don't wanna make it to play, that would ruin the creation. i wanna see if it can be made at all.

but i also am only interested in the above decks portion. whats in the hull is not important.

still, if you think about it, they have been using naval ships of one sort or another throughout history to "battle". who's to say you couldn't frag on a ship?

LOL.. seriously folks, i only wanna make it, i think that will be about as hard as... creating the world in 7 days, and some say thats been done already.

flf_fox comes to mind. with that exeption that gameplay is mostly in-decks there (it has an ok flow too). Its gonna take you a lot of time if you want to really get all the details as on those pics.. gl with that:)

You know Orph, if you used a WW2 battle cruiser that would make an
awesome DOD: Source map. I've thought about doing something like this
before, but the fact that you would need hundreds of custom textures
put me off. Best of luck with it. I will be seriously impressed if you
could pull this off, and equally so if you give it a go.

whissstttttlllesssssssssssssss

Has potential indeed! I'm worried about getting the looks right though -- have you done any HL2 mapping? The new engine is based on models, not brushes :heee:

Consider contacting Azelito about this, since he seems to be the ub33r modeler around here. If HL2 doesn't come with the stuff you need, he may be able to make you something

I would love to see this done; even if it has sucky gameplay, if it looked good i would love it.

Only thing that seems a barrier in making this is the fact that you will need to learn to model if you plan on making this thing detailed at all... also theres no internal plan, or do you have pictures or something of the inside?

i think i know a thing about battleships bud especially the insides (below decks for you land lubbers)... :heee: ), and i personally would love to assist in any way i could....i thought about doing a submarine, styled in the old ww2 uss grayback fashion.....never quite got around to it w/ the hl1 setup.....personally, i think it would be great....if you had a mind to do something like the old uss okinawa, lph3, it had a huge upper and lower hanger bay setup, which would be sweet for a fragfest....

Doc B... :dodgy:

A ship that large should have enough floor space to build some decent DM gameplay on. You'd have to sacrifice so realism when building the tower to either side, and I'd avoid putting anything on the extreme ends of the ship at all, but I think it could be done, and quite fun too.

I think if you could not only build the ship, but make it run like a
real ship. If you could get the whole 'map' to move with the
waves... and make water with waves. This could be quite a intence
map.

As for the ship not working well as a DM map, I think it would work
well. Everyone would start in the bottom and work their way
up to the bridge and crows nest.

What would be even more insane would be to set the ship in live action, guns shooting, enemy fire screaming over head.

makes me want to try my hand at it!

Personally, I don't care how well it would play because it's such a cool idea to do with the HL2 engine. Best of luck with it.

It would be cool if the cannons go off once in a while and shook the boat
